The image is supposed that even as I hit and damage him, as you can see in the combat log, he's still "uninjured". And that screenshot was captured at the end of the battle (I eventually resorted to trapping him in a room, behind a door, so he wouldn't aggro any more) so I had already fought him for quite some time at that point.
