Though night falls thick upon the city of Baldur's Gate, the half-Elven Jon Smythe finally crossed the threshold of the physical outer walls and emotional inner ones, lighting a lantern both as practical and spiritual benefit. Standing at the north gate, Smythe visage brightens by not only lantern light, but by mood—an energy of anxiousness and curiosity, for years of absence may give rise to surprise in a positive manner, he begins to think inwardly, manifested by an uncontrollable smile arriving outwardly on his face.
A memory of ways of the people of the Gate begins to return, and this memory that after nightfall, so many citizens enter into the inns and taverns to satiate themselves, Smythe seems propelled to inquire and reconnect...his forward path a straight arrow toward the Helm & Cloak feast house.
Three shadows convene in the dark corner of a forgotten basement inside the city of Baldurs Gate. Two of the faceless individuals, A Tiefling and Halfling, turn toward the larger hooded figure, awaiting his instruction.
"Well done with those reports." he says simply before continuing. "Sojak, I need you to continue looking into the individuals you reffered to in your report. I want to know why they were so interested in the affairs of that organization and the people within it. -Every -detail -Sojak" The man emphasizes each word to indicate it's importance. "This is your top priority for now. "
The Tiefling, clad in dark leathers simply nods. "Of course Boss."
With Sojak's reply, the hooded man turns his attention to the Halfling who stands before him. "Slade. Find those documents. Use every contact at your disposal to find out what you can. I want to know who has them, the merchants they implicate, and what it's going to require to procure them. Once you have received all you can on the matter, report to me immediately."
The Halfling grunts with a gentle nod of his head, tugging the top of his hood taught without so much as a whisper.
"Good." The man remarks. "There are a few individuals that will be coming in and out of here on my behalf. See they get what they need."
With that, the masked man turns and ascends up the darkened stairwell disappearing into the cold night air.

An exploration of the the East Gate brings the half-Elven Jon Smythe to the public bulletin board, where an equal amount of gossip and information is obtained by able minds. Though Smythe examines each and every posting, he does not seem to find what he was looking for, and leaves, some time later, neither with notice or having made one himself.
Later still, Smythe arrives within the Merchants League quarters, and speaks with Elad at his long-held station-desk. Smythe speaks aloud, and clearly, to Elad, about any word of sale known to be offered for a small size sailing vessel capable of small scale supply transport. Something in the size of a gableboat, as Smythe does try and explain the details.
"It needs to be in ship shape, Elad...but age need not matter, if it is sturdy upon the water. Easily manned by a few, this type of vessel is. Quite capable of navigating the Chionthar all the way to Iriabor, I am most certain...and coastal runs, should the winds favor my interest. A small start, yes...but what a single half-man can handle on his own, for now...."
Though a familiar face in the Court, the newly appointed Grand Knight of the Radiant Heart steps in to the Palace for the first time under his new title. He is quick to deliver a missive intended for the Grand Narlhelm, to Quincy. He greets the various nobles, merchants, and other dignitaries, once his business with Quincy is completed. Those listening in might hear words like "Flaming Fist", "Foundation", and "Donations".

Strange reports are made throughout the winter season of a figure, ghostly, visiting the homes of the Gate's citizens.
It is said the approach of the aforementioned comes after dark, heralded by a jingle of bells and the echo of hooves
throughout the street. Riddle and rhyme define the experience, haunting revelry endless uttered through all hours
of eve, wherefore stood before windows and doors beholden to rattle. Come morning, there's little trace of
existence, save the disarray of property left in the wake of the unsated, alongside that less easily detected:
lingering traces of whimsical magic.
Inquisitive authorities are oft left a measure bewildered and confused, departing the scene with hair and clothing
colored several shades prismatic. Most citizens recall, if and when questioned, having witnessed an equine skull
afloat with red eyes aglow in the dark closest to midnight. Others are far less superstitious, claiming aught of the
'spirit', decorated with ribbons, is nothing quite so tragic and rather comedic.
The latter add to the rumor that aught of the presence can be appeased, and encouraged leave, with a small gift. (Approved by DM Chant)
A not so subtle woman in red hood and cape stepped through the streets of the city. She spoke at shop keepers with reassured words and wide smile. Pleasentries “Business well?” And “Good Harvest?”
More so she spent time with the poor and orphans. Beggers and the lost where a great deal of time. Coin given with hushed words, she truly was not being subtle. “Anyone looking for work, I’ve a job needing done.”
A young red headed man would be seen at the harbor around the afternoon, carrying a big bag. Hurrying to make a ship that would have sailed without him.
**
When finally aboard the ship he would cast his gaze at the shore, watching Baldur's Gate turn small to the distance.

A redhaired tiefling in blue robes, accompanied by an aasimar lady with green skin can be seen approaching the orphanage at the temple of Ilmater. They would carry writing supplies with them and, if allowed, would carry out classes for the children, teaching them how to read and write.
The tiefling would politely introduce herself as Edelgarde and her friend as Luniel Kumerian. If asked, Edelgarde would explain she is a Scribe of Candlekeep, although she is here for personal reasons and not on behalf of the Keep.

This day, an otherwise regal, moneyed-yet-unused hall held a vigorous conversation between two men...well, one-and-a-half Men, concerning the trade between Lord's Alliance free cities and towns set staunchly against the rise of the Black Network, and, to the extent that faster transportation upon the Chionthar would serve that function, better or best, than in times past.
Jon Smythe and Jonathan the Receptionist, spoke clearly on the subject, with Smythe sometimes speaking louder and his words carried through the room.
"Tis an insidious network, aye...and once that mentality has been held in the mind by a person, it shall never leave, no matter what mask is placed on the outside. But think not solely on this network, Jonathan...think of any moments when trade coin, goods and even persons, need by transported with quickness upon the waters, eastward, toward Iriaebor, to Elturel...and tell me, good sir, what is that form of service worth to the Lord's Alliance?"
From whatever was further discussed or spoken by Jonathan the receptionist, Smythe held a finger to his temple, where physical act mirrored the mental note made.

Over the days that follow, these discussions become surprisingly heated. On one hand, some of the farmers seem convinced that the Order could pay any sane rent they charged; on the other hand, some seem eager to accomodate the knights by charging the minimum price they could afford.
Which group prevails, and how much they request, has yet to be seen - but by and large, the farmers and their families seem acutely interested in the carnival.

Today, the pricing discussion largely quiets down, and a peasant arrives at the Radiant Heart chapterhouse, ostensibly to act as a liaison between the Order and the inhabitants of the Northern Farmlands.
