Background: As far as he knows the Copper Fox was born Wesley Forrell, of the Dalelands. As a youth he was reckless and wild, though slow to anger. He was a natural peacemaker among the children, using his wit to turn aside bullies and strict adults alike. More than anything, our young Fox yearned for the freedom of the sea. By the age of 10 he was known to all the captains berthed on the Dragon Reach as a youth that could be depended on for simple dockside tasks. Finally Wesley ran away and was taken on as cabin boy by Coll Drommond of "The Cormorant," a merchant trader. Wesley served on "The Cormorant" for 3 years as cabin boy, lookout and finally deckhand.
At 13, his wanderlust risen again, Wesley met a half-elf Captain named Rolan Harendal and took berth under him. Though still young, Wesley proved quickly that he excelled at life on the sea. He became a jack of all trades on Harendal's ship "Kraken." Perhaps the half-elf understood the flittish nature of the young Fox and allowed himthe freedom to roam and fit in where he would. It turned into a profitable venture for Rolan. He discoverd and made use of Wesley's unusual oral skills, bartering lucrativetrades with privateers and merchants alike. Twas the eventual greed and exlpoitation of Captain Harendal that inspired Wesley to strike out on his own.
By 16 Wesley was well known throughout the pirate Isles and the coastal cities. His quick wit, charm and knowledge of how and when to stand his ground, buy a drink, or take his leave made him well liked amongst his ilk. After wasting several months in port, turning down offer after offer by various captains, Wesley took up with a river craft from Iriaebor and made his way to the Sword Coast. From Roaringshore he took on with a sea craft called "Witch Wind" under a ruthless human named Cornelius Bennett. Shortly after coming aboard, Bennett's first mate Thom Baedish led a mutiny and took the ship. Wesley, dismayed by the lack of loyalty, even to such a tyrant, took to shore in Luskan. After several weeks, frequenting the dockside taverns he was able to recruit a small crew and plotted to "liberate" a ship from a pair of dwarven pirates named Romkant and Rimkan. As rumor of this grand escapade circulated through the underbelly of Luskan, the local reputation of the copper haired youth that outsmarted the two dwarven veterans grew.
Having his own ship and a crew that revered him for his simple honesty and noble cunning, Wesley used both to earn wealth for himself and his men whilst keeping to his chivalrous code of conduct. For five years Wesley and his crew sailed the Sea of Swords and occasionally The Shining Sea taking plunder from the most ruthless and returning a few high profile items to the victims of said pirates. Wesley's uncanny ability to outwit these time tested pirates further grew his reputation and he has come to be known exclusively as The Copper Fox. It is doubtful that anyone remembers his true name, other then he himself. A thrill seeker and glory hound, the Fox had engaged in all manner of seamanship, trying his hand at whaling, piracy, privateer for hire and even occasionally taking high profile passengers on commission.
However nearing his 22nd nameday, the Fox's luck, ran out. A terrible squall took his sloop a mile off the Sword Coast. The entire crew went down with the ship, including the young captain. Through the luck that had carried him so long or the grace of Selune no one truly knows, but the Copper Fox washed ashore, near Baldur's Gate with naught but his matching blades "Tooth" and "Nail" and his hat, somehow hooked on his belt. As of yet no other crew of the Fox's Den have reported in, though the Fox still seeks them fervently.
-To find a ship to call home. (Progressing nicely.)
-To perhaps find a place in the Order of Lions (Not yet started)
-To continue to foster his network of street urchins and city folk within Baldur's Gate.(Ongoing)
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Wesley is a good sort, though often at odds with the law. He is known for his generosity to those in need, and his strange code to which he adheres stringently. I would think there would be plenty of nere-do-well pirates that feel jilted by Wesley's strange generosity, and he's often been known to raid other "evil" pirates when possible. The dwarf brothers who's ship Wesley took are undoubtedly still looking for him. Wesley is also looking for any possible crew members that may have also survived the shipwreck.
Update: Septempber 2017
Many years have passed since his initial shipwreck. Having had no luck in finding other crew members he assumes them either long dead or long rescued and has thus moved on from the search. Since coming to the coast the Fox has made many prominent acquaintances on every side of the law including several of the high clergy and paladinhood as well as pirates and ne'er-do-wells. He considers the Ilmateri Priest Ameris Santraeger, his wife Telia Navra (Santraeger) and Lathanderite Eldarian Al'maire among his greatest friends among the goodly folk. Of the not so goodly folk it is likely best if the relationships remain anonymous...
