Mass Fowl available or Vampiric Feast for a Druid?

Unread post by Tekill »

PART 1.
My amazballs build that I stole from Karond is a bit stuck.

I qualify for Mass Foul but it is not available to me. The spell according to NWN2wiki: Prerequisite: Ability to cast 9th level spells1, Spellcraft 24 ranks
Classes: Bard, Druid, Spirit Shaman, Wizard, Sorcerer, Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, Arcane Trickster, Eldritch Knight, Pale Master, Red Wizard, Stormlord, Harper Agent

But at level 27 I do not seem to be able to choose this spell. Is it in game?
So does anyone know why I cant turn everyone into chickens?!
Has the spell been removed?

PART 2.
I was going to take Vampiric Feast instead. But another player pointed out to me that Druids tend to consider undead unnatural which is very undruid.
If mass fowl is not available can anyone justify to my how Vampiric Feast would/could be usable by a druid?

As a druid I would rather turn you into a chicken than absorb your life force and turn your husk into an shadow.

Mass Fowl is in game. Friends of mine have it, a couple of them even on their druids.

No way you can justify VF on a Druid, unless you are some sort of Shadow Druid or equally deranged.

Druids are big enemies of Undeath. That spell creates an Undead. RIP.

What class did you take, or what class are you waiting to take, at level 27? Perhaps the feat is missing from some epic feat list or something like that. It has happened before.

As for the Vampiric Feast to make sense for a druid, your druid basically has to be some kind of 'Shadow Druid' or basically a blighter as far as role-play goes.

Perhaps with some blighter role-play it could work for a druid that worships Talona to spread diseases or Talos for the sake of destruction.

In otherwords, you use offensive spells that would be create as much havoc as possible, and in that case Vampiric Feast might actually make sense. But there might be some deity related issues with it.

Other choices of epic spells could be:

Epic Spell: Call Lightning Storm (27 spellcraft, 9th level spells)
  • You deal 35D6 Eleectric damage to all enemies in a massive area of effect. The Reflex DC is 34 + ability modifier (Epic Spell base DC of 25 + 9 bonus = 34). 3 uses per day, cooldown 2 minutes. Spell Resistance does apply.
Epic Spell: Greater Ruin (24 spellcraft, 9th level spells)
  • You deal 50D6 positive damage to a single enemy. The Fortitude DC is 25+ability modifier. 3 uses per day, cooldown 2 minutes. Spell Resistance does apply.
Epic Spell: Mass Heal (25 spellcraft, 9th level spells)
  • You heal all allies in the area of effect of up to 300 HP. This will damage undead for the same amount with a Will DC of 25+ability modifier. Spell Resistance does apply.

Part 1-
Huh, yeah, I was trying to take it with Hospitaler. I assume it is not available with with this class. That is okay, I have one last level of druid to take. I will just take it sooner than later- hopefully that will work.

Part 2-
Yeah the draining life part of the Vampiric Feast is fine. It is just the raising of the shadow afterwards that wont work with my druid. I sort of knew the answer to this one already...its just such a nice spell.

Okay thanks.

1) Lossarwyn the Ice Lich from champions of ruin, who taught the Eldreth Veluuthra how to harness divine magic.

2) Corrupted Wildshape from Liber Motris:
"You have learned to use the necromantic energy that powers your undead form to overcome the inability of undead creatures to wild shape. You can assume the form of an undead, rotten creature with the use of your wild shape ability.

Prerequisite: Undead type, wild shape class feature.

Benefit: You can use your wild shape ability even though you are undead. The ability functions just as if you were a living creature using the ability, with the following exceptions.
You do not gain a Constitution score in the new form, and you retain all the immunities of the undead type while in your new form. The form you assume looks half-decayed, with missing patches of fur and rotted, worm-eaten flesh. While you are in this form, the rank odor of death hangs around you.

Normal: Since it is based on the polymorph spell, wild shape works only on living creatures."

----

This misconception formed likely from the Druid Handbook, which said:
"Therefore, most druids see the undead as abominations to stamp out to restore the proper workings of Nature."

Key word: Most.

Also, then went on to detail the "Lost Druid" class kit, which is a druid that could summon undead animals.

"Yet, druids do not actively hunt undead. This is primarily because undead rarely directly invade a druid's sphere of interest. However, if a vampire starts menacing a peaceful village, a banshee begins stalking the moors, or a lich introduces a reign of terror to the wilderness, a druid may intervene."

Doesn't seem like they are big enemies, anyway. The handbook says that "most druids" see undead as unnatural, but it also says that they are generally outside the druid's sphere of influence. As druids deal with the living world, and undead are not part of that world.

----

Also, as a final note: We do actually have undead druids on the server, in the underdark. So, we have both a canon example and server-specific NPC undead druids!

I am not aware of this undead druid but perhaps it may not have had a choice in becoming undead. It could even be considered a greater corruption of nature by other druids, because this undead is a druid.

But yeah I tend to generalize druids as always being obsessed with the balance of nature. That beleiving, undead corrupt the balance of nature by corrupting death. A lot of druids could embrace decay, entrophy, death and such things because its part of nature. But undeath, sort of cheats death which cheats the balance of nature.

But maybe there could be a druid or circle of druids that beleives the balance is already corrupted that maybe life is too plentiful or overpopulated. Perhaps necromancy and undeath are tools to restore this imbalance, using death to cull life. I still have a hard time getting my head around it, but that would be one spooky druid circle....I like it!

My druid is a servant of Grumbar and the element of earth, which is a very niche type of druid in and of itself. Technically I would bet Grumbar could have just as much issue with my druid using water, air and fire magic more than using necromancy. But there is not much written on druids of specific elements. I will assume though that Grumbar would want all life to return to the earth upon dying.
But that would not discount me from summoning spectral undead would it?
Who knows....

Good speech. You just forgot to read one of the three lines of my post:

What you mentioned classifies as "equally deranged".

Thanks for the lore!
