As per this discussion: Ban the use of non-english languages
I think it would be a good idea to be able to switch to a preferred/native language so whenever you're not using the language tool the preferred/native language will be the default language you speak in. Also there are a lot of issues with not being able to do this, for instance one of them is that it forces every player to use the language tool every time they're going to speak natively. I know people can just say that since they're the only around (to their knowledge) they can just retcon it and say it was in a different language or they can write the language: then the message - Example: Elven: "The Message". But the problem with this approach is that if there other people nearby who don't speak this language they might assume it was just in common or they ignore the language part metagame on it. Some players seem to think that they should use third party sources for languages and force other players that play the same race or who speaks the language just to be able to communicate properly, which detracts a lot from the fun of the game because requires alot of extra time and effort to learn this language - and there is a language tool in the game, its there to be used. There is a lot of good reasons for implementing this, where this was just a few of them.
I don't know if this would be difficult to implement but it makes a great deal of sense why this should be in, and without it its quite the hassle for those that are playing as a different race or ethnic group where they find themselves to be communicating more in that language than in common.
Suggestion to change default communication language.

Re: Suggestion to change default communication language.
No thanks. We had this in 2016 after the 'Big Update' and it was removed soon after. It is -not- fun to type in English, have it come out as Undercommon and then have to look in the combat log for the translation (which, as Hoihe pointed out in the other thread, quickly becomes a communications impasse if said log is disabled for a dm event or being flooded with combat text).
If folks are too lazy to ask and/or specify their spoken languages in RP, thats kinda their problem. There is nothing wrong with the current language system as players can choose to use, or not use it, as they see fit.

If someone found a way to make translations appear in a different area than combat log, it'd be awesome. Like, make it so that when you mute combat log, you still see translations.Tsidkenu wrote:No thanks. We had this in 2016 after the 'Big Update' and it was removed soon after. I would love for translations to be sent to the chat log

If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.

Now I can't be certain, but I do think it could be possible to script this in, like for instance if a flag for default chat language was changed is present then it should output that translations from that specific language to chat log, or something similar. Though scripting this would probably be far from simple and it would require a great deal of set up to make it work, but overall I think this could be doable.Hoihe wrote:If someone found a way to make translations appear in a different area than combat log, it'd be awesome.
