Background: Edelran was born in a farm not far from Elturel, he never knew his father (the elf part of his blood) and grew with his mother and grandparents for the first years of his life, six years. His family was killed when he was six by armed men carrying no symbols, he never knew who they were and why they did it, he was too young to make conclusions. From that day he lived in the streets of Elturel, getting random help by the city clerics and paladins and sometimes doing small crimes just to keep living. Roughly two years after the killing he met a man called Xendar, a crewleader of a small local criminal group that decided to "adopt" the young Edelran and train him. Edelran stayed with him for many years, Xendar became the fatherly figure he never had even if the two had many reasons in the years to argue and almost hate each other. The boy had a lot of anger in himself because of his past, and everytime they had a job to do it was hard for him to keep that out of the picture often making him more violent or careless. Xendar tried his best to teach him deal with that inner side sometimes punishing him even with violent ways, so Edelran learned to hide that side of him and started to "change" at least on the surface. Xendar was kind of a "gentleman" criminal, he didn't like Edelran playing the brute messing up with his plans but they both felt the same away about the targets of their crimes, they only stole to people they knew were somehow involved in some criminal activities themselves and any of the sort, in a way to keep their soul clean, or try to.
Edelran was 25 when Xendar died of illness, that was a big hit on him even if their relation was often harsh and difficult, he became the crewleader himself because nobody wanted to step over him and he always had the right attitude for being a leader. For a time it all went well, the crew was almost glad of Edelran leading because of his somewhat aggressive and quicker action and way of thinking. But luck is not eternal, he had the smile of lady luck for many years but it all vanished in one night. They went into a mansion outside of town, well guarded, to steal a precious magic amulet but in the dark of a corridor he met a boy, probably the son of the mansion owner. He could have killed the boy and save everyone, take the amulet and go away, but the boy started screaming and he was frozen, he couldn't do it. They all ended up killed or in jail, except him, he managed to escape and wnadered around the sword coast for a few years feeling guilty about his action until he decided to go back to the south and stop at Baldur's Gate. He would have tried his best to overcome that sense of guilt and start a new life.
Goals: Stop the devil invasion to the best of his possibilities. Status and Fame are goals as well.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: The killers of his family are consciously left without an idendity for any future story that might bring. Also, Edelran will not ever do crime against poor people or without having even a slight moral reason to do so. He takes some pleasure in killing people he believes deserving of his criminal actions.
Important Characters in Edelran's Life:

Vin - Edelran's Mother
Edelran only stayed with his mother for the first six years of his life, until the day she was killed. Vin was a beautiful woman, the kind of beauty that has no need for makeup and a proper dress to shine, she was a country woman after all. Even if rather cold, for a mother, she was loving. Edelran hardly remember her face and voice now and this saddens him, he never thought to pursue the cause of her death but that still remains in his mind, as a wound. Vin never talked about Edelran's father, if asked she always managed to change subject, which was easy for her considering that Edelran was very young.

Xendar - Edelran's Adoptive Father
Edelran lived with Xendar for almost 20 years, he was the man who took him away from the streets, gave him food, gave him shelter. But Xendar was a lunatic and a violent man, a twisted personality covered by his own sense and view of justice. He was a thief and a murderer, the leader of a fairly skilled crew in the area near Elturel. He loved picking wealthy nobles as targets for his crimes, justifying his choices as moved by an idea of greater good "they deserve it" was his line. He was a charismatic leader but one that could not stand objections, and Edelran payed the price of his personality many times because of this. Xendar had no experience as a father, he raised Edelran the same way you would raise a race horse, specifically for one purpose, being a tool of his own games and plans. When his tool didnt work, or questioned him too much he hit him, sometimes almost to death. Edelran learned most of his skills from Xendar, and even if he wasn't a good father he loved him and hated him at the same time, ironically, in the attempt to bend his son to his own will Xendar ended up reinforcing Edelran's rebel nature.

Dalyor - Edelran's First True Friend
Dalyor joined Xendar's crew when Edelran's was around 14 years old, the elf was a skilled fighter, nimble and lethal. Dalyor was the only person in the crew that stood up for Edelran when he used to question his father, and was almost sent away from the crew because of this. At first they started to bond because of Edelran's will to learn elven and understand the other half of his blood better, Dalyor wasn't very fond of his own race though. The elf helped Edelran find his own fighting style and was his teacher for more than 10 years, he used to swing dual shortswords but Edelran phisique was more suited for daggers. After Xendar's death Edelran became the leader of the crew and Dalyor was made his second, his right arm. He was a loyal friend more than a teacher, he died the night it all changed, when Edelran made the mistake that costed his crew lives and freedom. This is a wound that is still bleeding for Edelran.
