Insane in the Karl Kane

History
John Kane knew from the moment his boy was born, that he was something else. Much like his mother, though he wouldn't openly admit that. After she left him on a whim (she was whimsical like that), he did his best to forget her. Karl quickly grew into a handsome, if somewhat shy, young man.

From a young age, John made Karl work on their farm. A small farm somewhere south of Trademeet. Being a single father, it was a great way to keep an eye on his son. Of course, if there were trades to be made with Trademeet or Mosstone, they would go together as well.

Things were going well, and they were handling the farm absolutely fine together. Until she moved in nearby. John was annoyed the moment he set his eyes on her. A young, whimsical girl named Neeya, living in a nearby farm. Perhaps it was because she reminded him so much of his own lost wife, perhaps it was because she has so much interest in his Karl. Be as it may, he didn't like it!

Every hour that Karl didn't have to work the farm, he spent with Neeya, and she with him. But, to keep his relationship with his son in order, he didn't dare oppose too openly. But that girl... That damn girl...

Young love

Weeks went by, though to some it felt like years. Karl and Neeya spent a lot of time together, and eventually, the moment came that Karl asked John to allow Neeya on one of the trips to a nearby caravan stop or farm, for trade.

Again, not daring to oppose his son too openly, he allowed it. Even if it was simply because he could then keep an eye on them...

The trade route

All the while, Karl and Neeya were plotting a way to get enough trust from Karl's father to be allowed to go alone. And then, after weeks and weeks, the day was finally there. Karl went to his father, and asked if they could go together. Karl was 19, old enough to be allowed to travel alone, he said. His father gave him a long stern look, before he said "Alright... but no horseplay! You go there, and come straight back!".

Karl, over the moon, of course agreed. He had every intention to prove the trust his father had in him was warranted. They prepared for the trip, not much unlike Karl always did, and set off together.

They were never seen again

The forest (Karl's perspective)
After long travel, they took a small break. Neeya suggested they'd find a nice, safe spot a bit away from the road to rest. Karl hesitantly agreed. After a bit more travel, they found a spot, at the edge of the Forest of Tethir. They rested, ate and drank, until they felt fit enough to travel on again. They were clearing up the supplies they had laid out, and just when they were ready to go, Neeya's eyes widened, she screamed and ran straight into the forest.

Karl ran straight after her, as fast as he could, but he couldn't keep up. He was following glimpses of her for hours, and the forest grew darker and darker. How could she run so fast, and so long!? He grew tired, and started following shapes, and small glistening lights. He started hearing sounds in tongues he couldn't understand. After a while, he wasn't even sure what he was following anymore. He wandered aimlessly, following voices and lights.

He was in the forest for days, though it felt like a long dream to him. At times, he wondered what he was still doing there, feeling some fear of being lost. Then the feeling slipped away again. He kept following voices and lights, until one light shone brighter than all others. He moved towards it, like a bug is drawn to the light, and there she appeared. A beauty like he had never seen before, charming, perfect with a sleek figure and perfect features. The bright light receded, and in some magical way contained themselves in her eyes, like the light of a thousand suns. Karl was smitten. And then she spoke to him, in a magical language he never heard before, yet understood word for word.

”You look lost, my boy. Give yourself to me and my mistress, and I will give you purpose.”

Neeya was but a faint memory, if even that. Karl willingly gave himself to this woman, Arla, a Nymph, fully and wholeheartedly. He never felt like this before, and wanted to hold on to that feeling. He reached out his hands, and walked towards her. The closer he got, the stronger the feeling, and the brighter the light became once more. Until he was engulfed in her light… and woke up on the edge of the forest where he entered.

He lived on, in a dream he never quite seems to wake from. His body walks the lands, but his mind is still in the forest…

Profile

Full name: Karl Kane
Age: 27
Race: Human, Tethyrian
Sex: Male
Date of birth: 30 Ches, 1333
Place of birth: A small farm near Trademeet, Tethyr
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Patron deity: Titania
Profession: Adventurer, (Mad) Seer
Classes: Warlock, Feytouched
Primary language: Chondathan

Secondary languages:
Alzhedo, Thorass - Native. Karl was raised with these languages as they were commonly spoken in Tethyr.
Sylvan - He suddenly spoke and understood Sylvan, after brokering his pact.

Physical description:
While of quite regular height, this lanky man is clearly not as heavy as most of his Tethyrian counterparts. He is exclusively wearing a heavy, burgundy leather overcoat, with a similarly coloured flamboyant hat. Only a small strip of his face is visible, between a collar on his coat, and the rim of his hat. If you could get a good look at that strip (or his entire face, should you ever see him without the collar and hat), you'd notice he is covered in tattoos and markings.

His eyes are a bright blue, but sometimes seem to shift colour ever so slightly.

Psychological description:
Previously a somewhat shy, but very kind-hearted person, the shyness has left him completely. Still a kind-hearted person, he has been marked by the chaos of the fey. He is often battling for his sanity, and might hear, see or say things that make absolutely no sense. He can occasionally be heard speaking complete gibberish.

He still tries to do only good, but might see situations different than they are.

Religious views:
After brokering has pact, he has gained an obsession with fey. He dreams of Titania and Arla, the Nymph who brokered his deal, and worships them.

Pact:
Fey pact with Titania, through a Arla.
Arla asked him to give himself to her (while she served Titania), and he did. He is fully devoted to her, and Titania through her, and will do whatever he thinks will please her. His full devotion to her was rewarded with his warlock powers.
She in turn felt a faint connection. An amusement, an interest in this man that has traces of her blood in his veins. She feels he is closer to the fey than a regular human, and as such feels he deserves a closer connection, trusting that he will honor that trust by doing right by the fey.
His powers are partly (the majority) granted by Arla, and partly a formerly dormant power in his blood.

Ancestor:
Unbeknown to him, the blood of the fey also courses through his veins, as it did through his mother's.
