First Name:
Frerin
Last Name: Flamebeard

Appearance:

With ruddy skin and a fiery red, long and well maintained beard, he looks like a Dwarf's Dwarf. Ice blue eyes contrast his earthen complexion and the vibrant red of his oiled and proudly displayed beard. There is a fierceness to them that seems to exist despite the easy-going manner of his social personality. Something resolute and intangible, it gives the feeling there is more to this Dwarf than all the bluster and love for battle he displays so assertively. Young for a dwarf, but old enough to have some experience behind him. His head is shaved along the sides, a long mohawk atop it pulled back into a braided tail tied off with a bit of silvery metal towards the bottom. Along the sides of his scalp are a series of tattoos - dwarven in style, knotted and angular - that seem to speak of strength abstractly through their design. He is tall for a Dwarf, and though wide and strong he is not obese by any means.

Race: Shield Dwarf
Age: 35
Height 5'5"
Weight: 215lbs
Eyes: Ice blue
Hair: Fiery Red
Facial Hair Style: Long beard, pulled and tied in places with mithral depicting dwarven holy symbols.

Personality Profile:

He's gruff and full of dwarven bluster. A mere moment of speaking to him would tell a man he is the sterotypical dwarf. His speech is heavily accented when using the common tongue, and because of this it is often percieved that he is not a very intelligent member of his race. This is pointedly false, but he does little to correct folks of their poor assumptions, preferring to be underestimated if needed. Readily apparent through his bluster and eagerness to go to battle, is a desire to protect others. This is especially true of other dwarves, should folks spend time with him around others of his kind.

General Health:
Good
Deity: Clangeddin Silverbeard primarily, with much reverence for others Dwarf-gods
Initial Alignment: Lawful Good
Profession: Soldier, Defender, Mercenary
Base Class & Proposed Development: Monk (Final build: Fighter14/Monk3/Annointed Knight3/Dwarven Defender 10)

Habits/Hobbies:
He has known little of life outside being a warrior, never a craftsman or tradesman. When at rest, he often sets to polishing armor or shield and often making small repairs if he can - enough to keep them serviceable until he can reach a smith. He takes pride in his iconic dwarven appearance, and so he can often be found shaving his scalp's stubble, or oiling his long beard. When nervous or when in deep thought, he often strokes his beard or even tugs on it. Oddly, he shies away from the consumption of alcohol.. though he has been known to drink with dwarves for the sake of dwarven reputation.

Languages: Dwarf, Common, Orc
Weapon of Choice: Dwarven Waraxe

Background:

Frerin hails from the northern parts of Faerun, not far in fact from where the Mithral Hall lies there. When asked, he will tell people he is from the Flamebeard clan. In fact, he is from another clan originally, a much larger one known as clan Hammerhand. The Flamebeards (or Firebeards, in some places) were a family loyal to a noble family within the clan. The noble family was decimated in a battle with Orcs beneath their mountain, and the losses were such that the Flamebeards were ousted from their role as the protectors of the noble family. Many of family took oaths as slayers, swearing to seek a glorious death in battle on behalf of their clan to atone for their failures. Frerin, and a small group of like minded cousins and brothers brought their families deeper into the mountain to halls no longer used by their clan. Here, they hatched a new plan to atone for their deeds. Not by seeking death, but instead by preventing it, each seeking to perfect himself as a defender so that one day they could return to the clan as great heroes of the Dwarven people and reclaim positions as defenders of the clan. Once oaths were sworn and plans laid bare, the small band decided to call themselves Clan Flamebeard until such a time as their triumphant return was possible. Several of their cousins, a branch of the family who had over the long years twisted the name to Firebeard, joined the group later - many of them swearing instead the oath of the slayers, but swearing first to aid the cause. Many of these dwarves headed south to the Sword coast, one of which being Frerin.

So although he often claims his clan to be that of his name, in truth his is a member of a family which is a part of the larger Hammerhand clan. Once he trusts another dwarf, he could be inclined to tell the entire truth - or at least most of it. For now, he seeks training as a Defender, a Dwarven Knight who will stand as a rock against the storm when called upon. He has found bits of training in human monastaries (mostly through books and self-training) on tricks the monks their use to resist spells, or hone their defensive reflexes. He has also gathered a few manuscripts on knightly orders and their practices, through them has learned to bless his weapon for battle and further increase his resistance to magics.

Now, he has finally begun to perfect his training as a Dwarven Defender. His shield is sacred to him, and with it he will not part.

Goals:
To become a renowned Defender of his people
To atone for his family's failures
To protect dwarves, at all costs, even that of his own life
To find and join a local dwarven stronghold and pledge himself to its Defense for as long as he is able

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

His actual clan, the Hammerhands, might not look favorable upon his band's choice of calling themselves their own clan.
He is prone to trying to display what people expect of a good dwarf - this can put him at odds with himself and his oaths.
He often jumps at the chance to prove his stalwart defensive skills, and use them to protect others of his kind.
