A hooded figure was seen along the Tradeway. His behavior seemed erratic and he looked to be rather fixated on something involved with the caverns near Soubar, ducking into them as he finds them. Shortly after, for those who may have been in earshot, various incantations can be heard. To those knowledgeable in the Arcane, it would sound as though the figure is attempting to trace a teleportation spell, though, suggesting from his apparent lack of knowledge regarding which cavern he should be searching in, it may well be a very useless endeavor.

A party of elite Krinkrak Dwarves lead by Commander Semli was seen escorting a group of Human refugees to Baldurs Gate. The refugees, as well as clan Krinkrak, spoke of the fall of the Three Hamlets to a powerful devil known as Yogi, who singlehandedly shatttered the enchanted gates of the settlements. The Krinkrak Dwarves fought a devil scouting party while escorting the refugees from their refuge in the Troll Claws, but a pit fiend escaped with the news of the fates of the humans, and their new threat in Clan Krinkrak.

Osric at Candlekeep
Over the last few days, when Osric is not at the front or at the Gate, he spends his time at Candlekeep. Those paying attention may note that he is often found perusing the tomes of the library fortress' section on Planar lore. If not there, he is found at the stacks, where his task seems almost Sisyphean.

With attention and resources going to the war, the southern lands security has suffered, with less patrols comes more caravan raids, and highway robbery. Villains and criminals with greater goals in mind have a certain freedom of movement and action is beginning to take place.

One such villain is a necromancer whom has been working her way out of the shadows. Rumors say she is a dark priestess, a high cleric of myrkul here to spread the word of death, it's meaning, and to fear it. With tensions so high and war deaths accumulating many are beginning to hear her words through her actions, and the stories being told around the coast. Luckily many freelance adventurers have begin to counter her actions, but none the less... she is still out there... plotting... moving.... And waiting for another opportunity to strike.

Song in the Night

Unread post by DaloLorn » Sat Jul 20, 2019 4:40 am

Travelers passing near the quarry on the Lion's Way may hear an unusual song sometime during the hours immediately before dawn. The exact origin of the song is not entirely clear yet - those who have chosen to investigate it so far have been unable to see anyone or anything that might be responsible, and the song stopped abruptly as they approached.

Sung by an untrained, but reasonably pleasant feminine voice, the song seems to contain no discernible words. However, there is a certain air of melancholy, loneliness and occasional awe to the melody.

There are also a pair of corpses just outside the quarry: One is a gnoll hunter with several scorched patches on his fur, along with oddly swollen bite marks consistent with a large wolf. The other body, an ogre, doesn't have any scorch marks; instead, the bite marks are accompanied by a large number of thin, shallow cuts, perhaps inflicted by a dagger of some sort. Perhaps two, given the amount of damage inflicted in the time it took the wolf to kill him.

Whoever - or whatever - is behind this, they appear to be capable of putting up a solid fight. Caution may be advisable.

OOC: Characters with sufficient Lore: Religion, Arcana or Planes skills may be able to glean some additional information from the content of the rumor. Send a PM if your character(s) would be interested in speculating on the matter, or poke me in the game (or Discord) if you're planning on venturing out to investigate the site.

EDIT:

As night descends upon the Lion's Way again, the strange song does not return. Whatever was happening there, it seems to have been brought to a swift end.

Posters gave began popping up in the following places: Soubar, the Friendly Arms Inn, and Baldur's Gate in short succession by an unseen hand. They read thusly:

"There's a war breaking out in the Reaching Woods, and it's at the Shrine of Eldath of all places . . . Be warned, anyone who might find themselves at the shrine on the 20th of Flamerule through the 22nd may find themselves at the war to end all wars, the Pun War.

Join us for this waterfall opportunity to test your wordplay against others. This is truly a golden opportunity with much at stake."

((For OOC information, it'll run on the 20-22 of Flamerule (July 20-22) for those three days.

Word spreads from Nashkel that the undead attacks around the city have stopped. As the city makes patrols in the area's around no undead are found, say for a few old rotting bodies of left over undead. It seems from once these creatures came they have returned, and a calm oversets the area. The nashkel guard still have the city fortified as if expecting something, though the lands are safe... for now.

A Note is found left around various places in Baldur's Gate and the surrounding area. Some of them are in Soubar. Some of them are in Gullykin. Some in Beregost. Almost as if the person leaving them was a Teleportation Expert who could cover thousands of miles in only a matter of hours.

Greetings, Citizens and Denizens of the Sword Coast:

I am Professor Azymandeus Faustus of the Thayan Enclave. And I am in need of YOUR support.

Our Khazark, Madame Iskra Golondini, is far too occupied with personal matters in order to be able to effectively and efficiently manage the Thayan Enclave.

And as I and the new initiate Morkar are the only truly active Red Wizards of Thay in our Enclave I am pushing for a PEACEFUL change in Administration. I will not kill my own countrymen. For we are at war with the Baatezu. And all hands are needed in this battle between Mortal and Devil.

Thus: I am making my intentions known publicly of my intent to PEACEFULLY negotiate the stepping-down of the current Khazark of the Thayan Enclave, Iskra Golondini, in lieu of myself taking it over. I am, at present, the Red Wizard with the most Seniority.

And with YOUR help, Baldur's Gate, I CAN sway the tide of public opinion with the Guild of Foreign Trade.

So let us hit them where it hurts them. Their coin-purse.

I, Azymandeus Faustus, commit to selling my Potions, Wands, and Scrolls at only 5% above COST, plus any and all gratuity, to the General Public. The Rate that I usually charge for item crafting to other Thayan Red Wizards and our Knights.

I also encourage the Boycott of all Enclave Goods and Services, with exception to those provided by me personally.

If they will not give me the position of Khazark based upon my seniority and my merit:

Then they will give it to me when their coin coffers run dry.

Sometimes, in order to save one's Species...

...one must face the wrath of their own Government.

Glory be to Mortals, one and all.

Support Future Khazark Azymandeus today!!

--- Professor Azymandeus "Ozzy" Faustus.

Travelers exploring the Ulcaster Ruins may notice that the campsite at the top level has been used recently. There is also a crude drawing on one of the nearby walls: A rendering of a small dragon sitting atop a castle, a sheepish expression on its face as it spews a small jet of fire at a nearby flagpole.

Next to the drawing, the initials "SM" have been scratched into the stone.

In the aftermath of the most recent attack by Sharpteeth Orcs near the Friendly Arms Inn(an attack that was touched off, apparently, when one of the orcs tried to desecrate the monument outside), two petrified orcs could be seen propped up near the entrance to the woods with written warnings left near their feet. Whether or not the petrified orcs were left as a deterrent or a provocation is anyones guess...

There has been another Orc attack just outside the Friendly Arms Inn. Rumor has it, that an Orc Warlock appeared, seeking children for ritual sacrifice, in order to bind some powerful fiend. He was accompanied by a whole host, ranging from lowly grunts, all the way up to savages and spell-casters.

Whether the Sharpteeth Orcs were directly involved seems uncertain. An investigation into their cave immediately after the attacks turned up nothing of significance.

A poster written in Common and Elven can be seen in a few places along the Coast:
Seeking competent guards and artisans for an expedition into and below the Calishite ruins south of Wyrm's Crossing. Payment will consist of five (5) Waterdhavian dragons per person, plus a share of any goods repossessed from the kobolds and other creatures in the party's path.

The mission is slated to begin early on the 16th of Eleint, provided a party containing the following can be assembled:
  • At least one (1) fighter of moderate or better proficiency
  • At least one (1) artisan of moderate or better proficiency
  • No more than five (5) members, including the expedition leader
Interested parties may reach out to Ollandor Ilvanthis at the Blade and Stars inn in Baldur's Gate.

OOC notes:
  • The party will leave the Blade and Stars on September 15, 10:00 UTC.
  • Ollie's payment is measured in hundreds of gp (under the assumption that 1gp IG is ICly actually 1cp), so this works out to 500gp per character, plus loot.
  • Average party level should be somewhere in the 7-11 range. Ollie is currently a solid 9, but will accept characters from 5-13. (So long as it doesn't upset the APL too much.)
  • The 'fighter' role basically needs to be capable of... well, fighting. They'll be expected to either draw or outright prevent enemy fire long enough to defeat incoming hostiles, so I'd advise fighters, monks, paladins, some more combative cleric builds, etc.
  • The 'artisan' role needs to have a high skill level in various crafting skills to pass skill checks. Lore skills may also be advisable for the same reason.

A note is attached to several of Ollandor's posters, as bilingual as the original text:

Due to an unforeseen incident, the expedition will be moved up a day, to the 15th of Eleint.

OOC: The trip is being moved up to this Saturday, September 14. No other changes are expected at this time.
