Background: Rania hailed from the South Ward of Waterdeep, having lived there all of her life. Quite often, since she could not go home due to her mother bringing home clients, she would wander out to the Dock Ward, earning extra coin by running packages around the area, or by helping to tidy up after a night's crowd in Selune's Smile, resting her head in whatever quiet, dry place she could find at night.

After her mother vanished one sunset after telling Rania she would return home soon, the young woman was alone and lost. One night, watching the ships in the distant horizon by moonlight, Rania had an encounter that left her without doubt of what her place in life was to be. For the next eight years she studied and trained at the Temple of Selune, though her first action was to learn to read and write at age fourteen, making her a fervent supporter of literacy programs.

It was while out doing her rounds as an acoylte on a sunny afternoon that she noticed she was being followed by a tall male wearing a red hood and cloak. At first, she was afraid for her safety, but after hearing his stomach growl loudly and catching the sight of the man's blush under his hood, she felt pity for him and left her own lunch on a bench; an apple and a cheese sandwich. After ducking around a corner quickly, she noticed the man quickly devoured both, and left a lily on the bench in place. This was her introduction to Daemon Arowaven.

Later, after the two finally worked up the nerve to speak to the other, she found out that he had observed her out doing her rounds and treating the minor injuries of those in the Dock Ward, and he had been following her to ensure no one got rough or out of line. His shyness was due to his bloodline; he was an infernal blooded tiefling, though a follower of the Red Knight, one of her clergy in fact. The two became closest of friends, and eventually marrying though not out of the romantic sense of love but for a sense of family and belonging.

After Rania's completion of her studies at temple, she participated in the Mysteries of the Night ceremony, in which she and all other clergy of Selune are required to do once a year. While in commune with her goddess, it was revealed to her that her path was to be now in Baldur's Gate. Daemon and Rania sailed to the place, but while Rania found herself welcomed for the most part, Daemon was treated too often with hostility and suspicion due to his horns and tail. One morning Rania awoke to find Daemon and all of her hard saved coin gone, with no note nor letter. An attempt to reach him back in their former residence in Waterdeep was sent back with "Return to Sender" written upon it in Daemon's own writing, giving Rania all the answers she needed. After not quite two weeks in the Gate, Rania had their unconsummated union annulled and focused fully on the work her goddess had planned for her.

Character Goals, Concerns, & Plothooks:

Character Goals:
--Rania wishes to spread the message of tolerance and redemption that Selune offers. The recent "Tolerance is Treason" stance of the Dukes has caused her great turmoil, as it means the children of Eilistraee, whom she has aided in the past, are now hunted by those whose hearts have been hardened by the actions of the accursed followers of the Spider Queen. Additionally, she hopes to help stop the hatred she witnessed Daemon and she faced upon her arrival, hatred and threats based solely upon the fact the paladin of the Red Knight had horns and a tail.

--She focuses more on the healing and helping others aspect of the faith rather than the more traditional Sharran hunting side, though she will strike out against those who serve the darker gods. One goal she has is to be able to help operate a charitable organization to help others with food, shelter and employment, as well as trade training. She does not rely solely on divine or arcane means to heal, however. The Moonmaiden's light will often find her out gathering such things as herbs, crystals and gem stones in order to fully utilize the Lady's healing gifts already in place upon the lands.

--Since becoming Moonlady, she strives to make the Halls a more proactive place in Baldur's Gate by working with the other local temples as well as the Dukes and citizens. Several programs are already underway to achieve this goal, and more to come.

--The destruction of the False Child Artifact still causes Rania much private sorrow, not only for the pain those who were there experienced, but also the worry over what still unknown effects it might have. She hopes to study more on first age magic, as well as assist in locating other such dangerous items, so that they may be properly studied and safeguarded.

-- Currently she is working on beginning an education program that will teach reading and life skills, both for adults and children. She still conducts her own research in various areas, and at present has written and published 4 books now currently available in the libraries. More works are planned for the future.

Possible Plot Hook: 30 Elesias : Rania wishes to at least see the man who sired her, if not meet him outright. Further more, she is struggling with the two sides of her nature; the one that longs to be a peaceful healer and the other a far more outspoken warrior nature that is only sated when in battle against undead or other evil. She currently is undergoing a voluntary atonement path to rectify a situation she caused, and in that thread, is quietly working with other Selunites to establish a small shrine for the Lady of Silver outside of Baldur's Gate, so that all may seek Her light in the wilds under the full light of Her moon.

Possible Plothook: 23 Nightal: On the 13th of Flamerule, Rania met with Alteron Maldova, the head researcher for Lord Kuncierro, who studied her ability to call lighting. He informed her that, in his opinion, she has some sort of sorcerery heritage and that the explosion of the False Child artifact acted like a catalyst to trigger it. He further told her that should she study and train, she could become a sorceress of great power and skill. The sorcerer Cosimo DeLucca encouraged Rania to develop this natural gift, though the priestess was too afraid to do so at the time. She had seen how his growing powers had affected him, and feared the same happening to her. With time, however, her curiosity got the better of her, and she began to slowly attempt to study and harness this growing ability within her. Recently she enrolled in the new Sword Coast Guild of the Arcane as an apprentice, and continues to train and study to ensure she never loses control of that growing natural ability.

Possible Plot Hook:
Rania would like to study lycans, especially after the attacks in the Halls and after hearing of the appearance of a city in the forest that consisted only of lycans. She will be publishing a book in regards to her findings when done.

A gift from her beloved Adallan, Rania is never without this piece of jade. It is a deep green hue, with inscriptions decorating it throughout. A message is written clearly in the center:

To my everlasting love, Rania
May your fiery locks ever inspire
And your spirit never dull
For through all that you do, you make me beter

Be it known that you are the only one i wish for
That my heart is yours and none others
I am fortunate to hold your heart, and I will never bring harm to it, if I have any say.

For I love you, Rania.

Adallan Ragnon
Storm Maiden Armor
Hidden: show
Image

This exquisite armor is crafted from the hide of a great blue dragon, and was given to Rania by Everett Blackwolf. It has a special message inscribed inside the breastplate, just over the heart, a message only the two will know.
Star of the Ages
Hidden: show
Image
Given to Rania by the paladin Kald Blake, this morning star was crafted in moonlight and is a deadly work of art. Its power in battle is equaled by none, and is treasured by the priestess as a gift from a then new friend and has saved her life more times than she can count.

Hand Crafted Jewelry Box w/Engravings of the Triad Symbol
Hidden: show
Image

This intricately carved jewelry box was a gift for Rania from Alexander Marshall. Knowing the priestess well, it did not contain the typical expensive finery most would have expected.

Instead, the paladin had filled it with numerous wands and potions to keep his beloved Storm safe, touching the heart of the priestess in a way that no ring or necklace ever could have. It is never away from her, and contains all of the cherished items she has that can fit inside. Though he will likely never know it, she placed inside a stone, gathered from the spot they talked for hours while under the shade of a certain tree in the Field of Butterflies.
Last Letter from Adelaide van de Saer
Hidden: show
Image
This well worn, repeatedly opened and refolded piece of parchment is always with Rania.
It is the last letter her friend Adelaide had written to her, and it was received by Rania hours after the young priestess watched helplessly as her friend died in front of her, having promised the Sunite she would not intervene no matter what was to happen and after having kept the knowledge of the fact Adelaide would not survive the trip to herself for the entire day. Adelaide and her perfect love and compassion for everyone is what Rania desperately strives to be. Adelaide was the first person to fully believe in the Selunite priestess, and Rania has never gotten over the loss of both a friend and a mentor....her hero.
Prayer to the Moonmaiden
Hidden: show
Image

A gift from her friend Thendon, this tome is always on her person. He'd found it while adventuring, and said it both helped guide him to the Lady of Silver, as well as reminded him that he is never alone. Engraved in his own hand on the metal cover is "For my friend the Moonlighter, from Dodger", the nicknames they granted each other long ago.
Lunar Sliver
Hidden: show
Image

Rania received the silver dagger she named Lunar Sliver from Althea Hartell as a surprise gift.
She keeps it on her at all times, hidden but within easy reach.
Crystalline Tiger Lily Brooch
Hidden: show
Image

A surprise gift from Gunthar, given to her just before the wedding of Vala and Michael Dunn was to start (she, Gunthar, Teris, Wolf, and a few others attended as a group), Rania has worn this once. It is fashioned after her favorite flower, the tiger lily, the symbol of friendship, prosperity and, depending of if the flower is of the white or orange variety, passionate love if orange. For Rania, after hearing how Wolf had given Gunthar the idea, it represents a sweet gesture from someone trying to lift her spirits during a particularly difficult time in her life.
Iridescent Blue Rose
Hidden: show
Image

A gift from Dimitry after her throat had been slit by drow outside of Soubar, this blue rose "Being itself something very extraordinary, expresses the very same feeling. "You are extraordinary and wonderful. A truly wonderful personality, almost "Chimera-like' is what the blue rose says to the receiver". This particular blue rose has an iridescent reflection moving around its petals, and seems to have been magically preserved from natural decay. Rania treasures it as it is one of a kind, and a rare gesture from the usually acerbic Dimtry.
Deep Green Jade (Tiger Kan ji)
Hidden: show
Image
Daichi only gives these special stones to people that are special to him, and so as the soon to be wife of Daichi's Master, Rania received one. It is a deep green jade, with an engraved kan ji on it that means "tiger", perhaps indicating Rania's fondness for white tigers, or her alleged tigeress like demeanor. Regardless,
