Lord Dhelt Records
Correspondence:

[parchment]Lord Dhelt,

I write to you today because i require your aid, no doubt you have heard of the fiendish army [building around Dragonspear. An Army that has started to assault the various villages and settlements close by. It is my goal to build an army strong enough to assault the growing devil forces, and close the hellgates within Dragonspear.

To this end i require your aid. You are a man with a well known reputation, having your backing would add legitimacy to my cause in the realm of man. Not to mention the benefit your Hellriders would provide the army. And your current camp in Triel might be useful as the place to gather growing forces. I have reached out to many others, but your support is paramount if i am to have any success.

By this point you are likely wondering who i am, fact is i am almost entirely unknown to those outside of my people. My name is Elvalia Nightstar, of the elven house Nightstar in Evermeet. I am a priestess of the goddess Angharradh. For the better part of this century i was a freedom fighter, doing battle to free those enslaved by Thay or the Zhentarim and other like minded groups. Up until about four years ago, when the price for the freedom of a few was my life. A price i gladly paid.

A Deva had watched my sacrifice however and made the choice to save me, blessing me with one of it's feathers. Since that day i have also walked the path of a Solar Channeler, a holy warrior blessed with some of the gifts of a solar. In order to defend the Material Plane from fiendish invasion. A sometimes conflicting existence given the chaotic nature of my kin, but one that is not conflicting in this.

Now i do not expect you to take my word alone upon this, frankly if i had heard a similar story ten years back i would have scoffed. So included with this letter is my most prized possession, the only proof i have without meeting in person. I trust you will keep it safe and return it with your reply.

When you have reached your decision send word to Friendly Arms Inn, and i will collect it from Doron Amar. I have memorized your city and can return in an instant when it is time to meet.

Blessed winds,

Elvalia Nightstar.[/parchment]

To Elvalia Nightstar, priestess of Angharradh,

I have received your letter regarding your cause and explanation of your own self. I must say, it is not often I am reading a message from an elf that cares about cooperation regarding fighting evils of this world, but a promise of aid should not be turned away based on such from a race that many regard noble. However, you must be aware that waging a war is not simple nor without cost. I will hear you out at my court in next three days and I will tell you the reality of the situation we're currently facing.

Along with this letter, I've sent a missive to Baldur's Gate as well, since the Grand Dukes have already been involved in defending the Fields of the Dead with my Hellriders at their Flaming Fist's side. As I understand, Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun has already met with them once before regarding the very matter you've touched upon.

In Helm's Vigilence,
Lord Dhelt of Elturel
Paladin of Helm

Hail to you, priestess Nightstar

This is a list of places and groups to investigate and disband any nefarious operations being conducted:
  • Group of Fiendish Gnolls under leadership of Yngrall. It's a gnoll warlord that has taken interest into intrusting into our lands, surprisingly, always when the defense is lowest. We suspect someone is giving him information when to strike.
  • Bandit group of Lysander Blackborn. Suspected strong connection to the Black Network, but no proof. He and his bandit group preys on traders and lumberjacks coming to the Reaching Woods to earn their living. They've taken liking to kidnapping people for ransom or worse. So far twelve humans have went missing, all young adults.
  • Bandit group of Galiman of Sembia - Sembian, foreigner. Came here for reasons nobody knows. His group of highwaymen are helping local monster populations to raid travellers in exchange for part of possessions from their victims. This man is completely ruthless.
A map with spots where they might be found is included with this letter.

In Helm's Vigilence,

Evereska

Councilor Le'liana,

We have received your missive to us, and while it troubles some of us, the Council of Elders has decided it is not in any direct threat to Evereska at its current state, as well as it is unlikely to breack into the Vale. Such events happening outside of the Vale are exactly why Evereska exists and why it is the hidden sanctuary of the People, with plentiful defenses erected to ensure safety of elves living here. Evereska cannot spare any of our actual defenses, nor even any High Mage deemed the cause worthy enough. However, we want to bring forward two advices that you might want to strongly consider, before any lives are lost:
  • Full evacuation of the wood elven settlement to either Evermeet or Evereska, or another distant forest.
  • We propose hiring a mercenary force. There is one that's based in Evereska and which might deem the cause elven and worthy enough to participate, but on their own terms. The Silent Rain are a mercenary, military group of archers, though their presence is always elusive and veiled with rumours. To contact them, you'll need to leave a message for them in Evereska, with a return adress, and they will send back an emissary to establish a deal.
We realise this might come off as a rather disappointing answer, but with the Retreat being in effect and enemies always trying to infiltrate (and failing at it) our homeland, we cannot spare our personal defenses for the sake of safety of our people.

With Corellon's guidance,

Laevron Nyraimil
Council of Hill Elders

Pending Meeting

Gathering funds

In an effort to gather funds to support a growing force, The SCCE has been hired to approach merchants and other wealthy nobles for support. Coin supplied by them will be used to support the troops. In addition they have agreed to assist in navigating the complexity of Court diplomacy.

Greetings Elvalia,

I trust my missive finds you well.

I have taken steps towards fulfilling your gracious request, and kindly asked the Silver Rose for their assistance in the matter.
As a consequence, I was invited to their keep in order to discuss the information you provided, and plan the next steps towards a satisfying outcome...

The only one that I could possibly find satisfying.

I'll keep in touch...

K.

Greetings Spooky,

I am glad to hear it and even more so to hear of the Silver Rose's involvement. If possible find out if someone has been feeding the bandits set targets. My own group will head out at the end of next tenday, leaving only one threat still pending.

Sincerely,

Elvalia

Berdusk

Thanks to Mendel today we met with High Lady Cylyria Dragonbreast of Berdusk. After some conversation Berdusk agrees to support the war effort against Dragonspear. With roughly 14 Gauntlets leading roughly 300 troops each. The troops will work together with the Hellriders pledged by Lord Dhelt under his and High Lady Cylyria's leadership.

This increases the allied force to roughly 6,200 after the issues on Elturel's boarder have been resolved. Waterdeep unfortunately will be unable to support the war effort for a few months, however other additional leads have been offered.

A Bandit's Bloody End
The group that was requested to seek the bandit attacking travelers and woodsmen set out to do just that. The group consisted of the proprietors of the Last Anchor, Derik and Lannia Ranloss as well as Niyressa Dawncrow and Lylan'Synor who both also reside at the Anchor. Unfortunately, the mages Brandrin and Dimitry were delayed and not able to join the time-sensitive expedition.

The group traveled to the Reaching Woods and found a medium sized camp. After an intense but short battle, the four veteran adventurers ended about 25 or so bandits, including the leader Lysander Blackborn. One bandit got away and was apparently a Lycanthrope or some other shifter and eluded the team in the woods.

Record of the 12 kidnapped individuals were found, but that they had already been taken to the East and towards the Inner Sea for the slave trade. The team searched for a day, moving quickly, to try to catch up to any caravans, but there was too much distance and could not find the slavers.

The bandit's head, a blood soaked paper, and the "receipt" from the slavers was taken to priestess Elvalia Nightstar so she could inform Lord Dhelt of the success.

By the end of the meeting the Guide offers Candlekeeps assistance in research, as far as battling the devil threat goes. Along with a personal donation of 400,000 to the war effort. Meeting the first goal of half a million gold.

There are reports circulated that an effort to aid the Lizardfolk in the High Moors has been underway for a while now. While the Fist consolidate forces, possibly to lend aid to the beseiged Folk once that is complete, several teams have been out and about the Moors to gather relics and items to assist the Moor natives in summoning a Guardian to protect their Sacred Hatching Grounds from the Dragonspear forces.

The hope is that the Gate will gain allies in this conflict that will be able to harry and hurt Dragonspear forces while denying the Devils more servants and enslaved peoples for resources.

So far it would appear that three out of the five relics and items needed for the ritual have been retrieved and are being delivered to the High Shaman. There are multiple groups from the Coast involved it seems, most actively right now members of the Northern Watch and the Bladestone Foundation, who seem to have a hand in coordinating the efforts.
