Disable defensive combat modes with offensive combat feats.

Unread post by Terankar »

On a mechanical level, you can use NH+ICE.

It makes very little sense that you can pair those together, as how can you use the reckless fighting of Northlander Hewing and also use the defensive combat style of expertise at the same time.

It makes sense that NH + IPA works together, since they are in the same mindset of fighting, as would a similar Sembian Fencing or AT + ICE as they fit in style.

Perhaps this could be looked into being done, so they can pair together based on their style: offensive combat feats and modes go together, defensive feats and modes to together.

This would greatly hurt build variety and it's boring too. Not everyone wants to play a frenzied berzerker that does 60 damage per hit.

Someone running ICE + NH gets -6 to AB and only +4 ac in exchange for extra damage. It's not certainly OP and from a roleplaying point of view, it's just a combination of tactics. Nowhere in the feat it says that you have to be delicate and graceful to use combat expertise, simply that you sacrifice accuracy for defence.

Forcing feats like this will just narrow down the way people build and it will just reduce options, though the one that makes sense is barbarians raging while using ICE or CE since the players handbook specifically forbids this.

I think that is a matter of perception.

I see it as you are having all builds using ICE, regardless of their options to get the AC.

So since it is necessary to make a viable build, it is no longer an option, but a must have.

Your example is doesn't seem like an option you take to play a certain way, but chosen because that is required for your character to work.

Options are not always the best thing, when there no actual consequence.

You mean -6AB, -2AC and less attacks are not enough consequences for you?

You are not at a loss when it is required for your build to do dmg and have enough AC.

That is false - it is not required. The one melee build that i have, that can solo everything has neither of those feats.

If you blindly use CE/ICE and NH them your build can be less effective. There are certain situations that the combination can be more efficient. That is why it is good to have all those feats. To be prepared for every situation. That is not a bad thing at all
