A young woman near the tower outside of Baldur's Gate carries an envelope addressed to Commander Wren Di'Corvi. She explains she has been paid to look for a member of the Northern Watch to deliver the letter.

The envelope itself is of quality paper, wrapped with a golden ribbon and pressed in red wax with the imprint of a sun upon it.

-Sometime later the Commander returns to Aiden, and offers over a wax sealed envelope. ”Well, Vega- you weren’t exactly wrong, but hopefully she’ll be somewhat comforted by this. Ensure this delivered promptly, I’d not have the Comtesse waiting overlong for our response.”

In the early hours of 14 Tarsakh, 1355 a courier would be seen delivering a letter from the Flaming Fist citadel to the Commander of the Northern Watch. After reading over it briefly, the woman was seen to give a resolute, albeit somewhat relieved smile, before giving a singular nod to the courier. A sending medallion was clutched, and several sendings delivered promptly.

By mid day, members of the Northern Watch could be seen bustling about, packing up their belongings and camps and making their way toward the front line.

Watchman Quintus' belongings consisted of little but when the word came, he made for the winding river basecamp with all he had. Along the road, waited his faithful canine companion who took up tow at his side when they reunite. Upon arrival the Ranger gives the forward camp an approving nod, particularly the guard tower, which he knew he'd spend at least half of his time, if not out on patrols, by a trio of trees he sets a mark and makes a soft bedding and shelter for the road weary animal companion Culaine, then settles into his usual routines..

The fort along the Winding Waters river became a hive of activity as what appeared to be an iron golem approached, depositing two grievously wounded individuals near. The golem shifted form, becoming the tiefling Niyressa Dawncrow, and those she carried were fellow Watchmen- Commander Di'Corvi, and archer Quintus Jhadson. Once back in her natural form, it was evident that the woman herself bore sign of injury and hard fighting.

Word spread of a raiding party, and as injured were brought in, more Watchmen arrived and moved to the barricades to take up arms and turn eyes to the north. Whether they'd seen the last of the raids that night, only the coming dawn could say.

Wren looked down at the long, elegantly curved blade that rest across her palms. Confusion scribed itself across her features, bemused and amused, wondering how she managed to find herself with such a thing. The dwarf named Bjorne, that she simply called Bear, had claimed the thing from a drunk man who's words were more salt than they were Common- insult had been apparently given, blows exchanged, and the blade offered back once apology rendered.

Bear, however, decided to hand the blade to her, and leave it's fate as her decision, before walking off grumbling as dwarves are want to do.

She looked to the salty fellow, watched him vomit onto the dirt, then drink.

She heard him say "Why, I'd never stab a man in the back... Through, but not in."

Whether any apology would be forthcoming, it was clear the man didn't need pointy objects in hand until he'd slept this off- She chose to uphold the dwarf's request, and insisted he offer apology, er it was given back. Not exactly the desired result, and probably not delivered with her best diplomacy, given she was already irate about the zhent lingering nearby. The end result was a belligerently couched question of whether she was going to give it back, and the drunkard instantly drawing another blade and trying to attack her before running off while she was busy trying to dodge, tuck and roll to shadows in defense.

She sighed, and strapped the blade to her horse's saddle pack. She'd told him if he had a pair, he could find her on the front line, otherwise he needed to get his arse back to the docks. Seems like having the pair wasn't the problem- sober brain cells were a different matter altogether.

She wondered if she'd see the damned fool again, and wondered if he'd be better- or worse- when she did.
