Question about PM Summons

Are they capped at 20 HD? My Elite Vampire has essentially become obsolete in the late epics. In the Underdark you're dealing with creatures who have high Spell Resistance (Oghrann & Drider) as well, so it's especially difficult being a caster who somewhat relies on his summons.

Summons are not supposed to be enough in epics, much less late epics !

Your summon is one tool in your arsenal. If you expect to AFK while invisible and allow your summon to XP grind for you, you'll be disappointed. If you buff your summon as well as throw spells to support, it will be an adequate tank for a decent period of time.
