Account XP Insurance Store (AXIS)

Unread post by Thin Ice »

Lets face it, once you are at level 30 you feel like "what's the point"...right?!

I suggest, after level 30, any experience you would have gained go into an "Account XP Insurance Store" or, AXIS. An AXIS is a store of experience that can be used on for any other character on your account.

How should the AXIS be used? Some possibilities:

1. Can be redeemed during resurrection:
"You must have done something significant in another life, your experience loss has been offset by XXXX amount. Total XP loss: YYYY."

2. Can be redeemed during RCR:
"You may apply any remaining experience in your AXIS funds towards your RCR."

I'd like to add a third option:

3) Use the AXIS as a pool of XP. From this pool of XP, you can bestow upon another player up to a max of 5k of it. They gain this XP the next time they get an RP XP tick. This max of 5k resets every 10 hours.

In otherwords, you get to loot epic areas for epic loots and pass the experience to other characters of yours. You could argue that the experience gains are not that great, but there are builds that can kill certain mobs on this server at surprisingly high rate. The sheer quantity of kills over shadows the quality of the experience reward per kill.

This would be the most ideal solution.

Why does my character progress faster from running some random errands or whacking a bunch of blue goblins than if she went and tracked down a master swordsman and spent time under their tutelage?

The ability to grant any kind of larger bunch of XP to someone else would help facilitate master-apprentice roleplay.

I like the idea, but perhaps the reward should be gold instead of exp.
30's need rewards for good RP and for killing stuff (they also need penalties for dying- another topic perhaps).
But I do not like the idea of making it easier to level up a separate and additional toon that did not earn the "experience" itself. The exception being RCR- as in this case you are remaking the same toon into different one. It was created initially to fix broken builds, and anyways, I justify it as being similar to reincarnation. :shifty:
So an exp reward bank does not seem that realistic to me. But gold as an exp reward would not necessarily break reality or immersion of the game. The simple reason is that in reality as well as in fantasy, people are sometimes born rich (for the argument of transfer to alts). Also, one can easily justify this level 30 reward as additional revenue received by a master adventurer during its performance of master adventuring. One can RP many reasons why as a level 30 you are able to obtain gold. Us guildies will finally start getting paid regularly for example. But how do you explain why and how you suddenly and randomly became better at something without any training?
You could make transferring gold from one player to another illegal (which it should be anyways imo). So the already existing millionaires can not make all their alts and friends also millionaires.
All my characters need gold to purchase end game gear. And I do not foresee my four alts ever being fully equipped. Which is discouraging. I have been unlucky in finding epic items to sell, and I am not on enough to loot grind regularly. So I see a level 30 exp to gold bank as also away to balance out the issues with the servers economy.

We could also use XP in the place of gold (maybe at a 10 XP : 1 Gold) ratio, for the purpose of doing RP things like guild halls. So, if you wanted to buy a guild hall, you and your guildmates could sub out some of the gold cost for some of the extra XP you have.

So there is a third and fourth option as well: being able to transfer XP or convert it directly to gold.

I believe all possibilities are a good start to adding more intrigue for 30 level players that doesn't currently exist today. With this effort, I believe a small amount of monotony/boredom that happens at level 30 can be mitigated and thus stave off the "I've beat this game" mentality that ultimately results in a lower player base.

Thanks to everyone that participated (or will participate) in this thread.

500xp for 50 gold doesn't sound so bad. or maybe 1000xp for 100 gold.

2 hours of RPing with my lvl 30 at least will give me 100 to 200 gold rather than nothing.

Just make it so you lose 2-3 levels when you die and you won't need this option.

Add a spell selection that uses XP cost (demi realms or guild portals. Maybe Epic spell scrolls that can be crafted with XP.)

Onther option. Take 1/2 to 1/3 exp gathered by a Player and give them an Item. For when RPing a student you can reward that XP to them. (Kinda like a DM giving XP) this could also be used for player driven events. Like say I need gibberling hearts or such.

I can see the Silver Rose using this option for their squires.

I know some servers have XP tokens that can be traded in the Nexus to an XP merchant that has (XP to level up or items/scrolls of power) Do tokens can be used for Languages if RP fits (may need DM approval) or something like that.

Point is there needs to be some sort of reward for being 30, and doing more then just sitting by a fire. Get them out there helping lowbies/newbies learn about the world.

Bre'teas a DA Sorcerer used to have a teacher student bond with my Wizard. I loved the RP and learned so much about the server when I first started. Even now I was to do what he did for me with others.

Use the overleveled XP to gain access to a bonus chest, which generates items like in an epic dungeon. So you have a chance to find epic items as well as gold or an epic spoon of room.

I don't like the idea of passing around of XP/gold between alts. They usually have no chance to interact with each other, so it feels weird in an IC perspective. Passing XP to another character you meet could be a possibility, but in my opinion it would require something like a master of teacher feat to do so.

When you play a "Commoner" class, you automatically add to your XP pool at level 1 and cannot gain levels.

Of course, you must gain XP RPing... trying to do combat as a commoner won't really work out for you :D
