Joke characters...
As a fun side project i am now occasionally creating and playing toons who are solely for funny or annoying rp. I currently have 2 such toons: a recreation of Tiax from BG1, and a recreation of the grim reaper. So far both have been fun to rp and i have been getting positive feedback from most who interact with them. That said i am always interested in rp them more effectively so rp advice would be quite welcome. More feedback on my rp of them would also be welcome as well.

Agathion Benedictus: Holy Priest. Retired for now.
Tiax Rules-All: Gnomish madman. Retired permanently.
Exordius Vrass: Cleric/Mage. Currently active.

Randall started off as an attempt to joke funny/annoying RP, but I enjoyed it so much that after a few weeks I've put some more depth in it.Steve wrote:Not funny!V'rass wrote:... or annoying rp.

Re: Joke characters...
I occasionally play a character named "Josey Puddles" who is a common thug when he isn't drunk. I play him occasionally for some change of rp and to get some laughs. He's always chasing tail so I'm sure some female characters have had the misfortune of meeting him.
I think characters like this are a fun change for me as a player. I get to play out situations and an RP style that I don't get to do with my main characters. I'm perfectly happy to perma kill him at any time, he's an expendable background character that would appear in some bar scene in a movie or book.
It's fun playing a character that is obviously not a main character in any story.

Comedy should always be present (see my sig).

Re: Joke characters...
I think all of my characters have a lot of humor behind them, despite them being serious RP characters too. Between Myhun and Wirg, Wirg is my favourite to RP as. I really enjoy speaking in an Orc accent, which comes off as very comical.
"I am Smart. I know lots of things. You are dumb."
translates to;
"Me am smartee pantz. Me knuw lutz uf tings. Lat am dumhed."

Wirg to Pug: "Iz lat dun?"
Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

You wanted feedback, so here's mine: remove the "please don't PvP" from your Examine. When my PC interacted with Tiax, she treated him in an IC manner. I imagine other PCs will do the same, but other PCs might not respond well to Tiax. Stating in the Examine that "this is a joke character so please don't PvP" isn't needed. Let others decide for themselves whether or not they want to treat Tiax as a loon or as a serious threat, and be prepared for those consequences.

My interest in silly characters is short lived. They're funny for a few hours... then they're not funny anymore and they have a tendency to screw up serious RP just because they can. They simply have no depth.

I don't agree with this. As long as the characters have a 'real' feel to them.Maximvs wrote:My interest in silly characters is short lived. Re: Joke characters...
Having a real feel to them would probably disqualify from being a joke.

Re: Joke characters...
Not really, a character can exist for the laugh factor, like the town's drunk, or the town's idiot, and still have a realistic feel to it.

Re: Joke characters...
I usually put something to the effect of "if you want to pvp this character, just assume you won and we'll RP it from there." It avoids the whole power build 1337 pvp epeen flexing and just moves past it to when the other person beat me. Amazing how much less pvp happens when the combat is taken out and it just goes right to the post pvp RP.TarnishedSoul wrote:You wanted feedback, so here's mine: remove the "please don't PvP" from your Examine.
