Duelward Usage

Unread post by Steve »

How is this working, Duelward, exactly and mechanically?
You mantle yourself in a powerful magical field that facilitates your defense against enemy spells. While a duelward is in effect, counterspelling is an immediate action for you, allowing you to counterspell even when it is not your turn without having previously readied an action. You also gain a +4 competence bonus on Spellcraft checks made to identify spells being cast. The first time you successfully counterspell while the spell is in effect (whether you counterspell as an immediate action or not), duelward is discharged.
Do you enable Counterspelling, then cast this? Or is this truly like a 1/round per CL mantle, that you cast and essentially gives you a 1 off Counterspell (which honestly, is pretty good if you are a lower CL gish and want to protect yourself from the AI's auto dispel choice).

You can't counterspell dispells. I had to rcr my reactionary counterspeller because of this.

One SHOULD be able to do this, IF you have the same Spell memorized.

That's the whole point & mechanics of Counterspelling, as advertised!!

So... wait. What if both of us have reactive counterspell.. one of us casts duelspell. The other casts fireball. And now we are able to counterspell each other's counterspells?

So it's fireball-hotpocket-tennis-death-match-whohasthemostspellslots?

no it doesn't counterspell counterspells. The same spell can't counterspell itself. Dispells can't be counterspelled at all. I strongly suspect the AI also cheats to know if you will counterspell them.

I'm assuming that because Counterspelling in general remains broken, Duelward as well, will not work as advertised.

Because the Counterspelling mechanics say same spell counters same spell.
