Diversion

She drove her curved blade through the Occultist's heart with a rapture, an expression of pure joy on her sculpted features. His eyes lingered on her for a moment more as his sword sang its way back into guard position after deflecting two of the massive Blade Golem's attacks, his free hand already weaving the spell that would destroy it in an instant.

She thought she knew Blackblade, and she was dead wrong. She had been operating under the assumption he had been some sort of bodyguard for the Mistress...that he had been there to keep her, and everyone else, safe. And while truth had many faces, and all of them are masked...that was far from any remotely acceptable version of it.

Even her assumptions about him were far from the mark, but that was somewhat more understandable. To her, like to many of those who had met him, including his future Bregan colleagues, he appeared like a frivolous swordsman, a whimsical mage, a mere executor. Even when he mentioned his profession, they didn't understand their fundamental error. Well, none but one of them, that is...

This was going to be entertaining...

He smiled at her somewhat surprised, approving stare, eyebrows arched as he casually stepped over the smoking carcass that had been his adversary.

Oh, and this is nothing. You'll see...

Aly'drin grinned slyly as she counted her coin after selling the merchandise she "acquired" from the dead bodies of the thralls.

She giggled at a thought ... "someone very special" he says ... a sly grin crosses her full, silky, delicately painted lips as she dropped the coins in her coin pouch... he has No Idea! No one knows and the ones who did, well they won't be talking any time soon... a giggle as she smiles sweetly to the merchant.

She walks away with a dance in her step, singing ...

"And you don't mess with Aly'drin do do do Do do do doo doo do do Do!"

Hound

The Master of Hounds had been abundantly clear.

He had barely spoken, but he didn't need a word more to drive the point across. Apparently, the Lieutenant had tasked him with finding out the whereabouts of this "Master Hlaneld", a former customer of theirs, he said. The Conjurer wanted to - how did he put it...?! Ah, yes - see how he went about it. The very formulation meant they expected little in terms of results, for whatever reason.

They clearly didn't know him very well...

Contrarily to popular kivvil belief, people didn't just disappear in the Underdark, unless the subjects simply died. Especially true for relevant individuals...with social standing, an entourage, assets.
The Endless Night was nothing like the World Above, where one could simply build a fortress or a tower somewhere far removed, spell or trap (or both...) the area, hire a few guards (or raise...or bind them, even...) and simply leave their problems behind.
No amount of remotely manageable power would ensure the safety of a lone manor or even a small fortress, let alone the resupplying problem.

No. Hiding in the Underdark left a trail...no matter how well hidden. And when a trail became especially hard to find, or follow...well, that's when they called him.

Whistling a haunting tune, he calmly made his way to the School of Magic.

If you want to find a merchant, talk to his best customers...

Tainted

She didn't realize what she was asking for.

He dropped his mask. The broad grin melted, his expression became cold, his voice blank. He stepped towards her, so close he could have kissed her, but there was nothing flirtatious in his attitude, nothing alluring, no playful invitation. He delicately lifted her chin, so that his gaze could lock into hers, and she let him, almost shocked at his touch. He had never touched her before.

His words were measured, calm, in stark contrast with the urgency of the message, its finality. Any and all involvement with the one she sought meant death. Her two predecessors over the last two and a half centuries were either dead, or as good as. That jaluk was tainted, cursed by the shadows themselves...they clung to him like a ravenous, possessive lover, striking back with vengeful fury at anyone getting too close.

As he spoke he could see the doubt in her eyes, her lips forming the questions he could not answer...the questions he would not answer. She claimed she desired to live, and yet she might end up deliberately choosing death, or worse, for the sake of something their kin weren't even supposed to know in the first place, something forgotten for long enough it might as well not have existed in the first place.

So why save her? Why even try?! His station and skill level granted him all the power and comfort he could wish for...why not just watch her feel her way forward into the Dark, towards whatever gruesome end awaited her?

Because I can.

Making Friends

He vaulted over the warrior's thrust, landing just as he swung Mournblade in a deadly arc, decapitating the Kanaraun Soothsayer before she could finish the spell aimed at Galawyn.

I bet you didn't foresee that, oracle...

Falling into a low stance to dodge the slash from his remaining opponent, now behind him, he changed his sword grip, stabbing backwards with an upward inclination. A satisfying crunch and the gurgle coming from the fighter's throat confirmed what he already knew: he had pierced his armor, and the heart beneath it. Soon enough, he would realize his own death and collapse to the floor.

As he pushed himself away from the falling corpse, he seamlessly wove a devastating positive energy attack, utterly deleting his companion's own adversary from existence and ending the confrontation in a blinding burst of white light. Galawyn slowly turned around, mild annoyance and begrudging respect mixed with...something else in his expression:

"That was a little hard on the eyes..." he remarked, lowering his longsword.

"Never as hard as it was for him." he grinned, pointing at the pile of dust that had been the Kanaraun Warlord.

His companion looked at him intensely, before asking "Is Zar'Vyrae's request the only reason why you came here, to Sshamath?" in a tone that left very little room for doubt, and conveyed in no uncertain terms his opinion on the matter.

Kalan'd'yrr shrugged, spreading his arms as he replied neutrally "...would you believe me, if I said "no"...?"

Like Galawyn, he, too, was fairly certain of the answer.

Smiling then taking three cleansing breaths and attempting to gather herself... The pretty Bardess nearly floats into Gloura's Wings her steps so light. She heads to the bar ordering a glass of the finest wine and lowers her voice speaking in a foreign tongue for some time to the rare and delicate deceivingly powerful fey of the Underdark until other patrons head up to the bar within hearing distance.

Making Enemies

The unassuming-looking middle-aged faern Vin'del walks into the Gloura's Wings for a drink and happens to one of the few acquaintances he actually enjoys speaking to, named Nawiel, sitting at the counter listening to one of the newer (and few) drow yathrin in the city as she speaks. Vin'del respectfully and quietly approaches the two. He greets Nawiel. . .but the yathrin, named Ssin'verin d'ElghinOrbenn, tells Vin'del, "Silence, jaluk!".

Vindel get angry and says to Ssin, "Who the vith do you think you are to tell me to be silent. . .jabbress!?", obviously feigning respect.

Ssin says, "Shall I show you?"

"I don't care. . .jabbress!" with more feigned respect.

Ssin'verin d'ElghinnOrbben then says,"I am friends with the head of the conclave and then some".

Vin'del replies, "Oh, you are, hm? Don't get your hopes up too much about that! That can change rather quick. . ."

He then says to Nawiel, "My apologies, Nawiel. It is just that I will NOT stand for some spider-kissing bitch telling me to be silent, especially for no good reason!
Nawiel, nodding and grinning says, "Understandable. I just find this to be quite a fun situation."

He then says to Ssin'verin,"Telling a male to be silent is a very good way of making friends here in Sshamath, jabbress", with obvious sarcasm.

Vin'del and Ssin'verin exchange a few more unpleasant words with each other, then he catches himself being angry and slowly inhales, then exhales to help himself calm down.

Another young jaluk comes walking into Gloura's, named ValenKar. He sees the tension between Vin'del and the yathrin. Not surprising, he takes Vin'dels side, showing some disrespect for the yathrin as well, and he and Ssin have some biting words with each other.

Nawiel speaks to Vin'del before he was about to storm out of Gloura's and she motions to him to follow her, which he does, so he can get out of sight of and away from the yathrin.

They make their way to southern Sshamath to the Stonestave and speak there a while about things.

However, Vin'del knows now that he and the yathrin at Gloura's will likely fight each other and he plans his strategies and ponders his possibilities for what he is sure will be an eventual encounter with the yathrin in the tunnels away from the guards. . .
