Apply to be a DM here

Unread post by DM Chant »

Attention, good people of Baldur's Gate . . .

The DM team would like to announce that we will now be accepting DM applications via continuous intake. This means that we will be moving away from dedicated recruitment periods and will accept, evaluate, and rule on DM applications as they come to us. As such, please feel free to review our expectations and send in a DM application whenever you would like! (Be sure to PM this to the DM Team forum group with the subject line DM Application.)

DM expectations:
  • Time commitment. Incoming DMs should be prepared to spend a reasonable amount of time IG as a DM. There are periodic activity audits where hours spent DMing on the client are quantified. This is a measure that may be used to determine a given DM's activity level, and it may also be used to determine if a DM is active enough to remain on the team. Communication and participation in discussions are also important to us. It is not mandatory or expected for a DM to spend all of their time logged in BG as a DM. We are happy to accept part-timers. Balance and keeping in touch with the player community is important.
  • Willingness to learn. Incoming DMs should be prepared to read all the information (including but not limited to guidelines, rules, how-tos, common policy, and procedure) provided by HDMs or admins. Willingness to do this, as well as willingness to receive guidance from senior DMs, ask questions, and undergo training, are part of the role.
  • Good conduct. Incoming DMs should be prepared to exercise patience and courtesy with fellow staff members of BG:TSCC but most especially with the player base, even those you may have had negative experiences with as a player. DMs are expected to set an ongoing good example.

I only do player requests if a player requests me specifically for a request. Otherwise I run my own written stories. <3

Removed the part in this spoiler:
Hidden: show
Leadership Hiatus. Incoming DMs who are new to the team will be asked to yield leadership of any guilds they currently lead during their tenure as ADM. However, Veteran returning DMs and long-time players of guild leaders moving to ADM status will be evaluated for retention of their current guild leadership on a case-by-case basis when needed. If leadership of a guild is retained, it is expected that DM's do not DM for their own guilds.
What this means is that we no longer will require new ADMs to relinquish their guild leadership roles. That said, we will continue to consider it as part of an application process, and if a guild leader is accepted, they will of course be (as would be the case either way) disallowed from running events for their own guild.

The reason the rule was in place was not just the potential for favouritism, or the optics of it. It was also, and perhaps indeed more, because of the split attention. Something we often take into consideration when weighing for and against for a new ADM is their playerside activity. Will making them a DM add or subtract from the overall RP of the server? Some players are fantastic fascilitators of RP, and those on the DM team who have been around for a while have seen some of those players become DMs and struggle to do the same from that side, and so often end up leaving relatively soon, to instead continue playerside.

The reason we are now lifting it is because it doesn't really make sense. Whatever reason we had for having the requirement in the first place: Being a leader of a guild or just a member doesn't make a difference.

With all that said, we still accept running applications and hope to see some more of them soon!

Reminder: We are always looking for more DMs! If you are wondering what it entails, and whether or not you should apply, feel free to talk with one (or several) of us about it!
