The Seaward Threat

Unread post by DM Spartacus »

Keeping trade routes open has become an important consideration to the City, and given an elevated status at a recent Duchal Court. Keen observers noted the appointment of a new Admiral and city officials to promote Privateer activity in defence of the City and it's sea routes. With the Dukes driving this initiative a fresh flurry of cash is anticipated, and ships are available.

The City fleet stands seaworthy at 7 ships

The new addition is growing under Admiral Yossen Yongfall, a successful Pirate hunter once in the service of Amn, and already vetted by agents of the Gate. His dock administration support is headed up by Filias Fixxalot

This fleet is expected to operate independently keeping sea lanes open and hunting down pirates and other troubling forces.

They have made efforts to secure existing shipping and stand ready to make them available when donations arrive dockside.

They invite interested parties with their own ships to present themselves for City Service, a reasonable war time package is available to fund operations and repairs. The City reserves the right to all goods captured but expects to be generous to it's supporters.

Interested Captains and donors should make themselves known to the Admiral in the first instance

Things have moved with great pace for the Admiral and a sizeable fleet is now to hand or on it's way. Crews are being hired, and expected to be supported or led by adventuring citizens, providing a no cost service working on a no win no fee basis. It is declared that missions will provide a one off contract, one that favours the City but is likely to be generous to the successful participant.

Citizens are encouraged gather their forces to offer up grouped applications, and to suggest or not, missions of use.

The city acknowledges the vital and very generous donations from the following citizens and groups:

Adelaide 1 million, DHC 2 million, Badgers 3 million

The Fleet

Ship being built, a purpose built fast Frigate, name:

From Amn, an even slower moving but strong and well defended caravel, (the owning company is selling off it's fleet) name:

From Moonshae a larger slower Caravel type ship, with some cargo area turned over to a accomodation. name:

From Waterdeep a slow moving Caravel with maximum cargo space and limited seaworthy build used for coastal runs. name:

From Neverwinter a faster moving Caravel, with slightly reduced cargo. name:

From Baldur's Gate a supply ship, not best suited for any military deploment. name:

It is rumoured other indvidually owned ships may be made available too.

The Admiral plans a naming ceremony shortly and invites those who donated and others to consider names to make themselves available.

With the Flaming Fist and their citizen army on the march somewhere to the north Baldur's Gate is in reflective mood and those that remain feel endangered and open to rumour. Rumour reaches them of Necromancer nonsense in Nashkel, panic buying in the markets, pirates from Amn, Devils within. A lone Knight stalks the City reassuring the public pointing out the many resources still within the City. The Admiral departs with five ships hunting pirates to the south. He leaves behind a single ship and rumour has it this is awaiting a diplomatic mission and some citizen volunteers to enhance an anti pirate sweep.

Admiral Yongfall's fleet returned recently from it's anti piracy sweep to the south reporting a clean sweep, no pirates to be found. There is little doubt this was carried out in conjunction with the recent move north by the FF and likely demonstrated the City's ability to remain vigilant to more than one threat. Yongfall declared the mission a success. There were however some concerns that they had seen no pirates, and also about the quality of crews aboard had they actually encountered pirates.

Elsewhere a single ship of the fleet returned from the Moonshae with a stronger crew aboard, Dwarves from KH, and seasoned adventuring seafarers. They brought with them Dwarves from the Moonshae and a more secretive cargo which was unloaded and transferred to the FF. A second cargo accompanied the Dwarves to KH.
