Trees for the Graveyard

Unread post by Flights of Fantasy »

Nightal 3, 1352 DR

After Aska's talk with Sage Angus outside of the Graveyard, she continues to make time to visit the graveyard in her attempts to put the souls to rest. She also now takes the time to look along the outside boundaries of the graveyard, spying for spots along the blighted land that might be able to support life.

Upon finding such a spot, she would mark it and return another day with a small sapling retrieved from the nearby forests. After carefully planting the young tree, she would then continue her search looking for other spots that have been able to resist the blight. The work will take quite a long time, but her goal is to work inwards in a spiral as she slowly plants more trees as she trusts to their natural abilities to take what is good in the soil and make it better. She also hopes that the forces of nature will take notice of her work and aid her.

DM Boo wrote:Rumors about the Graveyard are relatively easy to find in the local taverns, and you are able to quickly find out that it is a topic of much superstition and fear among the people of Baldur's Gate. Upon striking up casual conversations with the local civilians and guards, you hear much of the same thing. Whenever you broach your desire to cleanse the graveyard of its blight to anyone, most of those you talk to would give you a skeptical glance and say that you are "meddling in affairs you shouldn't" or "upsetting the spirits" and other superstitious nonsense. You find that Guards and officials are unwilling to broach the subject, and upon inquiring for an audience with the Dukes with the Palace Clerk, it is denied.

You are also able to learn that most people bury their dead in other graveyards, cremate the bodies, or hand them over to officials to deal with.
DM Boo wrote:Further interaction with Angus would prove to be relatively fruitless. Whenever you approach him and try to ask him any questions, particularly about the burial of the dead or the undead taint, he deliberately avoids the question or shakes you off entirely, saying: "I am much too busy with my research to answer your questions!"

During the evening, Acolyte Aska Le'te'te'dwa was last seen leaving Candlekeep as she made her way down the path. Shortly thereafter, one of the guards may or may not have heard a death-like scream echoing from down below.

Aska Le'te'te'dwa is unable to continue to care for the trees she once planted. Only the plants that are able to survive on their own do so.
