What do you think about this?

Unread post by ctothep »

Hello BGTSCC!

So this is something that has been floating around in my head for a while and i would like to know if people would be interested in something like this. I think it would add an interesting way for people to enjoy PvP while at the same time offer a reason for their characters to actually do PvP. Atleast if your character values gold or wants to put his skill to the test :S

So what am i talking about? Glad you ask!

We all know these arena fighting events that are hosted by different guilds from time to time. They are quite fun to attend even if you're just watching but at the same time it is quite a bit of work to organise these(i imagine) which means these arent happening so often. What i have in mind is similiar but at the same quite different.

Imagine if you could run up to an auctioneer like mudds (but a PC) but instead browsing through item auctions and such you would be able to buy 1on1 fights, or auction your own fight. Fights that have been put for auction are sorted into lvl brackets (to avoid loopsided fights). There would be no gold limit on how much you could auction a fight for. Once a fight is bought both the buyer and seller would be informed and a date / time will be arranged. The place for the fight will be chosen randomly somewhere on the server.

As for the fight itself, rules could look something like this:

- The fight will be overwatched by 1-2 (depending on lvl bracket) of third party to enforce rules
- You come alone, if not you are expelled and banned from any future fights
- Before the fight both hand over their entry fee to third party
- Winner is decided in a best of five
- Both fighters start unwarded
- Before every round a 1d10 will be rolled, higher value can ban an ability of his choice for the coming round (ex. Expose Weakness, HIPS, a certain spell, Divine Might, etc.)
- A round lasts until one of the two is dead. Winner has to raise the dead one, if you dont you are expelled and banned from any future fights
- The one who wins three rounds first gets both entry fees minus a 5% cut for third party

Being able to take part in this should be easy to do. You meet up with a PC in soubar tavern for example and can purchase fights or auction your own. It should be easily accessible. Discrecy would be valued very highly so that even PCs that would be frowned upon by taking part in fights for gold could take part. So if you want to be anonymous you buy / sell a fight with a nickname and a disguise, etc. Fights being auctioned wont mention a name aswell.

Of course this could only work if people take part so i am wondering if this would be something you are interested in? Any thoughts?

Cheers!

I'm not sure if this is scriptable or not, I suck at scripting either way lol. But I can see two ways either message board of "Challengers" Like some Ronin waiting to show his skill.
Or... ctothep you can become the Don King of BGTSCC! That would be some fun RP! :D

To be honest, my experience with "arena fight" events were more on a negative side. They tend to explode into "massive event" which cause server-wide lag, and tend to be dull most of the time.

A fight club style system you seem to propose may be interesting. It would be great if both sides could bet money, and the winner would walk away with the prize cash. Not sure about "buying the fight". For example, someone could list themselves as a being available to challenge and list minimum amount of gold a challenger would be required to bet (both sides would have to bet the minimum amount).

It'll be probably very hard to properly script this, though.

Fight Club! Thats the word ive been looking for!

I dont think it would be good if the process is automated, even if possible. It kind of leaves a LoL matching system feel that i dont think would fit. It might drift into OOC too much. I had a PC organisation in mind that would arrange these fights and enforce the rules.

Seems like an overly complex idea. I mean all the auctioneer would do is allow person A to post a fight and person B agree to it. This is easily done here on the forum. Setting up date and time, referees, and betting is all player side in your example.

Edit: maybe a subforum is an easier idea? Also shouldn't this be in suggestions?

Well, the way I see it, it could be fun if one fight involves a small audience. Say... 6..10 people max, including combatants. That could be fun, because nwn2 shines at this scale, and I think some of my characters could even participate.

If it devolves into a "mass events" with 30+ people present, then i'd probably skip that. At this kind of scale it is very hard to keep track what is going on, and mass events tend to turn into a mess.

Overall, sounds like it could go both ways - could be turn into something cool, or maybe not.

The reason I mentioned automation is becaus I think it could be interesting to keep the roster of participants, number of victories, etc, and doing this manually might be a bit messy. Then again, maybe I'm wrong about it.

There would be no crowd.

The two fighters and 1-2 PCs to enforce the rules. That is all.

There are a few fighting pits and arenas around the server, such as in the Roaringshore tavern, the BG arena, etc.

This is something that could easily be organized by players, and has been in the past. DMs might get involved if you ping them the day of, and they're around and free to assist. If you made it like a weekly or biweekly event, you could probably get a group of regulars to show up over time -- but it would require some legwork and organization on your end.

I like this idea best so far. Good place to arrange matches and duels.

I don't see any need any scripting requisites sans prevention of death whilst inside the arena. Everything else can be tailored to by players.

I posted a suggestion for a new subforum here viewtopic.php?f=444&t=56960
