Lomith Dy'nesen

Unread post by Moridin »

I've had this in private for some time, but I think due to Lomith's current character arc that this need not be private anymore. I updated it a bit.

Personality Profile/History:
I will try to actually profile her now, she normally just happens.
Lomith when I first made her was a priestess devoted to the spider queen. She was sort of a tragedy. She was controlled by her fears, her desire for vengeance, and due to many years of tutelage had been a complete mess emotionally. She had worshipped the spider queen with all her heart, due to what eldest sister and yath'tallar, Vasra, had did to her. She was neither favoured nor disfavoured, though she had had a personal mission to find her sister Halolinara and sacrifice her to obtain Lolth's favour. Lomith was violent, brash, and somewhat predictable during this time. Given the right circumstances she was nearly feral.

Prior to 1351 DR, Lomith spent most of her time out in the tunnels. She rarely entered Sshamath, as she had rejected it, and their way of life.

In 1351 DR, she finally found Halolinara. Lomith organized a hunting party to deal with her heretical sister. They were ultimately defeated by the Eilistraeeans and Lomith was taken prisoner. Halolinara had supplied the start of Lomith's path towards redemption, by sparing her life, when she had no reason to truly do so, at least from Lomith's perspective. After that, Lomith had focused extensively on organizing her thoughts, stilling her mind, and controlling her emotions. She had blamed her failure on herself. She had acted recklessly, and could have gotten those under her killed pointlessly. Despite that her path away from Lolth had begun because of it, it ended up making her a more dangerous and effective priestess. This had occurred soon after she became matron of Qu'ellar Zau'afin.

In 1352 DR, Lomith spent much of the year out in the tunnels, avoiding her responsibilities as a matron. She avoided civilization and focused purely on survival and tracking her sister's band. Eventually she had given up and returned to Sshamath, but she had had much time to contemplate the way the Drow live. This was the year she truly started to turn to alcohol, after she had returned. After 1352, Lomith became mired in the quagmire that is Sshamath politics. She showed significant aptitude over the years. Doesn't mean she enjoyed it though. Her two greatest feats since then in the political theater were informing the bureaucracy and the conclave of the planned Dev'lin attack before it happened, and having Bregan Daerthe's leadership get replaced.

1352 DR was also the year Lomith found an Eilistraeean priestess, Rilae'ar'an, to be an ally more often than she was an enemy. They both shared a connection to Irrtana Sshamath. Lomith and Rilae'ar'an would find themselves as allies when Irrtana was near, even if it was more an uneasy truce.

Over the years, Lomith became increasingly disillusioned with the spider queen, but needed to keep appearances up. She would often retreat to her quarters and get drunk, read or write. Sometimes she would even lash out at those around her. The worst instance of this was I think in 1355 DR, when she discovered that Halolinara's daughter Vierdra had fallen for a Vhaeraunite spy. She had planned to use Vierdra to entrap Halolinara at the time. When Vierdra had taken his corpse to every deity of the Dark Seldarine except for Lolth. Lomith had been enraged because Vierdra reminded her of Halolinara. She had also been fearful of the spider queen due to seeing her own flaws(as she saw them) in Vierdra. Lomith giving Vierdra to the yochlol pushed her past the point. She has been consumed with guilt ever since.

In 1356 I think, Lomith became disfavoured by Lolth because she made the same mistake Vierdra had, but this time she had went to Lolth. The yochlol killed her, at first she denied that. Lolth had then sent her a vision where a symbol of Eilistraee had been sewn on her garments, and she showed her father as a heretic and eluded to her mother being one too. She named Lomith a heretic and promised to exterminate her line. This kind of shook Lomith at her core. In 1357 she was found by an Eilistraeean. She had been drinking in Bregan Daerthe at the time, nearly paralyzed by her fear of Lolth and trying to forget.

Background:

The House Dy'nesen was at one time, one of the more powerful houses of Guallidurth, one of the many warring Qu'ellar vying for seats. In the two hundred years before Lomith was born, the Dy'nesens had raised their standing to 9th in the city.

As Lomith grew up, her direct family under matron Xullra'raema and patron/weapons master, Shyntdorldor, only expanded. Xullra'raema was primarily focuseed on increasing the houses power, and combatting external threats. She never noticed the cracks that were forming in the floor below her feet.

Lomith spent much of her adolescence with Halolinara as her mentor. Hal had grown fond of Lomith over the years, and Lomith's potential ascension to the clergy was the catalyst to her leaving Lolth. This soon after became known by the family when a disaster struck during the first attempt at Lomith's ordination. Halolinara escaped.

House Dy'nesen earned the ire of Lolth. They became disfavoured. Xullra'raema had focused her efforts on hunting Halolinara down, and even had attempted to follow tradition. Nothing sated the queen of spiders, and the city over time became more hostile to the family.

Whispers of what was to come began to spread through Guallidurth like a plague, and eventually, Xullra'raema paid for the strongest mercenary company in Guallidurth to help protect her House from the perceived threat. Three days after the mercenaries were hired, Lomith was unexpectedly called byVasra to her sect's temple and was forced to watch events unfold.

Pharafein'Xun Hla, Phara'Hla for short, had been staring at the lofty perch held by Qu'ellar Dy'nesen for over a hundred years. The Dy'nesens had ultimately brought about their own demise, for the mercenaries had already taken a contract from Phara'Hla.

Their annihilation of Qu'ellar Dy'nesen was incomplete. There were three survivors that had escaped the house's destruction. Halolinara, who was nowhere to be found. In addition, both Lomith and Vasra had been adopted by Qu'ellar Despval.

Phara'Hla was summarily destroyed. Several houses followed, all vying for the vacuum they had caused. Lomith continued her training to become one of the Yath. Eventually, she was indoctrinated.

Qu'ellar Despval was heavily involved in the slave trade, even trading to cities as far away as Sshamath. They even traded with the Kuo Toa of Sloopdilmonpolop and the mind flayers of Oryndoll. They would often raid other communities in the underdark, and even the surface to obtain their slaves. At first Lomith was tasked with training some of the slaves, later she was allowed to join in on both surface and underdark raids.

On the return from a successful raid on Southern Tethyr, Lomith's raiding party ran into a mage and his apprentice. The wizard, Talfen, and his apprentice killed most of her raiding party in a surprise ambush. They had left her for last. Talfen had told her that death was too easy for her, and teleported her to the tunnels outside of Sshamath. He left her there.

Goals:
1. Survive. Both the surface and underdark are exceedingly dangerous for her, only the underdark promises guaranteed death or remaining in a city. I may add more in the future.

Possible Individual Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

1. Finding Halolinara, a priestess of Eilistraee. The motivation originally was for pure revenge. Now her motivation is to warn her of her daughter.
2. Qu'ellar Despval has spies living in Sshamath, and sometimes sells slaves to the city. Just like Qu'ellar Zau'afin, they have claim over Lomith. I could see assassins coming after her, as Lomith's death would likely bring great favour to that house.
3. Freeing the remaining Dy'nesens that remain under Lolth's influence.

Possible Characters
Halolinara Dy'nesen - Follower of Eilistraee, expected to be moving North. Encountered Lomith in the wilds outside of Sshamath once two or three years ago. The encounter ended with 37 dead Eilistraeeans, with Lomith, Irrtana and Isendur disarmed tossed out into the Underdark since she couldn't convince herself to kill Lomith.

Umraeril Despval - Matron of Qu'ellar Despval, Priestess - Could possibly come to Sshamath as a representative of the council.

Talfen Briarfell - An epic level half-elf Mage, the one that sent Lomith to Sshamath. Lomith is responsible for killing his daughter. Hostile

Assassins - Both from Qu'ellar Despval and Zau'afin.

Rauvxena Hladuis - A High Priestess of Eilistraee, somewhere on the surface, is the Head Priestess of Halolinara's band.

Items of importance in Lomith's Possession:
1. Ring of the Weapon's Master(Text-edited Untherite Generals Ring)
This ring was the ring Lomith pulled off of her father's lifeless hand.
2. Imbued Lichbreaker
A weapon that was designed for the destruction of undead, it was further enhanced by both Akordra Torret and Tsabrak of the Blood for Lomith's service to Sshamath for single handedly holding back a Ghaunadauran army of oozes and undead that was destined to invade Sshamath.
3. Cloak of the Orog Magi
A cloak that was pulled off of the corpse of an Orog sorceror, when an Orog tribe attacked the Zau'afin compound outside of Sshamath.
4. Lomith's Belt
A belt that was modified by T'rissantar Phyrlin.
5. Spider crown
The spider is a mithral spider that sits on her forehead, its abdomen resting between Lomith's eyes. In the abdomen of the spider rests a large ruby, that is oval in shape. The head possesses 8 rubies for it's eyes, and it seems as it if has mithral fangs that are embedded into Lomith's scalp. The 8 legs from the spider slide together to form the crown, each leg being designed separately and with appears to be joints.
