A Pryat's Prayers

Unread post by Tsidkenu » Sat Dec 22, 2018 6:10 am

My Lord Helm, I pray for your blessing
on the church in this place.
Here may the faithful find salvation,
and the careless be awakened.
Here may the doubting find faith,
and the anxious be encouraged.
Here may the tempted find help,
and the sorrowful comfort.
Here may the weary find rest,
and the strong be renewed.
Here may the aged find consolation
and the young be inspired;
through your eternal Vigilance.

My arrest is now over and I am able to write again in you, my dear journal. While I had expected no less than what transpired, the bitterness remaining in the hearts of the populace once the truth was made manifest continues to burden me greatly, both in body and in spirit. A few have found their trust in me, but my trust must not waiver; I must believe that this whole process has been worth the time and expense.

For those who have not, it is a more difficult task. My heart recoils from the dishonour and ignominy perpetrated in my name, but I must stand firm and vigilant to the task at hand. I cannot allow myself to be poisoned like some have, falling down into the depths this elusive imposter seems to have intended for them. I reacted brashly to the man that had visited me in the prison when he expressed his intention to enthrall me and discover the 'truth' from me that he believes I hide. I pity his blindness. Selune, enlighten his eyes in the dark. Lathander, renew them in the day. I am but weak and mortal flesh; my heart cries out for deliverance. My voice is not enough: I need the divine spark that only comes from unadulterated faith.

My Lord Helm, shield me about on every side.

Give me, O Lord Helm, a steadfast heart,
which no unworthy affection may drag downward;
give me an unconquered heart,
which no tribulation can wear out;
give me an upright heart,
which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside.
Bestow on me also, O my Lord Helm,
understanding to know you,
diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you,
with all of my being.

I have met a Lathanderite knight-sister in my wanderings of freedom. I spoke to her of my deep burden, this poison that surrounds the mere mention of my name, the distrust and the shame I feel, despite being wholly innocent. Even my own brothers in the faith have expressed their utter disdain of me, despite being wholly exonerated by the Watchknight. I asked for prayers. She said I must find the renewal, the newness, the fresh beginning that the Lord of the Dawn offers forth to the entire world enlivened by his unfailing light, dawn by dawn. So let it be. It was moving prayer, almost to tears. They come now as I pen these words.

I am not afraid of the truth. Why are they?

Helm,
in your sight nations rise and fall,
and pass through times of peril.
Now when our land is troubled,
be near to judge and save.
May leaders be led by your wisdom;
may they search your will and see it clearly.

Apparently I had been missing for more than twenty days. That my last report was that long ago seems agreeable with the testimony given me by members of Nashkel's Everwatch who had been commissioned by Overblade Martin Valdore to find out exactly what had happened to me, the details of which are fortunately void in my memory. Of more concern is the cultist responsible. It will be trying times ahead.

Oh that you would bless me indeed,
and enlarge my borders,
and that your hand might be with me,
and that you would keep me from evil,
that it may not grieve me!

A routine patrol east of Wyrm's Crossing had me lost until I found a quaint village kingdom, Greenest, in a verdant winter valley. I met a Luckbringer of Tymora there. Kind fellow, owns his own merchant company but seemed rather pessimistic and dismissive about possible security arrangements for his caravans. He did mention two larger companies, one Golden Wheel of Amn and Darius Holding Company of Baldur's Gate, who would be more inclined to protecting their assets than his own company was. Also mentioned brigands raiding north of The Forest of Sharp Teeth, a matter which I intend to investigate more fully at a later time.

Behold our shield, O Helm; look on the face of your servant!
For a day in your house is better than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my god than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For my Lord Helm is a high wall and shield; he bestows favour and honour.
No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O Helm, our god, blessed is the one who trusts in you!

My oath to Djawalla al Shemeshel has been discharged, having now made my donation, requests and supplications to the Lord of the Dawn in the Song of the Morning here in Beregost. My journey was most blessed for I had the delight of meeting one of the Dawnlord's charges, Kiera, a young novice in her faith, and her fencer acquaintance, Jacho. Unfortunately I could not journey with them further, my eyes and heart being now set upon Nashkel, The Place Where His Feet Stood. May my Lord give me opportunity to do good along my way, and deliver me from the hands of evil.
