A Hard Fall
Aya Dreys was born to a loving, pious family in Waterdeep. To fulfill her parents' wishes, she enlisted as a Paladin of Torm as soon as she came of age. Eager and intelligent, she quickly made a name for herself, but soon came under criticism for her heavy-handed tactics. After a certain incident, the details of which her Order declined to release, she was moved to Luskan.
Quickly, word spread in Luskan of her bloodthirsty, brutal, and antagonistic tendencies, which proved a menace for her Order, criminals, and frequently innocent bystanders. She would provoke conflict where peaceful solutions could be found, and was generally unfit to serve as a paladin. Finally, after striking a defense attorney in the jaw and breaking it in retaliation for convincing a judge her testimony was not conclusive, Aya Dreys fell from Torm's good graces.
Unrepentant and closed-minded, she seeks redemption that she has been repeatedly told she cannot attain without first truly feeling remorse for her trespasses. Aya protects whomever and whatever she can in a futile effort to regain Torm's blessing, though she has no compassion whatsoever for those she aids, and grows to resent them more and more as her efforts on their behalf are not rewarded.
