Mendel
(El Clandestino)

Image
First Name: Mendel

Appearance:
Race: Wood Elf
Age: 120
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 70 kg
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dark Brown

Personality Profile:
General Health: In good health, trains regularly
Deity: Rillfane Rallathil
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Profession: Caravan escort, Tracker
Base Class & Proposed Development: Ranger
Habits/Hobbies: Hunting, enjoys good wine and travelling. Collects weapons - mainly longswords
Languages: Common, Elven, Sylvan
Weapon of Choice: Longsword, Longbow

Background:
Mendel grew up in a small elven village in High Forest. From small age he was trained in the ways of the ranger and as many other wood elves he is strong and agile. He protects the woodlands, enjoys living in nature, in small villages and despises large stone structures especially within the forests. Humble and patient, listens to other peoples views and advice but he is not known to take part in long conversations.

As many other Sylvan elves he ignores the Retreat and stayed behind to protect the elven villages and the forests. He is likely to socialise with other races, especially humans and dwarfs. He hates Orcs as he considers them responsible for the collapse of Eaerlann. It is difficult for him to trust a half-orc.

Although a ranger, what defines him is not so much the bond with nature but rather the attraction to the unknown and the untamed. That is the reason behind him leaving the village he grew up in High Forest and travel. He stayed some time in every place he visited and got by, mainly by escorting merchants and help in tracking missing persons.

One day, he arrived at the Sword Coast, as an escort to a merchant caravan. It was in the town of Nashkel where he met Laisren, the man who would have a huge impact on his life. Laisren taught him what it is to fight for a reason, his duties as a Tel'Quessir and reminded him how it feels to have a home, Doron Amar in that case. Unfortunately circumstances made it such (Subject: En Dharasha Everae RP thread), that they both along with their friends, were again on the road looking for a place in the North where they can have their new home.

In combat, he relies on evasive hit-and-run tactics but since his arrival at the Sword Coast he was trained by his mentor Laisren in more organized forms of fighting. Those who have fought with him know that Mendel is eager to rush in a battle, not always considering the consequences.

Becase of his spontaneous character and his difficulty in socializing, Mendel has been called many names by others. Some call him weirdo and arrogant, while some go even further and call him sociopath. These people don’t really know him and so it is easy for him to just ignore them.

Goals:
- Join an Elven community and make himself useful
- Help En Dharasha Everae establish their new home.
- Lead En Dharasha Everae and help provide a safe haven for all Tel'Quessir. Try to balance the traditional ways of the native wood elves, with the arcane magic, so that eveyone can live together in harmony
- Be an active member of the Elder Circle and help uphold natures interests
- Be a good mate and companion to Nai and protect her from any danger
- Help promote the Harpers' interests in the region. Having been a Harper agent for years, only recently he wears his pin in public.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Him drinking a bit too much sometimes puts him in weird situations

The Purge
Chapter 1 - The beginning
Hidden: show
Nothing that day could prepare them for what was about to happen. It all started when Ivan noticed that the Unicorn has disappeared from the Grove. He notified the others by leaving a message inside the Grove. The druids and rangers of the Elder Circle did their best to try to track the missing Unicorn, but with no results. Nai told the group that one of the birds, a crow, did see the Unicorn eating on a patch of clover before raising it's head quickly and looking about before vanishing after the shiny thing on his head started to glow. Upon hearing this, they decided to rest for the night and continue the search in the morning. All members of the Elder Circle had a strange dream that night.
DM Nilbog wrote:Through the treetops, as well as the darkness, the cold drizzle makes its way to you, it seems to simply slide under your damp clothing, making you both cold and wet. Your breath becomes a fine mist once it leaves your mouth, as if even the weather is against you this cold night. As the hours pass, the trees bend and twist towards you, gnarled branches grabbing at your shoulders. The wind whistles through the forest, a low moan, the sounds of agony. Strange noises snake their way to your ears, every few moments you give a startled glance in one direction or another, only to find nothing but the ever present darkness. The small path seems to vanish from under your feet for several minutes before returning. A pair of sinister red eyes greet you from the darkness in front, accompanied by a bestial growl. The scene comes into view and the horror of what has happened wakes you from the slumber but not before the image of what you have seen burns itself into you.
Image
They were all unsettled by that dream and when they all met at the Grove the next day, they tried to make sense of it.
Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Unicorn
Hidden: show
Lambe, Ivan and Alyndra, stayed inside the Grove, trying to make sense of the situation. Their discussions were interrupted by one of the animals, a rat which died from died of poisoning from a Manticore's quills. Then a pixie appeared telling them to go by the river. Mendel joined them as well and along the way they came upon powerful and hostile werewolves. Once they fought the werewolves away, they came upon an awful sight. The Unicorn was laying on a pool of blood, brutally slain. Not believing their eyes the group went closer and inspected the scene.
Image
Their grief was shortly interrupted by a Shadow druid which appeared to them. She informed the group that they were successful since one of the three protectors - the Unicorn - was slain and that the "Purge" has begun. Upon further questioning by the group, the Shadow Druid revealed that "The Purge" was a process in which the lands will become as they were long time ago, destroying everything in the process.

"What once was, will be again." she kept telling the group.

Before disappearing, she also revealed that a powerful beast was summoned to aid the Shadow Druids in that process. It was that beast that killed the Unicorn, cut off his powerful horn and jumped in the river where it disappeared. With much anger and sadness from the overwhelming news, they carried the Unicorns body, where it was buried inside the Grove.
Image
They knew who their enemy was - the Shadow Druids and that Beast. Now they needed to find more, so that they can put a stop in it.
Chapter 3 - More information and a new ally
Hidden: show
Everyone reacted in their unique way, upon hearing the dire news. Some grieved and prayed, others wanted to revenge the Unicorns death by hunting the Shadow Druids and others went out seeking for more information. While inside the Cloakwood, Tyn questioned a male Shadow Druid and he revealed that an Ancient Force, meaning the Beast, would run over the lands until the things are as the once were. He also blamed the Elder Circle for the Black Orc war and the results it had on the Sharpteeth Forest. He also said that the Elder Circle was also to blame for the killing of the lizards and the stealing of their eggs. In his desire for revenge Tyn attacked the Druid and killed it. While Tyn was searching the body for other evidence he was struck down. Tyn survived to tell his story, only because Ivan, Mendel and Fhaeo happened to be around and save him.

The Elder Circle did not take all those accusations lightly. They were worried and since there was nothing they could do about the Black Orc war they decided to try and do something about the lizardfolk. So they next day they went to find the lizardfolk King and discuss. High ranger Celduil lead the group there and the Lizard King introduced himself as Varak. Ivan and Nai handled the negotiations and they got much information from Varak.

In short they found that:
- The Beast name is Kazgoroth
- It seems to be either an aspect of Malar, or somehow related to him.
- He is very ancient, we were told he came before the "furs" came to this world.
- He was banished or killed on the "moon" islands, which are believe to be Moonshae Isles, several years ago.
-The shadow druids took his tooth from the lizardfolk temple to raise him.
-He is known to take many forms, one of them being a "tyrannosaur" that could run on all fours, had acidic saliva and red eyes.
-The chieftain "Varak" told us to ask the golden ash tree of Sharp Teeth Woods, which is the tree inside of our grove, as it may know more.

In addition Varak had another proposition. He offered his clans help in bringing down the beast, if the Elder Circle managed to put a stop to the stealing of the lizards eggs. The group agreed to his terms and told him to meet again when this problem has been dealt with.

Chapter 4 - The Shadow Cook
Hidden: show
After the meeting with Varak was over, the Elder Circle's focus shifted in finding out what was going on with the eggs that were taken by the cook. High Ranger Celduil, led the operations in keeping a close eye to the cook. Ivan, Tyn and him were rotating swifts till they had an opportunity to act upon. Celdui suggested to Ivan to take the shape of a mouse and sneak into the locked room while the cook was away. A cloaked man teleported into the room and saw through Ivan's shaping. Tyn who was outside of the door was let in. The man said he thought the Wild Hunt would keep the Elder Circle busy while he was using the eggs for his purpose. The man attacked them using arcane magic, but was quickly put down by the groups efforts. The cook, who heard the noises came into the room and run to notify the guards. The group reacted quickly and carrying the man they went up to the roof where they made their escape.

They took the man to Varak and they questioned him. He revealed to them the following:
- The cook is a member of the Shadow Circle.
- They use the eggs to divide the lizards to get them to do what they want.
- The eggs are stored in tunnels below Cloakwood, reachable by "the roots", which may mean plant travel.
- The Wild Hunt was meant as a distraction.

In his anger Varak killed the man, so they were not able to question him any further. Varak then asked for the cook to be brought to him as well.

While Nai, Mendel, Lambe, Alyndra and couple of others were fighting the Shadow Druids in the Cloakwood forest and keeping them busy, Celduil found a chance to capture the Cook, while he was taking a break to smoke. He was teleported back to grove where he was questioned. The cook was questioned and revealed to Celduil that he was a shadow druid, working to promote the beast Kazgoroth in their quest to remove human influence on the land. He did not know the location of the lizardman eggs, rather he was a middle-man or pawn which was used to collect the eggs before meeting another secretly in his room which would teleport the eggs out. While the cook was resting the Golden Ash Treant awoke in the Grove, telling Celduil of the coming threat and confirming the man was tainted. Apparently the beast is heading towards the Grove and means to kill the Treant, which was another protector.

Ivan and Tyn, helped Celduil to bring the cook to Varak. The Traveled by plant there and delivered to him. Varak was very pleased for the Elder Circle's actions in restoring the balance pronounced them honorary members of his Clan. He also informed that they will join in the war against the Shadow Druids and the Beast.

Later that day, all Druids and rangers met again inside the Grove to discuss the next steps. It was decided to travel to the Moonshae Islands and find out how to vanquish the beast. If only they knew, that this was the last meeting to be held inside the sacred Grove....
Chapter 5 - The destruction of the Grove
Hidden: show
Nai, Ivan, Celduil, Lambe.... They were all gathered in the Grove. They all sensed that something is not right. Suddenly a strong force of Shadow Druids lead by Kazgoroth attack the Grove and its Keepers, with only purpose to destroy everything. They set the Grove on fire and then begun to attack the animals and and the members of the Elder Circle. Again the group reacted quickly, with the rangers and most of the druids holding the enemy just enough, so that Nai could make a path in her water elemental form and lead the animals to safety. Once the animals were safe, they all tried to stop the Shadow Druids. They all fall their hearts out and gave everything they got to protect the sacred Grove. They were overwhelmed though, and one after another fell to the enemy. Celduil, in a moment of clarity, sensing that they would all die, he hid and slowly carried every fallen outside the Grove where they were all treated. Soon Mendel joined them, only to see the destruction that has been done. Luckily enough, the Grove's magical wards, prevented the fire from spreading to the forest.

It was not over yet. A shadow druid appeared and taunted the group. Having lost everything and their spirits low, they though nothing other than revenge. They attacked the Shadow Druid with everything they got left, but again, Kazgaroth appeared with more Shadow Druids and killed them. Mendel, the last one standing, saw the bodies laying down and he sensed that he was about to meet the same end. He didn't run, but kept on fighting and his last thought was that they had failed, that this was the end...

They all gained consciousness at a nearby hill, close to Gullykin. A elven figure was standing above them, treating their wounds. He told them he was one of the Evereskan rangers of Doron Amar. Trying to figure what has happened they asked the ranger what has happened. He replied, that he saw the fight from far away and came to their aid. He also informed them that he is going to inform Doron Amar of what has happened and track Kazgaroth and the Shadow Druids. They set camp on the hill and rested in order to regain their strength, not believing their luck. As they found the next day though, luck has nothing to do with why they were all alive. Alyndra informed them that the ranger hasn't informed Doron Amar. In fact no ranger with his description was there. Putting their thoughts together they reached to the same conclusion. Kazgaroth shaped into an elven ranger and saved them for whatever sadistic reason. He tasted their blood and then brought them back to life, so that they can feel the pain of defeat and loss...
Chapter 6 - The Aftermath
Hidden: show
Having recovered from their wounds, the group set camp in the Sharpteeth forest, on a hill near Gullykin. The recent losses has taken its toll on everyone especially Nai, who begun to revert back to her animalistic nature. They were all glad to be alive and gathered strength from each other, since there were many things to be done and the war was far from over. Two things were of the utmost importance. The first was to find more information about Kazgoroth on the Moonshae Islands and second locating their guardian, Golden Ash from the destroyed grove. Since they were in no condition to travel to the Moonshae Island, it was decided to try and locate their guardian.

With no other leads the Druids begun to commune with nature and after a while a Treant appeared. It was a survivor of the Black Orc war and was nearby resting and healing. It informed the group that the Golden Ash might be with its sister, a Sacred Tree located in the Lizard men cave. They cave is known to many of the rangers and is under a waterfall in the Cloudpeak Mountains. The group thanked the Treant for his help and without loosing any more time they traveled by plant, nearby the cave.

Once there, they were confronted by a lizard man guard. It took some time to convince him of their good intentions but in the end he believed them, so there was no need for another fight. The group learned that the Golden Ash had been harmed from the wounds of the conflagration and was hybernating now. It has left some seeds though, which have been given to Alyndra for safekeeping and to be planted to the location of the new Grove.

They returned to their camp where the discussed about recent happening. They all realized that they might have lost their home but there is much more they could do to restore the Balance...

Chapter 7 -Moonshae islands
Hidden: show
Members of the Elder Circle were gathered at their camp in Sharpteeth Forest, on a hill near Gullykin. Celduil, Tyn and Ivan have gathered enough information about the Moonshae Islands and how to get there. It was decided that the best way was to Travel by Plant. Just before they were about to depart, a previous Arch Druid of the Elder Circle made his appearance. The Druid, whose name is Uriel Varenal, introduced himself and was willing to help with the current threat.

Once they arrived they were greeted by a druid. One he was informed about the group's purpose and good intentions, the druid led them to the High King.
Image
The King was surprised to learn that Kazgoroth has resurfaced. The group explained to the King that the Shadow Druids managed to resurrect him from a tooth, that had in their possesion. Troubled by the news the King gave them more information about Kazgaroth. It has been raiding the islands for generations, being controlled by Bhaal or Malar - who fight over it's control. Usually Kazgoroth has a source of corruption, attacks the 3 Guardians of the land. Till now he was thwarted every time, though the tolls on land and population are many. The king was able defeat Kasgoroth with his sword.
Image

Image
Thanking the King for his crucial information, the group travelled back to their camp were they discussed their recent findings. It was clear that their Unicorn was the first and the Golden Ash the second guardian. They couldnt figure who the third guardian was, but had enough possibilities.

- Tthe lizardmen of the Cloudpeak Mountains were the Golden Ash went to heal
- The lizardmen of the Cloakwood
- One of the Elder Circle, maybe Alyndra herself
- the seeds she is carrying among other possibilities.

It was clear to them what they have to do next. Identify and protect the 3rd guardian at any cost and locate the source of corruption and neutralize it.
Chapter 8 -Corruption in the Cloakwood
Hidden: show
Still having not identified the 3rd guardian, the Elder Circle decided to locate the source of the corruption. Celduil, had already sent a letter to the Elder Circles allies, informing them about the situation they are in and asking for help. Sir Seth and Lady Gina of the OSR answered the request and join the group for this mission. After a lengthy discussion it was assumed that the corruption would be located somewhere in the Cloakwood. With their only clues being that there should be a water source near the corruption and there should be roots from trees above, the group begun their search, led by the rangers.
Image
While they were approaching FAI Lambe, combined all the clues with his excellent knowledge of the area and he proposed to check the Cave North of FAI first. Lambe led the way, while the rest followed, some of them reluctantly. As they moved deeper into the caves, they could all sense that this location made perfect sense. Once they located the underground river they search more intensively. Uriel's keen senses noticed something at the bottom of the river. He took the shape of a water elemental and dived into the river to inspect it closer. It was a sack, chained on a large rock with something inside. While trying to bring the sack to the surface, its contents were released and a shadow Dragon was formed which attacked the group. They fought against it and with the help of Sir Sseth and Gina they were victorious slaying the Shadow Dragon. Some residue was left behind, which Tyn burned while in a fire elemental form.
Image
The source of the corruption was located and cleansed with the help of some OSR members. They were getting closer but still they had a long way to go since they couldn't identify the 3rd guardian for certain. For that reason Celduil, Lambe, Ivan, Nai and Mendel gathered outside FAI and discussed about where they stood regarding Kazgoroth. The talked about every possibility of who the Guardian was. In case they didn't manage to identify the third guardian in time, the group had devised a plan of how to keep him or her safe, even if they didn't know who that is. This plan is a last resort and only to be used if anything else fails.

Once the small gathering was over, everyone went their own way but they were all thinking about the same thing. Who this 3rd guardian is... They all knew, time was running out
Chapter 9 -Final Battle
Hidden: show
Everything seemed ready. They all spent a number of days preparing for the final battle. The lizard King with his tribe, having repelled the first wave of Shadow Druids, were waiting for the Elder Circle, at the entrance of a cave system with many tunnels. Together they would stand against Kasgoroth and the Shadow Druids. Amongst them were Sir Seth Sieger and Robin Silver.

Image

The King lead the way, followed by the Nai, Ivan and Uriel in their Dragon shape. Celduil, Lambe, Mendel, Alyndra, Seth and Robin followed right behind them. Slowly they cleared the area of the Shadow Druids presence. The Shadow Druids proved to be a strong opponent and in their ranks there were wizards, assassins, crossbow snipers and a Shadow Dragon. During those fights, the Lizard kill fell by the deadly strike of an Assassin. Celduil retrieved the Kings powerful axe, from his body and carried it along the way. In the end, after much effort all caves were cleared and the group was standing at a cave exit which lead to a clearing.

Image

The clearing was to be the ground of a final and long battle. Kazgoroth, accompanied by two mages was waiting for them there. The archers attacked the mages first while Kazgoroth run towards the dragon shaped druids and the Lizards. Sir Seth, casted a powerful spell and to everyone's surprise, banished the beast. They all started to cheer and congratulate Sir Seth, till a roar echoed from far away. Apparently that was not the actual beast, but a mere illusion. They all got back to their initial positions and waited for Kazgoroth to come for them. The battle was long and many were injured. Slowly with the combined efforts of the lizards, druids and rangers they managed to weaken the beast. At that moment, Alyndra shouted to Celduil to use the powerful axe against the beast. The ranger switched from archery position to the axe and launched towards the beast. Kazgoroth still strong, bested Celduil, although the ranger managed to deliver a couple of powerful strikes before he fall. Alyndra picked up the axe and handed to Lambe, who threw it to the beast delivering the final blow. Finally, Kasgoroth was laying on the ground.

Image

Once the beast has fallen, there was a moment of complete silence. Everyone was looking at each other until they all realized that it was the end. They begun treating the wounded and gather the fallen. At this point, as if they all had an epiphany, they realized that the third guardian was the Lizards Tribe.

The Black Orc War

Chapter 1 - First Blood
What started as a normal scouting mission would be the beginning of one of the bloodiest wars. It was Laisren - Captain of the Doron Amar Mathora at the time - , Shynt and Mendel that were sent in the scouting mission to search for a hidden portal of Velharr. Everything begun smoothly, the intel from Catam was solid while Laisren made certain that everyone was well prepared.

The group embarked on their mission. At first only wild life presence could be sensed but there were clear-cut signs of orcish inhabitance. They travelled through the woods for a couple of hours, undetected, and eventually the group arrived at the hill that Catam described to Lairsen. On top of the hill a Black orc shaman could be seen. The Black Orc had to be taken care of, in order for the group to proceed. There was no way around and if they tried to hide, the Orc would have caught their scent. Thats why they decided to strike first. It was a swift kill that Captain Laisren orchestrated perfectly. First Laisren and Mendel approached the orc shaman in stealth. Laisren gave the first strike allowing Mendel to flank the Orc and at that exact point Shyntavayas opened fire from the distance.

After this, the group went on and succefully completed their mission. When they came back and shared their findings, all were satisfied by the outcome. All but the one Rhys Feivra, one of the senior citizens of Doron Amar. The wizard wanted to know everything that took place with the Orc. How it was killed and whether any evidence was left behind. The groups' answers didnt satisfy Rhys, who left immediatly to his Tower to consult his books about an old and forgotten - by most - treaty...
