I was going to say "I see what you did there" but then I checked and actually most water spells aren't Evocation school. :(

Also, another excellent job, WXM. ...Does this mean you're taking commissions again? :D

Thank you Tsid! <3 <3

Here's a moody and contemplative Oth! Thought it'd be fun to cast him under a different light.

Michael Dunn, The Hanged Man
https://www.biddytarot.com/tarot-card-m ... anged-man/

I struggled with this card for over two years! A first attempt where I had the character hanging upside down from over some gallows languished in concept form for a year before I finally gave up and went back to the drawing board. Then came months of trying to make an upside down reflection of the character in water on the ground work. Finally, I decided because this entire series has really been about featuring characters through a tarot format, I would abandon trying to get the character to be upside down in the card - at least, in the classic sort of way, and find something that would represent the themes of the card while still leaving room for a cohesive portrait.

The Hanged Man in its upright form represents pause, surrender, letting go, martyrdom, and new perspectives. In its reversed form, it represents indecision, delay and resistance. In my view, Michael Dunn embodies some of the elements of each position. He has seemed to be a character struggling against himself, wanting to do the right thing but perhaps not always achieving it and it makes interacting with him frustrating yet relatable.

The card I finally ended up with depicts Michael Dunn and an unidentified person falling from some unseen height. The perspective of the card is unique in that it's the only card I've done where we're looking up at the main character (incidentally and in somewhat of a happy accident, flipping the card into its reversed position makes it look like someone is throwing Michael Dunn a lifeline and he's chosen to let go instead). Whether he has thrown himself over the edge of a cliff to save a friend, to steal an enemy's lifeline, or simply to fall is uncertain, but Michael Dunn has always fascinated me as a character who makes compelling choices and I like that I could see him doing any of those things.

This is the last arcana I was missing from the major arcana! This has been a project that has spanned over 4 years from when I first started it and it is supremely gratifying to have come to its conclusion. I definitely learned a lot with each card, whether it was improving my brushwork, understanding values, color theory, and composition - for other artists, if you've never done them before I definitely encourage you to try a few cards yourself.
