The Amn-Gate War (1347 DR)

Unread post by Maecius »

[ BEREGOST, DAY 1: DAWN ]

The sergeant walked swiftly from soldier to soldier, offering quiet words of encouragement as the Flaming Fist contingent crouched behind their barricade.

"Hold the line, men. Reinforcements will be arriving soon. Hold the line."

His words sounded hollow, even to his ears. The dust cloud from the south was only growing bigger, and the sound of marching feet began to grow deafening. Beregost was already being evacuated, but not fast enough. They had not expected Amn to make its move so soon.

"Whatever it takes, hold the --"

The sergeant twists violently to the side before collapsing to the ground, an arrow in his throat. As his men hunker down even further against a rain of arrows, they begin to voice soft prayers or mutter dark curses, trying to find their courage as they prepare to face a numerically far superior foe.

[ BEREGOST, DAY 1: MORNING ]

Amniale Merrywhick, a halfling with the Heralds, frowns over his journal with a heavily-furrowed brow. Looking down on the burning town of Beregost from the bluffs to the north, Amniale slowly writes his observations:

The Flaming Fist barricade has been broken and Beregost has become a killing zone. Soldiers from both armies are clashing in the streets. A patrol from the the Friendly Arm Inn has recently arrived to assist the Flaming Fist, but they will need more reinforcements if they are to stand a chance against the Amnian army.

Currently several officers just north of Beregost are hiring mercenaries, adventurers, and sellswords to aid in holding against Amn. It looks like right now that's all they can do: Hold. Unless something dramatic happens, I can't see Baldur's Gate winning in Beregost.

Aside from the fighting proper, refugees are streaming out of the town. Not as many as you'd expect, though. That worries me and I fear for the worst.

I don't know how this is going to turn out: But I will do what I can to record the unfolding events.

[ BEREGOST, DAY 1 ]

There are rumors that the mysterious figure known as "The General in the Dark" has sided with the Fist in this war. A Flaming Fist officer named Meredith Silvershield claims that the forces of the General in the Dark freed her from Amnian captivity. She could not identify her rescuers; it was dark, they were masked, and they gave no names.

[ NORTH OF BEREGOST, DAY 1 ]

Thanks to The General in the Dark, Meredith managed to warn the generals about the amnish troops coming from the north, flanking the flaming fist's camp.

The Flaming fists under the leadership of Moruene fought bravely, but were helped by many adventurers, which made them victorious. The "Bridge battle" was won that day. For how long will the line last?

[ THE SWORD COAST, CANDLEKEEP, DAY 1 ]

A few cowled wizards can be seen teleporting near weave users. It seems like most spellcaster are being offered to buy a license to legally cast spell, as the cowled wizards think it's only a matter of time that these lands become Amnish.

In Candlekeep, the Elf Laitae along with the first reader Tethtoril makes it clear with the cowled wizards that they won't cooperate. The first reader threatens the cowled wizard and orders him to go away from Candlekeep. The Cowled Wizard obeys.

[ BEREGOST OUTSKIRTS: AMNIAN ENCAMPMENT, DAY 1 ]

The Flaming Fist enlists a group of adventurers to participate in what amounts to a suicide run on a heavily entrenched forward position of the Amnian army. The Flaming Fist are taking heavy damage from Amnian artillery fire and they needed the catapults destroyed A.S.A.P.

Running through a hail of catapult fire, the strike team attacks the Amnian encampment. Although they take very heavy losses, they manage to disable or destroy all of the catapults. On realizing this, the Amnian forces sound the retreat, destroying their munitions before they go so that the Flaming Fist cannot make use of them.

[ TRADE WAY NORTH, DAY 1 ]

A Flaming Fist officer hired a handful of adventurers to break up a bandit blockade on the Trade Way North, as the Flaming Fist did not have the manpower to spare for the task.

The adventurers approached the war profiteers and commanded they leave by order of the Flaming Fist. The conversation soon went downhill and a fight broke out. The blockade and the bandit camp were both burned to the ground.

The Trade Way is again open for travel and trade.
