A current summary.

It transpires that Knights from Baldur's Gate who had not so long ago struck down so called Shadow Druids deep in the Cloakwood had inspired survivors to convince other woodland creatures to gather and defend the Shadow Druids homeland. These creatures however appeared to have fared no better than the Druids, and fell to patrols of knights. It seems the Knights are gone now along with some Shadow Druids, said to be in hiding below ground.

Some questions remain locally. What are the Shadow Druids up to now ? Will the Knights return? and why were they there at all ? Most thought things had settled and yet there are unanswered questions still. Where did the Shadow Druids get the funds or means to draw other guardians?

Rumours of Orcs spilling out from the Sharpteeth shadow the trees here making it something of a puzzle tree. A Druid too, found dead beyond the forest half way to the Friendly Arm.

Elsewhere the forest thrives, wild and dangerous, growing everywhere. Nature prevails.

Cloakwood snaps back into whatever passes for normality these days. The Knights have long since left to polish their armour elsewhere. The Druids resume their critical control of their part of the wild woods. Notwithstanding the missing letter word circulates the druids had facilitated some cult in a search for lost lore. But other explorers beat them to the search and made off with some ancient books. The cultists fell or fled, the Druids job done returned to their haunts.

The leaves blow in the wind once again.

*In the last eve people in or near the deeper cloak wood could see birds fly off a towering treant with a blighted appearance of rot appeared towering over the smaller trees it was causing fires as it attacked the woods, a trio who appeared out of a rabbit hole fought the blighted treant and when it fell lava exploded out of its remains. As the lava and flame spread the three worked to suffocate the flames and entrench the lava from spreading digging made faster with shape and size altering transmutation magix. A dance one offered to and cleanse any blight from the area that same one spoke to the trees and animals to spread a warning of danger to the other woods of the coast.*

The High Ranger could be spotted in the Cloakwoods with a beautiful peregrine falcon on her arm. The falcon had strips of leather hanging from around her foot. It seemed the pair were working together. Some time later Ashling and the falcon could be seen stepping into a nearby tree. The ranger seemed pleased.

Sigrid stumbled out of the woods and fell to her knees. Blood soaked the neckline of her clothes and spotted her blue scarf. She buried her face in her hands and wept, the sound guttural and primal. Whatever it was she had just experienced, she felt it in the core of her being. After several long moments, she took a few shaky breaths and pulled herself to her feet. With tear-streaked cheeks and eyes that now carried a haunted look, she headed toward the Friendly Arms Inn. Her steps were heavy and slow, but she moved with purpose.

With a deep breath, Osric begins to disassemble his armor.

The vambraces are first, the pauldrons next. Silver mithral glimmers under the rays of sun that pierce the Cloakwood's forest canopy. Leather straps are unbuckled and loosened. Dull thuds sound on the forest floor with each piece of abandoned finery. His chain shirt clinks against its own accouterments as the last vestiges of his carefully-put together ensemble are discarded to the dirt.

His favored dagger - Puck's Tongue - is thrown resentfully into the ground, barely any of its blade not buried.

He has only his smallclothes now. Even under the midday sun, goosebumps form on his skin. No one else is present, none that he can see at least. And even so, his cheeks flush with the thought of what he is about to do.

As he dances, arms flailing, legs tripping over himself in the most ludicrous performance that one could possibly imagine, he begins to sing his questions to the dagger before him:
"Tell me, my dagger, tell me where to find the Blighter, the Lady of Green's Blighter, the one that dared to escape her!"
"Open my eyes, my dagger, cast the light - where to find the Nellek, the Old Soul that can heal the blight!"
"Reveal to me, my dagger, I beg thee - how do we slay the Blighter, this being none seem able to find, to see!"
"Sing to my, my dagger, my patron - how do we heal the Old Soul, our hope to save us from destruction!"

Late in the evening of 14 Mirtul, the High Ranger may have been seen exiting a portal deep in the Cloakwoods. She was accompanied by several others. She looked pale and haggard, her eyes red and her cheeks stained with tears. She crumpled to the ground silently amid the confusion. After just a moment she stood and walked away without a single word. With barely audible words punctuated with a sob, she stepped into a tree.

She wouldn't be seen again for several hours, and when she was seen again she was not alone. She seemed to be supporting a certain green haired druid, her eyes rarely leaving him. She was very attentive to his every need and not her usual self when it came to noticing things going on around them.

A very tall blonde woman, with intricately braided hair and a worn blue scarf, stood at the edge of the Cloakwoods. She worried her bottom lip and appeared to be listening and searching for something. She slowly made her way deeper into the woods as her eyes spotted things unseen by others. She smiled at the newly growing grass and the clear water. She spent some time simply walking through and enjoying the woods and was careful to avoid any remaining blight. She stopped and seemed to have quiet conversations here and there before she headed back out and away from the forest.

*A woman burden with multiple clues , accompanied by a friendly companion set off through the Sharptooth Woods to reach a Temple in Gullykin. They speak with a halfling who grew agitated from their prying. Later in the day, they pursued the route to Greenest that lead them to some Hamlets. Strangers share conversations with warnings and advice. Were the advice heeded? Nay..*

*The pair bold enough pressed on up the hill to reach a ruined Castle. Words of play and trickery allowed them beyond, but just who was it that was tricked?...*

*Deep within the ground following a trail of spilled gold lead them to an encounter. Bold the pair was, or perhaps a mishaps? Towering before them with a blood flaming weapon in hand stood a nine foot tall Horned Devil nearly 900 pounds if not more.*

Image

*After threats, after conversation and the game of words, the pair manage to leave alive, so close to death they were, yet they held resolve and composer standing bold and tall with defiance. However later when it was deemed they were safe, only did the woman collapse to the ground overwhelmed with emotions and fright. The man taking in a deep breath feeling quite lucky he was able to do so.*

With the strange calamity hitting all over the forest, the Guardian of the Cloakwoods and the High Ranger of the Green Enclave can be seen moving swiftly through the forest, assisting the forest dwellers as best they could using what non-magical means they could. Barely stopping to assess the situation, their focus was on injured people, animals, and plantlife, along with putting out any fires that broke out in the forest.

Once the worst seemed to be over, the two weary wardens of nature stopped and took time to assess what was going on, and resolved to try and find what answers they could from the sages and loremasters. A visit to Candlekeep was likely in their near future.

And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die."

Deep, deep in the Cloakwoods the sounds of a lute can be heard occasionally. Sometimes the notes are played by expert hands and the sound is melodious and soothing. . .other times, not so much.

Cloakwood Spiders

Image

Hedge Knight Yuri stumbled upon a mysterious cavern within Cloakwood, clearing it out to the best of his abilities. According to him it was filled with Giant spiders, Clockwork Spider, Cave Spiders, Clockroachs and Giant Scorpion yet the great spider of rumours was not encountered in his three struggles through the cavern.
Image

The man even returned with a party of four including Sane, Nicho and Natariel yet no more information was gleamed. Perhaps the spider simply sensed that the group was far too dangerous to try and ambush. Or it spent its time observing. At best they may have reduced the numbers somewhat.
