One never knows how strong he can become... until being strong is his only option...

Full name : Erickar Avery

Nicknames : Rev. (Reverend), Ric

Age : 30

Race : Human

Height : 6.83

Deity : Valkur

Current alignment : Chaotic good --> Chaotic Neutral

Classes : Tough assassin

General appearance :
Fairly handsome, the unexpectedness of his appearance may be the cause of (some) women freezing in their tracks. Yet, (sometimes,) his eyes can bear a hard and quite determined expression too, perhaps even contain some sort of a warning. He has fairly sharp features with a chiseled jawline, and a bone structure that seems perfectly symmetrical.
His hair is a soft brown, like the bark of an oak tree, a hue like in the woodlands. His facial hair is well-kept, and the scent of his cologne tends to be as strong as midnight-sex.
He can join in the jokes of others, but just as well his behaviour could be stern, like he was the better man and beyond reproach. Any kindness he bears may or may not be necessarily be exposed through his expressions or gaze.
His eyes are stained with the color of dark honey, seizing an unfathomable depth and weight of a countless number of stories. But they could also glow with a light humor and playfulness, lustering a careful happiness and turning hazel when exposed to the light of the sun.
His body (if ever exposed) is a living work of art, his well-toned skin tempting to touch. His muscled whipcord body is pretty much comparable with that of a swimmer’s, with a pantherish grace of movements, and only when he fights giving away its true strength and abilities.
An impressive and very concealing armor encases his body, but he could also walk dressed in simple yet exclusive looking (outdoor) clothing, and wear a magnificent cavalier hat featuring an ostrich plume. A small dagger hangs from his waist and whether he’s wearing his armor or not, he wears a single yet a to potential agressors discouraging and disheartening blade on his back.

All in all he is quite the appearance…

Quick background :
Erickar Avery -Ric for friends- was a former pirate, among other things...
Around the age of six Ric was forced out of his home after his mom -who had battled an unknown disease- passed away. His father, who probably had been some drunk privateer, he would never know. The boy ended up on the streets where he survived the only law -survival of the fittest- by begging, singing and stealing. Since he found himself at loose ends in everything else and focused on nothing but, years of practice and experience transformed the young Erickar into a rather skilled and resourceful boy.

One day when one of his exquisite melodies captivated the residents of one the more uptown streets of the city like he were some unfettered lark, and having most of them with tears streaming openly down their faces, some retired sea captain approached the boy and awarded him for his talent by donating him his own old handmade lute. The older sea captain had been Ric’s gang’s only victim who had been returned his purse untouched. If the man had ever been aware he was pickpocketed moments before this token of generosity, was unknown.

Later on the boy would be noticed by recruiters who were active in a similar business yet of a greater magnitude, and before Ric turned twelve he joined a crew of corsairs. From Ric’s young perspective they were everything that was important to him. These corsairs didn’t cry out for explanation or condemnation, but for justification. Ric rejected the economic inequality, the gap between the rich and poor and the unfairness he had perceived in his own young life. And thus Ric -who already had been defying bourgeois convention like all the time- established himself as a pirate, learning the art, the tricks and the power of the mind, unlocking a life that seemingly was free of limitations and without side effects.

During his first years Ric was deployed as a smuggler and impostor since stealth, acting and sleight of hand were things almost natural to him. He turned out rather compatible with other aspects of jobs he performed as well and started to climb the ranks. At some point he earned the trust of Captain Jason Garrett who made Ric part of his executive. Partially thanks to Ric’s ingenuity, the crew flourished even further over the years and when Ric reached the age of seventeen they possessed at least five larger ships. By that time the young man had become quite popular among his crew and could count on a considerable number of friendships. To reward him, some time later Captain Garrett took Ric to one of the finest brothels in the city and offered him a small vacation in the company of no less than three divine beauties. Which Ric happily accepted...

But what should have been the greatest time of his life, turned into a disaster. His captain, who at the time had been in an adjacent room occupied by his own personal pursuits, was murdered in cold blood. And while Ric, who had heard the noise of a fight, tried to catch his captain’s assassins, the rest of the (germbag) and thus all the other witnesses were murdered as well.
When Ric returned to his ships -empty-handed- he found himself in the middle of accusations by the very crew who had considered him as their darling until merely hours before. Only thanks to his most dear friends the crew was persuaded to offer Ric a chance to find out what has happened. They would only allow him to return with very strong evidence.

And thus began for Ric a whole other life in which he developed other skills as well. At his own peril and at risk of his own life, Ric infiltrated an assassin’s guild called the Knives, a group in which he searched for years for the names of the clients who had ordered his captain’s death. He would do anything to bring those to -what was according to him- justice. Except for one thing. He abstained from any carnal activities during his search as from his point of view those had caused his alertness to slack off... as if such had been responsible for everything that had happened. He always had turned himself to more than just one god just as much as he verbally (as in cursing for example) linked deities to happenings in daily situations. Because of that, along with his ability to perform in combat with an amazing speed and some sort of ‘preternatural awareness, his assassin ‘buddies’ sometimes called him ‘the Reverend’, or sometimes also ‘Monk’.

Around the age of twenty-one, Ric found what he was looking for, and murdered the ones responsible -after- they had signed some statements. With the documents as proof, Ric returned to his former crew which sadly over the years had changed a lot. There was a whole different captain in charge and most of his friends were gone, some of them killed in action, others just seemed to have vanished. Not many seemed to care much over the dead of their once beloved captain as the bulk of the original crew was gone as well. Ric, who realised he had lost another home, decided to stick around anyways only to get more and more disillusioned with the life of a pirate. There was also too much lust for blood for his taste. Eventually, a few years later, he broke with ‘his’ crew when the one girl he at the time fell in love with was murdered by them.
Or so he believed…

Another few years later -and by stupid coincidence- he ran back into his Rosabel, but much time the reunited couple didn’t have as they felt threatened from the first moment they were together again. Ric chose a ship south where he met up with an old friend named Matthew Craig who had once saved him from drowning. What Ric didn’t knew, was that his last pirate captain had tracked him down through one of the members of the Knives, a guy named El Suave, who kindly offered Ric a head start, but without telling his former ‘brother’ to whom else he reported except for the Knives (the Knives, who obviously were also still after him for the for breaking their laws).

Ric left Rosabel a moment behind in the safe hands of his friend, but when he returned a little while later, he found his love and his old friend captured. Rosabel however had enough of it, and of him, and eventually turned against him. Upon confrontation she even told him she’d rather 'let herself get bedded by this entire pirate crew' than to ever trust Ric again. Ric managed to rescue Matthew and together the two men had but no choice but to flee and leave Rosabel behind in the pirate's nest. What broke his heart more was that she actually even had warned the pirates, calling for them.

Ric departed and a long period of reflection started for him upon arriving in the far far east, close to Shou Lung. It’s there where he looked for peace, but only found the ear of a wise old man. Eventually Ric tried to forget many parts of his life, and slightly became a different person, a 'decent' person. Time to time he still drank a glass or two, never too much really. But he never really managed to find said peace completely either. He had managed to gather himself again, but that was pretty much it. And his instincts were still there, probably because he was all wired for all the things he had done in his life. He's working on processing his violent and bloody past. One of the gods he sometimes turns to is Eldath, doing so when no one is around, and making confessions...

He left the Gate region for a while together with his love, but when he returned he was without, and he decided to stay at Roaringshore. He met a new girl named Seraphina, a new love with whom he traveled and worked together for a while. Their relation has been on and off twice, until it appeared irreparable.

Rp-hooks :
-Some might recognize his techniques, perhaps even wonder on how he obtained certain skills
-He's not particularly known in the region, but some from outside the region might. Ric sailed several seas, including the Sea of Fallen Stars, The Shining Sea, The Great Sea and the waters around the Moonshae Islands.
-Ric seems to walk a darker path (as of late).

Goals :
-The man is actually trying to find peace. Perhaps he also seeks atonement?
-Stay hidden (at least trying) from 'his' former pirate crew and the assassin's guild he once 'sorta' betrayed.
-Has been gone and back a few times, nowadays mostly staying at Roaring, for some reason...
