Founded: 1347 DR by Jonas Rokranon and Saint Merielle

Current Localization:
Previously vacant residence that was granted by the city to house the refugees. Later on it has been turned into an Orphanage and currently functions as its main building.
//It has a physical representation server-side. A T-shaped building close to the temple of Ilmater.//

Previous Localization:
Within the grounds of the Order of Radiant Heart's chapter house. All the buildings were destroyed during Baldur's Gate siege of 1351 DR. Since then the Orphanage has been moved to the city.

Person in charge: Revered Sister Juna
Sister Juna

The Eldest Ilmatari Sister, Juna is 11 years younger than Brother Marcus, at 61. Of the Sisters she has, had the most monastic training. She is very wise, very mother hen-like. She is a good stitch at mending physical wounds and broken bones. Her field skills are unmatched, as is her wit and humor, She is mildly cynical, and good natured, she is anything but prudish, though very motherly. She has this innate way of making people smile. She adores children and good jokes. She is a pretty fair cook and does have the ability and backbone to keep the children in line… Few are able to withstand her ‘mom look’ which, when executed, has been known to cower paladins as well as all sorts of folk. You don’t want to make her mad! She is often also the one who attends many of the social functions that the Ilmatari are to attend.

Alicia
A woman in her late thirties who lost her family in Kheldrivver during last year's war. She took refuge in Baldur's Gate together with many other from her town. Spent few months in the infirmary due to wounds suffered during the evacuation. When she got better, Alicia showed interest in taking care of children and after some time under Sister Juna's close supervision she became one of the senior caretakers at the Orphanage. Alicia is very patient, always speaks in a soothing tone which makes her a very good guardian of the smallest of children.

Tenner
A stern but just man in his mid-twenties. A former patrolman in Kheldrivver that lost his right hand in a battle before the evacuation. Being no longer able to wield a sword he dedicated himself to helping others in a different way. Some say he found his real calling, as Tenner shows a really spectacular talent in handling those more troubled kids among the Orphanage's charges. His way with some of the rascals, especially boys, convinced Sister Juna to give Tenner a chance and he has been with the Orphanage ever since.

TRAITS: Very stern but fair, assertive, understanding, patient. Very good with solving conflicts and handling troubled kids.
APPEARANCE: Grey eyes, short, black hair. Tall and muscular. Lost his right hand in a battle.

Maryss
Maryss, Mary for short. She has embraced Ilmater’s Dogma and intends to remain indefinitely with the Ilmatari in Baldur’s Gate. She has a knack for growing things, and for herbal remedies that she is currently learning from Sister Rachel. In exchange for room and board, she tends gardens at the orphanage full of the herbs that the Ilmatari use in their curatives, tonics, salves, teas, tinctures, and remedies.
NAME: Maryss
AGE: 17
RACE/GENDER: Human Female
TRAITS: Enjoys gardening, herbalism, would rather spend time outside than inside.
APPEARANCE: Tall for her age, hazel eyes, tanned, slender, but not thin, light brown hair
CURRENT STATUS: At the Ilmatari temple, with no gardens at the orphanage she helps Sister Rachel much more, especially with the need for herbal remedies skyrocketing in a post-war city, when not needed she acts as a senior caretaker at the Orphanage.

Anne
Anne, sometimes Miss Annie. A former charge of the Orphanage, she remains at it to aid in the education of the both younger and older children. She is very calm and very much likes to read, learn, and share this knowledge. She will likely fill Juna’s shoes when Juna is no longer able to. She has taken a vow of non-violence as she pursues her training with Sister Juna.

AGE: 18
RACE/GENDER: Human Female
TRAITS: Enjoys helping with the other children, also volunteers some in the temple kitchen, is helping Juna running the Orphanage.
APPEARANCE: Very light brown hair, green eyes, lightly tanned, average build and height
CURRENT STATUS: Together with Sister Juna takes care of kid's studies and care, supervises Nicolas, Jessica, and Vera.

Daniel
Daniel, although very young still, he has decided that he wishes to train as a priest. He adores Brother Marcus, and fully intends to fill his shoes some day. Brother Marcus has every faith in the boy, and, in fact, has taken Daniel on as an apprentice of sorts, the boy often helps at the temple with Brother Marcus’ work, doing thins like fetching herbs and delivering messages. Daniel does not mind the tasks and is surprisingly mature for his age. With the exceptions of evening meals, lessons, and sleep. Daniel spends his time in the Ilmatari temple.

BACKGROUND: Jessica’s parents were killed by Bhaalists, and subsequently kidnapped by them. Eventually, a group of paladins including one name Aranath found her in the Vault of the Dead, chained in a pool of blood. She had been almost sacrificed for a ritual.

And many, many more kids of different ages. The youngest currently in the care of the orphanage are barely infants or toddlers but the vast majority of children is between 4 and 14 years old.
The number of charges has grown tremendously in the last year however there is still hope that some of the children will be reconnected with their families after the post-war chaos is settled.
Buildings serving as the Orphanage are guarded day and night by men and women provided by The Order of Radiant Heart.

//Any interactions against the children would be considered as godmoding the NPCs. Which would be a grave violation of server rules.
Any interactions with children are going to be closely monitored by the DM team. //

Caretakers:
Sylvi
Sylvi is a woman in late forties. She worked as a nanny and a teacher for over 20 years. Child care is all Sylvi knows, she can establish a relationship with almost any child. She is known to be stern but caring and always fair, a strong critic of any kind of favoritism. Her down to earth and rather pragmatic nature together with a fair grasp of few domains of knowledge like history, geography, arithmetics make her a good teacher.

TRAITS: Stern, fair, patient and caring, down to earth.
APPEARANCE: Blue eyes, long, blonde hair usually braided in two braids, sturdy and thick-boned, burn scar covers the left side of cheek and neck.

BACKGROUND: Formerly a nanny at a residence in a village west of Misty Forest that was abandoned during the war in 1351 DR

Richard
Richard was born in the Gate, he worked for many years as mason and bricklayer. Now his son took over the family business and his three daughters moved away. Richard's wife died last year and the man found himself in need of finding a new path. He is an example that life can surprise you even when you think you are too old to be anything but. After some volunteering at the Orphanage, Richard was chosen by Sister Juna to accompany the rest of the kids to Pathfinder Hall and remain there as a permanent caretaker. Having been a father to four kids he is good at his new job. Wise, patient man and with a warm personality. He can be seen always wearing a welcoming smile. Richard is quick to laugh and has quite a talent for "infecting" others with his joyful nature.

Middle aged man. Tall and strong despite the fact that he is no longer in his prime. In his youth, Warren was an adventurer and a mercenary. Very good with blade and shield. Settled down after getting married. Warren has been working as a caravan guard for many years and as a merchants' bodyguard.
Jim
Starting 51st winter of his life a faithful of Tyr and a former Fist sergeant. He left the Flaming Fist due to a disagreement with his superiors over 20 years ago and has been working as a personal bodyguard to few merchants and lower nobles. His family is very important to him.

Overwiew
The youngest of kids have either little or none ability to write and read.
Between ages 11 and 13 they read more or less fluently, with only three charges having more difficulties than others. Writing still proves challenging for some.
Between ages 14 and 17 kids can read and write on an average level. Few of them having fewer problems than others and perhaps can show aptitude towards extended education.

The oldest of children are partially responsible for the younger ones and are to support caretakers in their duties. Which means that in addition to Richard and Sylvi there are three older kids acting as extra help.

It is advised that boys and girls above the age of 14 are assigned separate quarters.

Three dozens of children will produce quite a ruckus and a considerable level of noise during the day. This can be mildly disturbing to other activities, guests and residents at Pathfinder Hall. Even with the discipline drilled into the young minds during their stay at the Orphanage, children can create a rather chaotic environment. Not to mention, there are times when fights, quarrels, crying and other less fortunate occurrences happen. They are inevitable with the amount of children currently living under Lions' roof.

The troublesome trio - they seem to have some odd bond going. They compete with one another for everything which sometimes ends in a fight. We suspect they all know each other from the time they spent on the streets. They were taken in together, all suffering from burns. Most likely were together in the fire.

TRAITS: Short tempered, rowdy, gruff, energetic, can be aggressive. As long as he is occupied with manual labor his temper is not a problem.

Warren and Irinna are the only two half-elven children Meri has… while not blood related, they see each other as brother and sister and are very close. They seldom do anything without each other and tend to be Meri’s biggest Troublemakers. You can imagine the trouble the combo makes.

After a letter to then Councilor Auriel, ((Adventuress)), arrangements were made with other members of Doron Amar and the two were moved safely to the Elven Settlement in 1347 just before the tensions between Baldur’s Gate and Amn broke out in a full-scale war, destroying Beregost and Gullykin.

announced for the 12th day of Alturiak in support of the Winter Festival Fundraiser for the needy of the war.

Those interested in putting on a show of magic for the civilian populace need to consult with Priestess Aeili about their intentions and offer a donation of 900 gold pieces.

Ameris's duties refocus upon the orphan crisis, now the immediate aftermath of the siege is passing. He delivers a letter to the Sword Coast Commercial exchange.

Follow this, Ameris is seen delviering a bundle of letters: to the temples of Tyr, Torm, Tempus, Mystra, Helm, Gond and Tymora.

"When he was quite young, he accompanied his merchant father from Mulhorand to the barbaric and outlandish West, through Cormyr, all the way to Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate being what it is, his father was killed and he was left an orphan. He quickly learned to put his background to use, becoming quite adept at “negotiation”. Of course, talking didn’t always work, so he got to be good with his fists. After one attempted scam went sour, he was locked up and sentenced to convict labor. As fate would have it, the labor turned out to be scut work for the priests of the Triad, who assigned him to Ilmater’s shrine."

Two northmen warriors and a blonde-headed shield maiden stride confidently through the city meeting each citizens’ gaze with a firm, but not aggressive look. Their long hair is swept back in the wake of the breeze creating by their movement. They are wearing ring-mail leathers overlaying fur-lined garments, typical battle axe tucked into their belts, round shields on their backs, all of which are in the best-of-order. The woman is similarly dressed, though about her waist is a wide leather belt interwoven with crimson and sky-blue ribbons cascading into a sash. A gray, white-tipped feather hangs from her hair at her left ear.

They approach the temple guards outside of the temporary orphanage building in the East Gate District. The woman steps forward and addresses the guards, “I am Nerys, Emissary of the Greyfox Tribe. I am here to seek council with your Sister Juna. She should be expecting me.” A few at the temple may recognize the woman, knowing she is a friend of Ameris and Telia Santraeger. Soon afterward, the three are led to join Juna.

The two warriors step back behind Nerys as she speaks. “Sister Juna, I am Nerys Greyfox, Emissary of the Lord Trasker Selarn of the Secomber Area of the Lords’ Alliance and my Greyfox Tribe. I am also wife to our Chief Cynric and your Sister in Ilmater, Layana, who sends her blessing from our camp. A few days ago I spoke with Telia Santraeger about the situation with the orphans in this walled village. I am now honored to seek council with you and to offer remedy to this situation with the large number of orphans.”

Nerys listens to Juna’s reply, then inquires, “Where are the children? I believe they too should her the offer I have for them. Please bring to us, those boys and girls, who are in need of a new home. I want them to hear my words and decide for themselves, with your blessing, if they want to return with us to the north.”

After some number of children are gathered up, Nerys addresses them, with frequent glances at Sister Juna. “Children, boys and girls, young men and women, we all recently endured terrible loses to the undead horde. But, Tempos guided the warriors of this land to gather together and defeat them in honorable combat. But the battle is finished, for now, and it is time to gather together in peace. For we are stronger together than apart. I am Nerys, shieldwife of the Greyfox Tribe. These men are two of our most honored warriors,” she motions to them, who each nod at their recognition. “Our tribe faced a terrible enemy, just as you and your city did here. We understand what you’ve endured, with the aid of Ilmater as led here by Sister Juna.”

“But, there are so many of you, that even with the best of help, it may not be enough for you all to grow up to be honorable warriors, or traders, or travelers, or whatever the wind guides your heart to do. We offer you, the strong of you, with a freedom-loving heart, to come with us. We will welcome you, boys and girls, to join our Tribe. You will have plenty to eat. You will have a dry bed and a tent over your head. We will teach you how to forage food from the forest. We will teach you the basic skills of a warrior so that you may defend yourself with honor. Some of you will hear the call of Tempos and join our warriors. Others will hear the call of Shaundakul’s north wind to wander far and wide, to aid those in-need on the trails, just as I offer you aid here today. All can learn the skills of making things from leather, or wood, or steel. You will be allowed the freedom to decide for yourself what you want to do as your grow to be a young man or woman. Terri would begin to work on finding suitable candidates for finding apprenticeships for the children by first meeting with the following people. For each person she would meet she would ask specific and non specific questions in regards to the interests of the numerous children under their care.

Both girls would not feel comfortable speaking on those accounts and would kindly refer Terri to the head of the Orphanage, Sister Juna.

*having struck out with the younger girls Terri would wait patiently for a chance to speak to Sister Juna. When The sister would eventually have a free moment Terri would detail her idea* "I spoke to the younger girls but they felt uncomfortable with the questions I asked. I realize now that they would not want to appear to give favoritism towards any one of the children now. I really do however need to know a little bit about some of the ones who are most prepared to undertake an apprenticeship and where there Interests lie. I would like be pleased if you could provide some files on the ones who are ready to be placed so that I can find the best placement for them."

*Terri would then ask Juna the same questions posed to the younger girls. She would then ask permission to observe the children and interact with them some. She would ask if she could spend a few hours over the next couple of days to see where each child's aptitude level are set at. Terri would also ask if she could initiate initiate trust building exercises with the children to attempt to draw them out of any potential shell shock from the traumatic experiences they had underwent.*

Mentor, Protector -- First Lessons

Please keep in mind that they are still children" She gives the four boys a certain look before her attention is returned to Dorne "And they need very close supervision. I trust you will take a good care of them. Please escort them back here in three hours so they are not late for their chores and dinner."

He tries to sound as fair and even-handed, knowing that young boys can be jealous over the most minor things. "Both lines will walk side by side and I will walk behind ye, centered between the two lines. And when I say 'Form up' ye will get into these lines directly in front me alright?"

Upon finishing the lesson, he gives the command to 'form up', then arrange some snack for the children before escorting his pupils back to the Orphanage.

The restablishment of a soup kitchen in the docks, to act as a permanent base of outreach to the most poverty stricken in the city and help them recover from the effects of war and plague.

Initial target: 150,000 pieces.


The purchase of food to supplement the city's supplies during the difficult year ahead we face, while the city's farmlands recover.

Initial target: 300,000 pieces.


With these projects, and no doubt more to come, the Ilmatari endeavour to honour their lord's compassion and grace, for the good of the people of Baldur's Gate.

Before the sun has risen in the mornings, Michael and Rain are in the kitchens, heating up the kitchen's ovens and hearth and preparing to feed the small army that will soon be within the Pathfinder's Hall. Breakfasts usually consist of pancakes or potatoe cakes - simple carbs an starches that are easy to make in bulk with the limited supplies available. They practice with small batches for now on any willing guests.

By the time the sun breaks over the city walls, he does take time to pause, and look toward the rising dawn, but there is no joy in it. Its a joyless act of duty.

Soon as the pair have shared their own meal apart from the rest within the kitchen, they're gone again, not returning for lunch and only in the evening when dusk is upon the farmlands, and all the chores and tasks that can be accomplished for the day have been.

Dinners vary of soups, stews, fried vegetables and the primary meat that is served is fish. Simple practice for now that will soon be needed. Afterwards, once the dishes and kitchen are clean again the pair depart, declining a bed and sleeping somewhere outside the city's walls.

Protectors of the Sword Coast


The Blight's siege has reaved the lives of rich and poor, and now our war on suffering begins.

The Adorned of Ilmater have under their care well over two hundred orphans; the Order of the Radiant Heart meets its promise to protect them but is overstretched.

We need help from trusted protectors, to take their turn standing guard over the children. And more aid in providing teaching and care for our meek charges is welcome as well.

If you feel moved to defend and care for the weakest, speak with Brother Ameris Santraeger of Ilmater, Sister Reine of Ilmater, or any other members of the temple regarding aid. Alternatively talk to Mi-Le, Dorne of Nobanion, Sir Aaron Lyonaler or Steward Telia Santraeger at Pathfinders Hall.

Those who arrive with letters of reccomendation from the Temples of Helm, Torm, Tyr, Tempus, Gond, Mystra and Tymora in Baldur's Gate, the Song of Morning Temple in Beregost, and the House of the Guardian or Everwatch Knights in Nashkel will readily be accepted.

Others will be interviewed by the Adorned of Ilmater
