Today a redhaired, tiefling woman in strangely mixed outfit could be seen walking into the Inn with a big leather backpack and few more pieces of luggage in a company of a female sun-elf with short cut hair in similarly mixed outfit. She would take towards the rooms and disappear there for a while.

Lannia and Derik have been seen coming and going in a flurry. Last eve they opened their doors for an impromptu gathering. Anyone not looking to make trouble was welcomed with free food and drink.

Before the night was done good food was had, stories and news of the Coast were exchanged, and help offered where it was needed. A lease agreement was signed for the second room at the anchor, and the new tenant made herself at home the following morning.

Rumor has it yesterday at the Last Anchor, Ronja Leonheart, Lannia Ranloss and Derik Ranloss met with one of the Elders of Ulgoth's Beard named Mergus to begin negotiations on how they can aid and assist the small Hamlet by the sea.

They continued through the town, speaking to the Captain of the Guard, one of the Farmers and the lone Blacksmith.

Late last night the golden haired Elf staying upstairs returns to the Anchor. Pushing the door open with a force.
The Elf's face have some rose to their cheeks. Clothes and hair are stained by blood and grave dirt, reeking the moldy stench of a crypt that lingers after too long a descent. Her belt, usually strapped full of colorful flasks and packed bandages is almost empty.
Annoyingly searching the room with her eyes. Arms crossed to her chest.
At the sight of the Anchor being seemingly quite and empty, save for the staff. The Sun Elf reach her hand to clutch a silver amulet of a full moon, adorned by an amethyst.
After a long sigh escapes her lips the Elf strides upstairs. Her steps supplement her anger for intent grace.

Half an hour later. The Sun Elf comes down through the kitchen. She is clean now, and smells of of sweet summer petals. A bright golden mane falling loose down her back. Drying after a brush.
Wearing a white dress matched by golden jewelry She now holds her chin up walking over to the bar. Her tone is soft spoken. a little tired between smiles and giggles.

"Evening John..
Yeah it was a long night..
It's will pass, some red wine will pass it faster..
Yeah make it a bottle, i have the coin."

***

The Sun Elf would sit to the bar for another hour or so. Slowly sharing the bottle with her thoughts between sips of ponderous reflection.
As the bottle is finished the Sun Elf gets up.
Finding grace in her step despite her own intoxication, she half staggers up stairs for much needed rest.

Such as the new barn and repair of the fencing for Farmer Tom and the new Blacksmith work station on the side by the road to replace or incorporate the abandoned house there.

Costs estimated to be 75,000 for the Barn and Fencing including Labor. And 50,000 for the new Blacksmith work station.

50,000 gold down payment was received by Barbryn.

Barnacle Bob was promised by Aiden that his 4 fishing boats would be repaired and serviced for no cost. and Bob said he will order new Nets for the fish and let them know how much the cost will be.

It was a productive day for the staff and friends of the Last Anchor. After meeting with an architect to discuss some community improvements. Lannia, Derik, Niy, and Aidan spoke with Bob about the boats and rigging of the local fishermen.

Image

There was a bit of banter, of course. Aidan's famous shark incident was forgiven but not forgotten. The shamaness Lannia was well known to cast a line by the shack and buy up extra catch from the fishermen to provide the Anchor's fresh catch menu.

She'd approached the farmer Tom for some gourds, but was ignored after she make a joke about using them as a projectile to lob at her husband. Apparently she was not yet to joking terms with the man.

A few new ideas came up, including Aidan's idea for a proper dockhouse and fish market. Today's work was done, however, and they went back to the Anchor for drinks and good company.

Image

Aiden had dropped the news that he and his new love, Linela, had eloped. Lannia, a bit disappointed she'd not gotten the chance to be present, made him recount the full tale. She likely asked more questions than were customarily appropriate, but she gave herself license as his adopted daugher.

Finally the shaman retired for the evening, Derik on her heals. Niy and Lylan retired to their room and Aidan went home to his new bride.

For a while, Last Anchor staff and even some patrons have been seen doing some manual labor in the fields leveling ground for new buildings and providing support to the workers to build those buildings. ((See ulgoth beard rumors. I'll tidy this up with some quotes later)).

These efforts include: providing refreshments for the workers, tending the animals, and magical shapeshifting to help is the heavy lifting, some forms perhaps a tad bit "scary "... and of course shenanigans continue...

The children in the village are the first to line up for the cupcakes eating them all up... maybe one or two workers would be able to sneak in to grab one for themselves but generally leave them to the kids to enjoy.

*The workers come to the Anchor for the buffet in shifts or on their lunch or dinner breaks, thanking Lannia for her and Teris for their hospitality. This makes the workers happy and more productive as long as they don't eat too much.*

During Lannia's rich buffet offerings, she would happily dig in, and once a convenient moment appeared slap a notepaper on the table, nudging it toward the couple to see.

In the evening Lannia fishes the small lake and nearby river coming home with multiple stringers of brown, golden, and rainbow trout. Her crazy auburn hair is its normal wild collection of untamed curls framing her freckled face and warm sapphire eyes.

Fish cleaned and cold stored she heads to bed only to be up early the next morning to put on a breakfast banquette for those the come early enough. This morning she offers a build your own breakfast wrap;

Their choice of:

Egg whites, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, scrambled soybean curd
Bacon, sausage, smoked fish
chopped broccoli, wilted spinach, fresh spinach, collard greens
seasoned or plain rice, quinoa, millet, or home fried potatoes
In a wheat wrap or wrapped in pickled grape leaves.

Breakfast service done she starts the day buffet up, showing Mara how to prepare the dishes she wants served throughout the day. The trout buffet begins with golden pan fried fingerling trouts, blued trout, and baked trout. She works for a number of morning hours with the crew, using her golem shape as she had before to assist with heavy lifting, but around the noon hour she disappears again.

She swings by Bob to pick up one of the marlins that came in off a fishing boat and sets up a long pit fire, letting it reduce to coals while she prepares the giant sail fish. She removes the sail, setting it aside and then stuffs the belly of the fish with tubers, lemons, leeks, and herbs. She sews the belly shut and then sews the entire fish into a series of pork back skins. At this point she might require help lowering this monstrous wrap into the pit of coals. She shovels more coals over the top and buries the creation until a late dinner service.

At the dinner service she sprawls out the sail across a bed to greens for presentation. She unearths the beast removing the pork skins and lays the baked fish out on its sail. As the crew come to dinner she takes a knife and splits the sewn seam at the belly, letting the contents spill out in a steaming, fragrant array. She then stands over the fish, cutting off portions for the workers as they come through the line. There are remaining trout dishes for those that don't want marlin, and bean soup with flatbread for Teris or anyone else who asks.

She toils to produce banquettes of a similar caliber for the duration of the project, alternating through themes involving fish, chicken, beef, pork, rabbit, and venison. There is always some form of hardy soup, fresh breads, and tossed wild greens. Workers are encouraged to take home leftovers. She only asks that the word be spread of the kind of food and service one can expect from The Last Anchor and staff. Inwardly she also hopes the townsfolk make note of her hard work ethic and warm nature. The ultimate goal is to be accepted by the community they are serving to improve.

Some time after breakfast while Captain Aidan Thatcher is working on the boats a captivating woman sets up outside the anchor with a flute, harp, and lute. Some of the townsfolk may recognize Linela as she has played in the small hamlet before. Once miss Fryar now wears a beautiful older wedding ring set. If asked, she introduces herself as Linela Susan Thatcher and clarifies that she is married to the man working the boats.

She fills the air with song all day while food is served, taking small breaks here and there. She seems prone to small dizzy spells, so she performs sitting most of the time. For those that have seen her perform before this might seem odd. She was well known for her lively dancing and boundless energy.

Still her impossibly large amber eyes sparkle with life. As the workers come by in shifts she greets them with a smile that is vibrant and infectious. Her snow white hair dances about her delicately in flowing waves. When she is not playing the flute, she sings along with the music, angelic voice filling the air.

Later that evening, Aidan and Linela are seen boarding a vessel. If those present were nosy enough they might overhear talk of the couple returning in a few days.

Rumour has it that Ulgoth's Beard is abuzz with activity. Members of the Last Anchor... Derik and Lannia Ranloss, Ronja, Teris, Lylan'Synor, Niyressa, Aidan and others along with the crew hired by the renowned builder and architect Barbryn Glori from the Merchant League of Baldur's Gate have improvements to the tiny hamlet well underway.

With the growing need for decent armor and weapons, the first building to go up was the Blacksmith Shop. In other news the pigs are so happy with their new found peace and quiet now that he is no longer next to their pens. It is said the weathered old Blacksmith was so thrilled to have a decent place of his own, that he hired on an Apprentice to help him!

As the start of day crept through the hamlet of Ulgoths Beard, carrying with it the low-lying coastal mists, Aidan Thatcher set about to preparing the tools of his trade. Soon enough village fishermen would stir from their homes after morning victuals and moments with the loved ones. They would come to be taught what little they might not know about the crafts regarding the repair and construction of boats. What might have began as another typical day moved towards work beyond their normal measures.

First he brought the men into the woodlands searching for pine trees. He would speak on the need for fatwood, those lower dead branches of a pine tree right near the trunk that hold the greatest portion of resin within the tree. Cutting them off and chopping them into short staves and wedges. He would mention to them that the the more orange or amber the wood is the better it is for the process.

Image

Image

Image

Carrying a great deal of this wood back he would drag out his shipwright tools, in this instance a large metal cauldron with a few holes in the bottom, and a large metal bowl. He'd bury the bowl in the ground up to it's edges, set the cauldron over it. Then proceed to fill the cauldron with the staves of wood, richest and meatiest ends at the bottom of the cauldron, standing them all up till the inside of the cauldron was full. Following this up with placing tinder wood, leaves, twigs and then chopped logs all the way around the cauldron outside of it. He would set this tinder on fire till he'd have a good fire built all the way around the cauldron. Taking leather he wets down, he'd lay it over the top of the cauldron, followed by a flat slab of stone so that there's no gap for air to enter the cauldron from above. Over the course of the day he would set up several more of these. Teaching the men to maintain the fires.

Mid day he would break for lunch and while the other men might travel up to the Last Anchor to take their meal, Aidan would await his beautiful wife and the basket she prepared for them to share. Taking his meals with her and enjoying what moments the newly wed couple might find allotted to them. His worry over her dizzy spells drawing the expressions of concern and perhaps that of hope that such symptoms may be for cheerful reasons. Spending what leisure he can in her company before the crews return, he is reluctant to see these moments end.

However, ambition is not without reward, and so he takes to the second part of his teaching. Coals burned down, cauldrons set aside, the lower pans are filled with the secretion of the sap from the wood inside the barrels in what would now be called pitch. Still warm enough that it is like a thick syrup, he divides some into one bucket, fills it with sawdust from lumber cut within the village and stirs it together. The rest he leaves in the metal pan over hot coals. He gathers up some wood and shows the crew the size of wood wedges they will need for the process ahead. On those fishing boats that don't need wood replaced he would proceed to show them how to pound wedges between the wood planks in the boats, filling the gaps between the boards of the boats structure.

Image

Soon as the wedges are in place and any access is cut away he would pour some of the sawdust and pitch into the cracks and gaps, while the boats are still upside down and being worked on. With horse hair brushes he would gather up some of the other pitch left in the pan heating. With the pitch he would brush it over the outside of the boat hall to coat it as varnish to protect the wood from the water elements.

Image

He likewise would take some of the ropes they use in their trade and soak them in the pitch to show them that it's usable to keep the rope from rotting and from damage with salt water. Suggesting they might consider it with nets as well to prolong the life of the ropes.

For those boats that need replacement of lumber, he would take measurements with string, knotting it at the proper lengths. Then with the help of the crew head out and cut ash trees for the required lengths of wood. Through another process for preparing wood and boats, they would soak the plants they've created in water over night. By the following day they would heat this wood over open coals, letting the wood steam. With the tools of his trade Aidan would teach them how to use the steaming to help them bend and warp the wood. When the wood seems pliable enough they would replace the old rotting or worm infested wood from the boat with these planks, nailing them into place.

When the wood has dried to it's new form and becomes natural for it to remain in that position, he would have them wedge the gaps, reheat the sawdust pitch and fill all the gaps, before varnishing the last of the boats. All this behind them, after the four boats that Bob uses for his fishermen are made ready for fishing once more. He would take a more lengthy time to teach them of other techniques of building boats. From start to finish he would teach them how to lay out the framework for a fishing vessel right their on the sands of the beach.

Using measurement of logs buried upright in the ground, Aidan the Shipwright would build the hall starting by steam warping and bending a larger beam of lumber into the boats Keel, soon producing wood staves turned into ribs either side of the ship. Continuing the process of warping boards he teaches the fishing crews of Ulgoth's beard about clinker built boats compared to their normal carvel designs.

Explaining the importance of clinker hall and it's stronger protection against rocks and other dangers of the water. He would take the better part of three weeks working on this vessel with them till it's construction is finished. He would varnish it the same as the last, using the sawdust mixed pitch to fill the gaps of the boats hall but not needing the wedges this time to place between boards.

The man seems natural in his work, this is as big a part of him as breathing or eating. He seems truly happy doing this work but let it not be said that it can be noted the highlight of his day is undoubtedly holding a certain young lady in his arms.

As the land where the barn is planned gets leveled and the smithy takes shape on the hill, Derik can be found in the midst of it, performing what manual labor his physical strength as well as moderate engineering knowledge lends to the best.

As the animals are tended to by Teris, others move in to lend a hand, and the workers fed and catered to, he also begins to socialize a bit more, but always while he is working.

As the smithy nears completion he steps away from the rest of the workers for a moment. Standing near the pond, he crosses his arms and watches the building take form, watches the area for the barn be prepped, and listens to the sounds of Aidan working his magic with the ships down at the beach.

He watches the town he andnhis wife have chosen for a home take the step towards being an even more pleasant place to live, improvements that he hopes will benefit all of the community.

He watches his home grow and take steps towards prospering and a small, pleased smile spreads across the lips of the Tempurian warrior.

Then he lets the moment go, and gets his arse back to work...

On the 8th of Eleasis come afternoon Ronja walks into the Anchor backpack strapped on and with a heavy bag in her right hand. She drops the heavybag on the sofa before walking up to the bar to ask John if the Ranlosses are in. If they are not, she would take seat there as she waited with a glass of juice, engaging in small talk with John.

Once the couple arrives a set of keys is handed over to them. "I am set to travel out now, heading to the ship right after this. These are the keys to the storage facility full of the provisions, it is located in the docks of Baldurs Gate. Just leave it empty, i will deal with the landlord once i return. The guards and crew on the Storm has been informed about you two possibly needing some help in getting the goods to Ulgoths Beard and situated where they are meant to be stored. So just head down where the ship is docked and let them know when or if you want that done." She remains there to conversate with them a little while longer, offering both a tight hug before the redhead left to step onto onto the road again, and towards the next ship heading out on a lengthy sail.
