Born to a merchant family of Westgate, Evander was the eldest children of three. Unfortunately, a tragedy has hit the household as his brother died of a sickness not long after his birth, leaving him only with a sister, Ophelia, to which he developped a special bond. They were not only family but closest friends.
At a very young, the boy started showing sign of magic under the form of mere cantrips. They manifested themselves as ghostly whispering in the middle of the night and flickering candle light. The results were more frightening and led the family to believe that their home was haunted, but after investigations it was clear that Evander was developping an affinity to magic. The origins unknown to his parents, he was considered to be "gifted" by Mystra.
Reaching the age of 8, Evander was petitioned to become one of the ward of a local noble, Lord Valderon. He learned to read and write in the company of the squires and the life at court introduced him to diplomacy, letter and poetry.
He continued to develop his affinity to magic, but it was never constant. The spells manifested themselves naturally rather than intense research and learning that most wizards do. Focusing and controlling his new known abilities became his only hobby and in fear of hurting others, the young man was rather lonely and soon fell into depression. During these dark years, the young man tried to find his place in the world. Vulnerable, he was led to believe that his abilities should be used for power by inspiring fear. While retaining morality and a personal code of conduct, Evander used his magic in the service of Lord Valderon.
In the year 1352, aged of 24, Evander petitioned a personal and indefinite leave of Lord Valderon's court to which was granted. Sailing to Suzail and travelling by caravan through the land, the young man arrived in the desolation that is the farmlands near Baldur's Gate. From there, his journey begun...
