As I am stuck in horrible travel traffic nonsense, Nathan will not be present for event #2. I'll still try and show up late but it's not looking good.

Disregard, I've been travelling so much that I don't know what day it is anymore.

In perhaps one of the most unusual mass military engagements in the history of the Western Heartlands, a devils army of thousands, marched and flew at high speed, bypassing numerous area settlements (whether the Friendly Arm Inn, Greenest, Beregost, or Gullykin), straight from the Eastern Chiontar and through the Greenfields between Greenest and The Sharpteeth, towards the Cloud Peaks and Snakewood Gap ("The Gap" as Amnians call it), seemingly aiming for the ruins of ancient Uldoon's Torsil in the area and for the plains in heart of Amn, and perhaps even the City of Coin, Athkatla, itself... The devils army is said to have consisted mostly of ground forces as well as some flying contingents (though reduced in size due to an engagement with forces of Baldurian loyalists and allies near Baldur's Gate roughly a tenday earlier).

Amn somehow, getting to the pearl in a manner unknown to the wider public, was keen on the fiendish threat over the past few tendays and began to assemble thousands of troops in The Cloud Peaks and Snakewood gap, via its military headquarters Eshpurta, into an Amnian military deployment in the north not seen since the Amn-Gate War. Aided by adventurers and Amnian loyalists in thwarting devil flanking efforts and intrigues on the front line and in caves near “The Battle of the Gap”, as it is being called, the Amnian military, commanded by General Labak Craumerdaun (Commander-in-Chief of the Amnian Council Army himself) and various others such as Commander as Esbedi-Aleyda Reyes of the Nashkel military district, and its allies, some local to Nashkel, routed the devils invasion and annihilated any major threat of it to Amn.

After the battle, Gullykin, Beregost, and Doron Amar are relieved to hear that the threat of Amn's wrath was not aimed at their polities, but at the mutual devils threat. After hearing that Amn will withdrawal its bulk of forces from the Greenfields once the devils remaining are mopped up, these same settlements suspicious to Amn seem trending towards ease, with Beregost particularly relieved that The Beregost Accords remain honored by Amn.

Meanwhile, further up north, adventurers succeeded in removing the green fog that has been shrouding Kheldrivver for the last few tendays. Since the removal of the fog, normality appears to be returning to the village, although they still remain watchful for further devil activity in the region

The stragglers and deserters of the devils army left in the Western Heartlands after battling with Amn may indeed take some time for Glorious Amn, or aiding adventurers, to platinumly extinguish, but the major fiendish threat to the south has seemingly been routed and destroyed. Only Dragonspear, its original source, remains, and its time for annihilation may soon also be at hand... The forces of Baldur's Gate and the north at large are rumored to be on the move.

While he's not much of a fighter, Oth would eagerly be at the final event, just as he has been the previous two, to offer what help he may.

While the main forces of the Fist and the various groups signed on to do the final push against Dragonspear forces, Derik Ranloss did not join them. Having spent the last several weeks in Ulgoth's Beard to keep it free of bandits and pirates that were taking advantage of the opportunities war presents itself, he had not participated in the last few major battles despite his participation early on in the war.

This time was no exception, but for a different reason. As battle lines clashed, people were displaced. This is an inevitability in warfare. Refugees and noncombatants fleeing the scene also needed protection as small coastal hamlets were not the only thing that could be taken advantage of.

Another task asked of him from Duke Eltan earlier in the war had been to help train several squads of new City Guard to free up more Fist to the main battle lines. He accompanied 2 of those squads now along with 15 or so wagons of refugees trying to get behind the active combat lines

As the caravan proceeded towards the Gate as fast as it could safely go, one of the scout outriders came back to the wagons to report that tracks had been noted on the road ahead. This wouldn't normally be an issue, but someone had tried sloppily to cover them up and hide them. With a nod, Derik and the Squad Commander exchanged a look. The Tempurian warrior went to the back of the wagons, stepping up to ride on the back of the last one. Meanwhile, the Commander stationed troops more evenly on both sides and a couple of archers in a few of the wagons.

They didn't have long to wait.

With a roar of challenge, orcs streamed from the forest on both sides of the wagons in what the raiders thought was a perfect ambush. They were wrong. With a singing of bow strings the archers in the wagons dropped the first several orcs without them knowing they had even been targeted.

The Commander barked out commands and the Guards formed shield walls on each side, soon clashing with the charging orcs. As his wagon came to a stop, Derik stepped back down, shield now on his left arm and the burning Warwake in his right hand. A few of the orcs circled the shield lines for the back of the wagons that they though less defended. They found out how wrong they were in short order.

It didn't take long before the drilled and trained Guards took advantage of their shield lines with the polearm wielders behind. The ramshackle charge of orcs soon halted and shortly thereafter turned and fled back the way they came, 14 of their number now laying dead on the road.

After a short check to put the few wounded Guards into a wagon and be tended to, the Caravan was underway again. Derik sat on the back of the last wagon, blade across his lap as he watched for signs of pursuit. He saw none.

Not the glorious battle against Devils and their thralls to end a great threat, no songs or bardic tales to be told of this encounter. However, glancing over his shoulder at the several dozen women, children, and tradesmen who were alive when they wouldn't be, he simply nodded with a smile. Such was enough.

Not long after adventurers set off for Dragonspear, safe in the knowledge that other good efforts were being made to safeguard the home front and supply routes an individual was hired to proclaim the activities of the King's Tear Emporium. Travelling the highways and byways around the great City of Baldur's Gate a crier is heard to declare that The King's Tear Emporium has dispatched various corn based delicacies to support the troops and they expected to be serving the City led forces at Dragonspear itself with an intention to Keep pace with the fighting throughout. It is declared no risk is too great to deliver fine products to those that were taking huge risks saving the Coast from Devils. Any observing the crier might note he was eating fish at his break and not any corn products.

//All, thanks with your patience with the DM Team in running the finale metaplot Siege of Dragonspear event last weekend! I had a lot of tech problems myself and there was a lot of lag, so very grateful for you sticking through it! Thanks for your RP! Thanks to HDMs Theo and Boo, DM Spartacus, and CC DM Ink for your help with the event!

We will be posting a recap of the finale battle RP events soon, but first wanted to open things up to players to send in any RP to the DM Team that any players had wanted to attempt IC that maybe got missed by DMs in the thick of the event last weekend. Feel free to post as such in this thread or to PM the Deam Team with [Metaplot Finale] in the title to contribute as such -- so the DM Team can take any such RP into account as well in our reflections of the finale battle event. We will take contributions as such until Friday, January 17 end of GMT day, then post a recap of the event in final this coming weekend or the following week.//

A tall woman with a purple hood is seen at the Harbor District Flaming Fist Headquartes, just outside, speaking to Holton. Rumours say that she has brought a donation of gold for the families of the Flaming Fist, after exchanging a few words with the Flaming Fist Officer, both nod and she delivers him a heavy bag of platinum coins. She leaves unceremoniously with the promise that there will be more from where that came from.

The Great Siege of Dragonspear

In what is being termed The Great Siege of Dragonspear, the final battle in the war against the infernals has concluded a multi-year effort to oppose them, with the gates from the Hells in Dragonspear closed and the war ended. The battle saw forces marshaled in size not seen in the Western Heartlands since the undead wars of 1351 DR, with thousands of troops facing off against the infernals from various Lords’ Alliance and other factions including The Flaming Fist, volunteer adventurers and patriots of Baldur’s Gate, Hellriders of Elturel, Dwarven soldiers of Kraak Helzak, soldiers of Berdusk, and soldiers of Iriaebor, among others. The volunteers participating in the Lords’ Alliance effort included many factions of the region such as House Darius, Doron Amar, Candlekeep, House Vale, The Radiant Heart, The Silver Rose, The Ebon Blades, The Phoenix Company, Kraak Helzak, The Everwatch, the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange, and The Elder Circle, among others.

The Loyal Hammer company of Zhentilar based in Soubar as well as troops and agents of Darkhold and House Blackrose also fought the infernals on separate fronts as well on behalf of the banner of the Zhentarim, under the leadership of Knight Commander of the Ebony Scepter Bob Thairo by order from Darkhold by Dreadlord and Castellan Morgalia Verenach herself.

Robust logistical and material support was provided to the Flaming Fist efforts in particular, with trebuchets and ammunition for them and barricades deployed at the front lines with initiative from the Baldurian Sword Coast Commercial Exchange. These siege machines proved quite effective at covering fire and devils formation and wall breaking for assaulting units in the battle. The House Darius provided significant logistical support for the battle and the Flaming Fist’s front lines, along with a supporting effort by King's Tear Emporium, as did the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary with healing services. It is said that the ultra-patriotic Baldurian Lord Max Blackthorne though not in the thick of battle acted as liaison on behalf of the Grand Dukes of Baldur’s Gate with the leading officers of other Lords’ Alliance forces to coordinate command and control among the alliance powers present in the conflict, while ultra-patriotic Baldurian Steward Nathan of House Darius supported the efforts of his House and its Baldurian patriotism on the front lines. In other areas, Derik Ranloss and other supporters of Ulgoth’s Beard are said to have gathered in that settlement to aid possible incoming refuges from the battle and to protect the inhabitants there. In the south, forces of Amn are said to continue to mop up devil stragglers from the Battle of the Gap, with southern based factions in support such as the Temple of Helm and the Everwatch. Given the primary Everwatch focus south, Vigilant Sinoc Haven, who has been active in many anti-infernal efforts of the past year, fought on behalf of the Everwatch in the north, his participation even gaining the notice of fellow Helmite of Elturel High Rider Lord Dhelt.

In the battle itself, Grand Duke Eltan, General Scar, and Lady General Moruene of the Flaming Fist rallied Lords’ Alliance forces to the Winding Way fort, including among the aforementioned battle participants legendary figures such as Elminster and Khelben “Blackstaff” Arunson and renowned Lords’ Alliance leaders such as Helmite High Rider Lord Dhelt of Elturel. It is further rumored that Grand Duke Belt participated as a volunteering adventurer in disguise, so as not to draw attention. And while not present, Grand Duchess Liia had close advisers and allies in the battle at hand, including her loyal Baldurian supporter Osric Vale of House Vale.

With forces gathered, Grand Duke Eltan established an informal understanding with the Zhentarim that the Lords’ Alliance forces in the battle would not conflict with them and that the Zhentarim could operate freely on the northern front of the siege. Separately, Kraak Helzak, finding out about an approaching threat of devils to Helzak as a distraction force, began the battle fighting on the doorstep of their home territory and operated under the leadership of Bhor Stonecutter among others of similar status, close advisers to the Dwarven King of Kraak Helzak, and with support by members of the Rocky Creek Trade Company, including Solomon Peyton, who is known for their efforts to support the Flaming Fist with healing efforts the past year in battle with the infernals and for leading the Rocky Creek Trade Company supply efforts of the Fist in many of their battles.

Grand Duke Eltan, established as the commander-in-chief of the Lords’ Alliance operation, coordinated with the various forces present to initiate the battle at Dragonspear. The vanguard forces with Grand Duke Eltan and main body Flaming Fist and other Lords’ Alliance forces, including Hellriders, then marched to Dragonspear and laid siege, with Elminster and Blackstaff battling flying devils above with epic magics, including turning pit fiends into fowl. With the main Lords’ Alliance force then laying siege, Grand Duke Eltan then created a final vanguard that fought entry into the Castle Dragonspear directly to attempt to close the main hell linking portal in the castle, with sub commands of the vanguard force given to ultra-patriot Baldurian Grand Knight Aaron of the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary and to the militant and infamous Flaming Fist ally Jalib, battling through many devils and even a powerful “Herald of Dis” adversary to reach the main portal from the Hells in the castle. For a time, Grand Knight Aaron of the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary guarded Grand Duke Eltan himself in the battle, never leaving his side until some command duties required it. The mages of the vanguard were operated under command of Lady General Moruene. Vendor Xon, the famed ranger of the north and a hero of the undead wars of 1351 DR, provided support for the mages and scouting ability for the vanguard force among others.

The Zhentarim in the meantime received intelligence of another secondary portal from the Hells in caves near the castle and initiated their own assault on that source of hellspawn while the Dwarves of Kraak Helzak defeated the threat to their nation and advanced as a holding force next to Dragonspear, freeing up Lords’ Alliance forces for the final portals assault.

The final battle of the portals was fierce, but with the combined might of Elminster, Blackstaff, Lady General Moruene and volunteering allied and adventurer mages the main portal was closed just as a large force of devils from Dis seemed about to breach it into the Material Plane and Western Heartlands, with a particularly notable magical effort of Terri Xon of the Phoenix Company, a further hero of the undead wars of 1351 DR, who was acknowledged by Elminster himself for her efforts. The Zhentarim, without support from other factions outside of House Blackrose, were victorious and closed the secondary portal, sealing a win for their image and argument as a political force in the Western Heartlands after the war.

With the portals of the Hells closed, the Temple of Tempus in Baldur’s Gate leaves a vigilance guard at the former portal locations for the meantime, after General Scar rewarded aiding volunteer adventurers with some of the spoils of the battle, with the remaining forces gradually withdrawing and Hellriders and Zhentarim Outriders mopping up straggler devils in the areas away from the battle in the direction of their regional bases. The Lords’ Alliance, Kraak Helzak, and Zhentarim forces suffered moderate losses, but nothing severe. It seems healing from the wars against the devils will not be prolonged. On the journeys home, rally cries are heard about of “FOR THE GATE!” “FOR THE ALLIANCE!” “FOR KING AND HELZAK!” “FOR HELM AND ELTUREL” “FOR THE ZHENTARIM!” as cheers of victory in the war, but the jockeying over the post-devils political landscape now begins. Who will win the peace? If there is one for long…
