Base/Single Class Heroes (weekenders Group)

Hello!

Zanniej and I came up with a crazy idea to put together a story-first adventuring group that has a rule that limits the Character to a Level 30 base class.

This follows the initial D&D aspect of:
In the original Dungeons & Dragons boxed set, there were only three main classes: the Cleric, the Fighting man, and the Magic-User. The first supplement, Greyhawk, added the Thief as a fourth main class, as well as the Paladin as a Fighting Man subclass. These four fantasy gaming archetypes represent four major tactical roles in play: the Fighter offers direct combat strength and durability; the Thief offers cunning and stealth; the Cleric provides support in both combat and magic; and the Magic-User has a variety of magical powers. In many ways, other classes are thought of as alternatives that refine or combine these functions. Dwarves and Halflings were restricted to the Fighting Man class, and Elves were restricted to the Fighting Man and Magic-User classes; all three non-human races had limited level advancement.
To start off we want to fulfill the 4 basic archetypes: Cleric 30, Fighter 30, Rogue 30, Wizard 30. If we could even manage THAT, then we’d like to add additional Base 30 Classes (barbarian, spirit shaman, etc.).

The Race would be up to the Player.

This group would meet probably only on the weekends, for a 2-3 hour session, but only as RL availability permits. And Z-man and I are in the European time zones.

Also, starting at Lvl 1, in a Tavern, after hearing of a advertisement for a small quest into a dangerous dungeon....

I’d also suggest, for fun, that each Character can be gifted (twinked) a SINGLE item of the Players choice, something that can be made an aspect of the Characters background.

FYI, I’ve done this “project” a number of times before, and it’s a ton of fun if you like inter-Character RP, and aren’t interested in getting anywhere fast.

Questions? Comments? Let us know either here or in a PM. Cheers.

I would be interested in that and willing to fill in whichever is missing but my playtimes would be around morning to afternoon GMT zone, so there might be a conflict there. If not, I'd participate.

I might be interested in this group. I can play a rouge or cleric. Let me know the day and time, I'm pretty flexible.

Playtimes would dictate my availability, but I am very interested in the concept. Will play whatever, if timing works.

As long as you guys leave a non-magic class for me, I'm game!
(I draw the line just after paladin/ranger :-P )

I'll take Wizard! It's the Class I least play so...that'll be...fun?!?

And to put the icing on the cake, I'll make it a Sun Elf (nothing like RPing the One Percent).

So, a post I tried to make earlier didn't stick—I'll try again.

Thanks to everyone for the interest! I hope this can work out.

Looks like Zanniej is going to take the Fighting Man role, and I'm going to try my hand at a Sun Elf Magic User. The next step(s) are mainly finding a time, and letting whomever else wants to "claim" a Role, well, go for it.

Cheers.

Not yet! Perhaps saturday around (GMT) noon? (i've got a busy weekend ahead of me, so not many options, I'm afraid)

I'll create my fighting man this evening!

Saturday at noon GMT+0 would work for me this time, at least. Though since I’ll be “watching the store” at the same time I maybe have to AFK once or twice.

But still...some time to introduce our characters to each other IG and RP around our first Quest, sounds great!

Also, we can soon switch to PMs for OOC stuff, once we get the group going. Cheers.

If you guys still have room for a fifth, I'd like to join for at least the first session. With a couple late summer vacations coming up, I won't be able to make every weekend. But I figure I'll take more of a support role and let you all lead the "campaign" and try to join for as many of these sessions as I can. I have a spirit shaman in mind if you think that will be a good fit.

I'm in California (West Coast US) where I believe +0 GMT = 5:00am. A might bit early for me, but I can certainly log in by around 6:00am.

I'll keep an eye on this post to see how things play out. And good job Steve and Zannej for getting this going, seems like a very fun RP idea!

You are very welcome as far as I'm concerned!
I won't be able to make every session either I think. But that shouldn't be a big problem.

I won't be able to stay beyond 15.00 GMT I'm afraid. So starting at 13.00 might cut it a bit short.
Then again, you can always continue without me :-)

A fifth wheel! Hahaha! J/k...role SS up, Sir B-zo.

A 2-3 hour window was expected from the start. But if we’re just using these Characters mainly for these weekend sessions, picking up where we leave off, should be easy...an expected.

We start at 12:00 GMT +0, and people should feel comfortable coming and going within the window of opportunity.

But yeah, this first time I mostly foresee introductions and planning, in order to “find” ourselves, as a group.

Cheers.

From within the Elfsong Tavern, popular with adventurers, a minor rumor is spoken that something has gone amiss with a patron...or was it the proprietor?

It would appear that a number of inexperienced yet eager occupants of the Inn—each present for individual reasons no doubt soon to be shared—are drawn to the rumor, and coalesce around a single table, to determine just where and when they should begin their Quest....
