Rumor says one of the caravans was heavily targetted and would have fallen were it not for bravery of Amos Thistle and his allies. Some say there was more to the attack than it might have seemed at first.

As it happens every winter, most of the denizens of Soubar leave the settlement for the winter and find different places to pass the season in. As it happens, Soubar's situation with food storage isn't quite as bad as Balduran, but it remains low enough for Mags to be using small rationing tactics.

The settlement enters a small, strange kind of lull. Almost an eerie one, as the first snow had begun falling upon the landscape.

Rumours of an unmarked cargo ship arriving at the docks within Baldurs Gate, and offloading a fairly large amount of plain looking coffins, as well as military looking supplies gave rise to questions. It was said that a battle had been waged oversea and these mercenaries were moving their dead overland. Some were loaded into caravans and moved fairly quickly, others left behind....seemingly empty, for some reason.

Once the dock workers realized some of the empty containers had been abandoned, they started up a large bon-fire in the farm lands and burned the excess refuse, wooden boxes, broken wooden coffins that seemed mouldy and empty. They surmised that these folk had left so quickly, because they wanted to dump their excess trash on the poor workers. Of course, this generated a lot of loud complaints at many a tavern to any who would listen. Similar stories of these caravans and appearances slowly begin popping up in many locations across the coast.

Rumour spreads of a trade festival, including local and distant traders, as well as an in person auction will be held in three weeks time in the vicinity of Boareskyr Bridge just outside of Soubar.

No attendees will be barred from entry, but a close watch will be held by forces consisting of mercenary guard, Zhentarim, Blackrose, and the Soubar Millitias to prevent any violence from breaking out. All trade of items and physical goods will be allowed with the exception of slavery.

(( January 23rd at 5:00pm PST this will be ramping up. Anyone can attend regardless of faction, alignment or race. It is an open trade, feel free to set up your own stalls or have a DM help set up one for you to sell your goods. We will also hold a live auction for those that wish to auction of specific rare or valuables items. This event will have DM oversight but the general trade will go on until players decide otherwise or the server resets. ))

Even before the wonder of a trade meeting near Soubar enriched the lands there was another unexpected boon. A small group of warriors returned with lost treasures for the merchants recovered in the serpent hills. One of their number a self proclaimed knight of Tempus wandered among the poorer tents in that community distributing food from two barrels of winter supplies. Later the same person was heard of distributing a similar supply of winter food to the poor of Greenest. It is said that the warrior spent some time ensuring the food went to those most in need and was kept clear of local nobles. 2000 meals were distributed in all.

A half-sapphire dragon could have been seen wandering through the Troll Claws, slaying any trolls and ettins harassing him with ease. Eventually he arrives at the outer gates of Kraak Helzak and enters. He speaks with some of the guards and then goes to the tavern, to wait for his audience with the king.

War!
Image
In the early morning hours, a force of around 1000 troops, Hellriders of Elturel and Red Shields of Scornubel, rode out of Triel to surround Fortress Westmarch. Clearly well prepared, the brief siege lasted less than two hours with most of the garrison at Fortress Westmarch surrendering and being taken prisoner. The army soon rode on north-east, after the fortress had been reinforced by troops from Triel.

At the same time, forces from Iriaebor and Berdusk met up west of Asbravn to form an army of nearly 6000 soldiers, with the clear intent of marching further north.

The time for subtle planning is over. Their goal is now clear: These cities of the Lord’s Alliance march on Darkhold.

Chaos and destruction

At the Boareskyr Bridge today, a grand display of magic could be seen from quite some distance. Random spells cast straight up into the air one after another, by no less than five spellcasters. After some minutes, the spellcasters had ceased, exhausted. Then, the sound of heavy wings.

Image

Now many of the palisades and the northern tower on the western side of the bridge lie in ruins. Some distance north lies what little remains of wyvern and its skymage rider drenched in acidic breath, and a little further north still the shredded corpses of two additional wyverns and their riders.

However, most of the Bridgefort still stands. Perhaps whatever happened there ended peacefully.

War progress!
Image

The mounted army of Hellriders and Red Shields cross the River Reaching, leaving behind several troops to guard the important bridge. They begin setting up camp near Hill's Edge, but it is clear they don't intend to stay very long - their eyes are on Corm Orp and Darkhold.

The substantially larger army of mixed infantry and cavalry moving from Asbravn are still travelling north towards Hluthvar. Progress is slow, but steady and with many patrols moving back and forth between the army and Asbravn, securing logistical lines.

Near Triel, a rumour is a force of around 500 orcs out of Uruk Lurra have attacked outposts of Elturel and Scornubel, but has soon been overwhelmed and outmatched by many of the Hellriders remaining in Elturel and Triel. The defeated orcs who remained after the short battle, had fled back to Uruk Lurra.

A dark night of the war
Image
Having established and secured their logistical lines from Hill's Edge, the Hellriders and Red Shields have moved on to take Corm Orp, where they now have camped, awaiting the southern army.

To the south, the larger army has reached Hluthvar. Rumours say a few scouts from this army have gone missing, having not reported in for days. This army has also begun a small logging operation on the north-eastern edges of the Reaching Woods. However...

Image
This night, darker than most - as the moon and stars are covered by a thick layer of clouds - an even darker shadow, enormous and terrifying, is barely seen on the sky in a brief instant above the lumber camps, before a spray of acid comes from the black being, killing many of the workers and soldiers. As the rays of the sun pierce through the clouds in the morning, a gruesome scene is left behind. A few survivors have retreated towards the army at Hluthvar, though many remain behind, wailing and half-dead from the acid spray of the night.

All around them, the earth, grass and trees are dead, having succumbed to the corrosive liquids and fumes left after them. It is clear that nothing will grow here for many years to come, if ever again.

Dwarven army

An army of between 500 and 600 dwarves have marched out of Kraak Helzak to take up defensive positions, bottlenecking a small cave in the Troll Claws.

The Burning Flyers
Something unusual happens in the night, at the Lords Alliance siege camp, just in front of Darkhold Vale's Gates.

Flyers falling form the sky, bearing the mark of the Zhentarim.

Not long after, Lord Dhelt, Ruler of Elturel and General of the Lords Alliance joined army, orders for such flyers to be gathered and burned.

Not much is being said about what was written on the papers, people talk of propaganda and intimidatory words.

Vampires

Image

For several nights, both in Hluthvar and the warcamps of the Lord's Alliance had seen mysterious deaths. Clerics and paladins had soon begun to investigate only to find that the deaths had been caused by vampires - now more of them. This morning, a fight broke out in a large warehouse in Hluthvar after the vampires' lair had been found by the holy warriors looking for them. A few of the holy warriors fell to the undead creatures in this scuffle, but the more significant numbers lost from the Lord's Alliance had been the victims of the earlier nights.

Rumours say these were all only lesser vampires - spawn of greater vampires. Where their masters had gone, none seem to know.

THE BATTLE OF BRIDGEFORT
The night is shaken by the lights and sounds of war.

Boareskyr bridge is again the theatre of another battle, this time between the few soldiers remaining at Bridgefort, and the mercenaries of the Whitewood Vanguard.

The two dozens bearing the symbols of the Blackrose, Zhentarim and Ebon Blades are defeated by the sudden assault of the Vanguard.

When the sun rises, the fort lies silent, the battle is over. The outer palisade destroyed during the battle, the fort definitely looks like it sustained some heavy damage.

Bridgefort has been taken, but for how long will it last?

Dwarves pull back

As it becomes clear the army of the Zhentarim and her allies have moved elsewhere in the upperdark, the dwarven army of Kraak Helzak stand down and return to their city.
