The wheel keeps turning,
and we with it.
Lit candle stands alone against the nightsky,
the meager light is mostly drowned by the vastness of space,
yet — there it is,
flickering as the air moves,
persisting.
The detail can be seen up close,
but from a far,
in the darkness,
it is as bright as the stars,
calling.
Even smallest things
can change
what is to come.

When eyes are clouded by red mist
and reason is tossed aside,
who do you think you are?
When tongue is wagged with venomous intent
and spit flies about,
who do you think you are?
When spite is all that is known
and temper flares like red hot flames,
who do you think you are?
When control is lost
and hurting is the goal,
who do you think you are?

A moment, a breath,
a lingering sensation on the back of a hand
of the fleeting touch before,
a presence, a look,
a beating heart, a memory.
Like the warmth of a summer night
missing
when the leaves change color
and fall.
Things basic and common,
moments easily set aside
in favor of others.
Small instances
in the grand wheel of life,
the significance of them
fully revealed
only
in the absence of them.

When the wind finally turns,
and instead of a biting howl sending icicles through your skin,
you are greeted with a warm breeze
scented with the promise of summer fields.
The world turns bright green,
sprinkled with dots
here and there
in all the colors of the rainbow.
The sea is yet cold and the sand feels cool
but it is refreshing to dip toes into the waves.
A bridge of the moon
extends across the dark body of the water.
Change of the seasons,
beauty of the moments.

Cold touch,
not the warmth of the living.
Still slumbering reach
meeting something smooth,
cold as bone.
Bone?
Suddenly there is a road
and I am running.
I can hear spells
and the rattling of bones.
Too many.
Chased like a prey.
To stop is to die.
I keep running.

The wind sings a solemn song.
Touch of the breeze is gentle.
It carries the memory of the days before.
The setting sun paints the horizon in shades of red.
This night is a dark one and with it comes the cold.
The gentle breeze has changed.
A howling wind plays tunes on the cliffside,
waves crashing against the rocks and adding to the harmony.
A lonely nightingale gives voice to the requiem.

Tranquility in the twilight. The soft blanket of the night tugging us all in. Darkness is not all dread and shadows. There is different kind of beauty within the starlight hours.

There is silence, calmness and anticipation. Meditation and prayer – it has been four nights. It is akin to holding one’s breath but it is time to breathe. I hear the crackling fire nearby, feel the heat sifting with the wind. The gentle caress of the summer breeze against the skin. Coolness of the night.

The mark has been slow to heal with the ingredients at hand but it does no longer look angry nor is it festering. It will likely leave a scar.

The sky was torn asunder.
Chaos reigned,
leaving unimaginable destruction
in its wake.
Flaming rocks descended,
magic rampaging across the land.
In the midst of it all
there was a silence
like no other before.
Silence of the Gods.

Prayers were not answered,
reaching hands were grasping mere air.
The people were abandoned,
navigating the chaos blindfolded
and left in the dark.
The strong have the power,
the edge of the blade cutting deep.
Who pays the price?

A shriek pierced the air,
touching every mind
like a tidal wave crashing against rocks.
The final cry of denial
of the Goddess of magic
was sent across the world
before she perished.
The impact wreaking random havoc
in the minds thus touched.
Nor was the physical world
left untouched.
Whiplashes leaving sore wounds behind.
The reason
for the chaos consuming the world
was revealed.
The gods have been punished
and thrown into the world of mortals.
Who will be left standing?

A breath held
was finally released.
A rush of tingling wave
washing over.
The wait was over.
Akin to a new moon,
it heralded a new beginning

Memory of yesterday
Embracing softness of seasons gone by
Scent of forget-me-nots lingering in the night
Moonlight dancing around shadows
Song of dawn to come
Strawberry wine forgotten, but not alone
Spinning colors of the rainbow
Stillness of the undisturbed water
Is it all
real?

Suddenly the light dims.
An avalanche of
menacing storm clouds fill the sky.
A shadow swoops over.
Searing pain on the arm
as if it was cut by a sharp metal
but it is fire.
Invisible blade of lava
tracing markings on the skin.
Cruel artist with a wicked brush.
Blood pools in the wounds,
hungry to fill the gash.
Red rivulets trickle down,
spilled wine on snow.
Everything swirls around,
spiraling into black smoke…

…drip, drip, drip.
Sharp rocks underneath.
Drip, drip, drip.
Everything hurts.
Drip, drip, drip.
Why?
Drip, drip, drip.
Be quiet!
Drip, drip, drip.
Nothing makes sense.
Drip, drip, drip.
It’s not water.
Drip, drip, drip.

One, two, three …,
seventy-four, seventy-five …,
hundred-forty-eight … thousand …
It does not stop.
People seen are not the people known.
Faces are distorted,
their words make no sense.
The nails scratching the arm are mine at least.
Or are they?
The world keeps on tilting
but it won’t turn over.
How are you climbing vertical stairs?
I’ve been walking this path forever,
does it not lead anywhere?
Where am I?
Who am I?
When… am I?

Average is not universal. It is local. It is always measured against something. What is average somewhere, can be vastly different elsewhere.

The difference is displayed in myriad ways as one moves from a place to another. Some changes are subtle while others present themselves in a more drastic manner. It is not just the way people dress but it is in every detail of their lives.

Most people I know are not average. They all have features, a few or many, that set them apart. But average or being average can be a blessing. It comes with advantages that one might not think of or even know to appreciate.
