ITEM: armor, colors

Unread post by Blackhorizon »

There are some pieces of armor where colors are rather diluted. There might be others but I looked into cloth and what was available for an elf. Would it possible to widen the color range?

Tint2: blue
Tint3: yellow

Here's a sample how the colors usually appear or at least with wider range of hues.

Colors on the dress are very faded at best. The green part on the shirt is always green.

This robe is odd. The hood and the "shirt part" uses the same tint but the colors are vastly different. The skirt and the "scarf thing" going up around the neck uses the tint3 but as the base is hued already it comes out differently as well.

Diluted. Can't get dark/bright colors.

Yeah I've noticed this same deal with the robe Nedrin wears. I ended up going with like 5 lightness and 50+ saturation because anymore lightness and it looked cartoon-like. It'd be nice to have the full range of colors available, but I also understand how its a lot of work to go through every piece of armor in the game and fix its tintability. I think whoever originally made them tintable didn't do a very good job, but rest assured if the Staff get a chance they will fix this for ya. I know PaulImposteur has done this for a few armors already upon request so if this thread doesn't get any replies from staff maybe just PM him. He's a busy dude, but when he has the chance he can fix it.

This is one of those nice to have things. I, for one, work with what is there currently and wish there would be more options. I understand that some models might have a base tint that changes the color but I can work with that. Mostly it is the availability for larger range of lighter or darker. Darker colors are probably more common that light ones on this setting. Metal colors excluded.

I'd quite like to see this dress made fully tint-able. It's a pretty model but the green neckpiece completely ruins some colour combinations.

These Three should now take colors better. I already implemented them server side for this or a future update.

That's neat! Is there anything you can do about the green necklace though, make it change colour maybe along with the skirt part?

The skirt and sleeves I kept the 'fading' tint because I don't like veering to far away from the vanilla design. The necklace I made ever ever so slightly more brown, then de-saturated it making it closer to gray in color, while not looking unnaturally absent of color.

I'll try to get screenshots of this one, since Over-rides should work server side.
It's low res, but you get the gist.

Oh wow, that made a huge difference actually. Thank you! :) Though I gotta ask, are these tintmap fixes only for elves?

Tint maps fix it for everyone, that uses this model, not just elves.
