Gorgeous Map of the Sword Coast

Unread post by Maecius » Tue Apr 30, 2019 1:54 pm

So I had this come up on my news feed (even Google knows I'm into BG, I guess), and although it's not from someone within our own little community, I thought it was worth sharing:

If I read the description right, it's apparently in this book, too, which I have to go buy now, sigh: https://www.dmsguild.com/m/product/269398

It's not so much a map of the sword coast as a map of the game area from Baldur's Gate video game. Look closely and you can see things like "Dryad Falls" and "Gnoll Stronghold" and even "Durlag's Tower" from Tales of the Sword Coast. So while quite beautiful, it should be called out that it is beautification of a map from the original video game as opposed to a 'from scratch' work...or at least seems so.

It's awesome! I highly recommend checking out the link as it has a high resolution version where you can really look at all the details.

It seems rather scaled down compared to other official maps of the Sword Coast.

It's as Chad have said. It's more of a remake of the BG 1 world map. Fantastically done as well.

I'm a sucker for great image props. That... is ... amazing! Definitely print and frame worthy.

Question, I was looking at the map, and then in-game. In-game our bridge is called "Wyrms Crossing," but on the map it's "Wyvern's Crossing." Is our in-game area incorrect?

It is Wyrm's crossing in both Baldur's Gate Wiki and in an official WotC product "Murder in Baldur's Gate", so I assume the mapmaker had made a mistake there.

On a perhaps unrelated note, have anyone actually tried the module this artwork is from? If so what's your opinion of it?
