An Exorcism at the FAI

Bently Mirrorshade, accompanied by FAI guards arrested a man rumored of possession and escorted him to the house of Glittergold. Some time later there was a commotion on the Inn grounds. Fires had broken out and it appeared a minor devil - rumored to have been exorcized from the detainee - was on the loose. The lesser devil was promptly put down by a knight of the Silver Rose and some adventurers.

Riders are dispatched at speed from the Duchal Palace in Baldur's Gate. They are seen promptly delivering missives to The Red Wizard Enclave, The Order of the Radiant Heart Chapterhouse, The Order of the Silver Rose Keep, Candlekeep, as well as several well established noble and merchant houses within Baldur's Gate.

Subject: DM Rumours of the Sword Coast
DM Novus wrote:Rumor has it that Bentley Mirrorshade, proprietor of the Friendly Arm Inn, is considering doubling his guards and pushing their watch further out to the road that lines his walled hamlet.

Bentley has been grumbling to his patrons—and his wife, an unfortunate recipient of his complaints—about how business inside the hamlet, and especially inside the Inn itself, is declining in the wake of numerous violent instances upon the Tradeway, and near the entrance to his friendly inn.

He has been seen talking to the small Glittergold statue that sits above the back bar, seeking wisdom, of how best to deal with these disturbing times.
Bentley Mirrorshade stands behind the bar, a large ale mug in his hand, wiping it down and clean with a bar towel. His back is turned to the bar and Inn room proper, his head bowed as his tortured face looks toward the ale mug, humming to himself. He wipes it and wipes it, frustration oozing from his actions, as his gnomish mind works double time to calculate his next actions.

Violence upon the Tradeway near his friendly inn has deterred business to such an extent, his poor wife cries daily, worried about debts, either real or imagined.

Bentley looks upward from the cleaning of the ale mug, landing his gaze upon the Glittergold statuette above the bar. He scratches his nose, once, twice...a third time. He seems to be unable to quell the itch that bothers him...

"Devils and demons, dragons and Orcs be damned!," the gnome says out loud, the words landing on ears of the sadly few patrons within the bar room. "Gellana!," he shouts out after his wife, "...take over for me here, while I make this go a..."

His last words are unrecognizable as his opens, then shuts, the door behind him that leads down to one of the many storage rooms below the bar room. Some of the regular patrons in the Inn take a curious look to Bentley's action, as they can't remember the last time he used that door...

The tranquility inside the Cloakwood has been severely disturbed tonight, as many unnaturally ringing howls, barks and growls echoed throughout the forest. While the exact origin of these sounds was impossible to be determined, anyone hearing them was paralyzed due to sheer terror, a terror so strong as to make him or her unable to do anything but cower in fear for a few minutes. Whatever creatures had caused those noises, they suddenly stopped with the coming of dawn. Everything seems quiet again...for now.

Baldur's Gate
Several knights of the Silver Rose were seen teleporting inside the city and then moving towards the Ducal Palace, escorting a couple of adventurers with them. While the details of the happening are very scarce, the group was admitted inside the Palace without even having been summoned by the Dukes. After about an hour, the knights left the Palace with one woman less, all of them with a rather satisfied look on their faces.

Several hours later, a noblewoman (who no one had seen before inside the City) was seen heading for the poorer districts of the city, heavily escorted, and handing very generous donations to the paupers.

This apparently crazy (or benevolent) action seems to have somehow invigorated the City's diminished economy, as there is much more coin circolating amongst the streets than before. Paupers are improving their shacks with previously impossible to buy goods, and merchants are happy that there are far more buyers around.

A wanted poster is circulated throughout the gate and adjacent areas as far south as Candlekeep by Fist runners.

The four wanted posters are placed on bulletin boards in each township.

Leader: "The Ring Leader"

The first poster depicts a rather masculine looking human in a horned helmed who is wanted for heresy, worship, summoning devils and recruiting the occult. He goes by the name of "Steve" but assumes the identity of the lord of the hells himself.

Bounty: 4,000 gold crowns if alive and with evidence/confession of their identity and wrong doing.

Minion: "The Boulder"

Wanted: Devil Worship and assisting the Occult.

The second picture depicts an other planar type being with a cracked, jagged, and rock like facial features that identify many of the earth genasi race.

Bounty: 2,000 gold crowns if alive, nothing if dead.

Minion: "The Mage"

Wanted: Devil Worship and assisting the Occult.

The Third sketch depicts a cowled figure simply called the "Mage". The poster describes him as human of average height that prefers to use invisibility magics to conceal himself from authorities. He wears blackish grey robes and of fair skin.

Bounty: 2,000 gold crowns if alive, nothing if dead.

All three are considered armed and dangerous. Last known location was a disturbance at the Friendly Arm Inn under the patronage of Bentley Mirrorshade who has also filed complaint along with producing an eyewitness to the acts described. Devil worship will not be tolerated in civilized lands. Tolerance is Treason!

General message for all: (This has nothing to do with the above players who RP)

[Screenshot the acts if those are caught doing them before engaging in RP/PvP. Anyone caught by SS and put down via PvP - in a "populated" area such as townships, farmlands, and trade routes with significant assumed NPC populations - summoning undead or devil/demon worship will be given a permadeath strike by the DMs on our forum. You will be warned in game of each strike when we see you or by forum if we know your account ID. Three strikes and your character is forfeit to staff and will be forced into permanent death.
Use common sense and fight the urge to grand stand and show-off your evilness in inappropriate places unless you want to take the risks which is every players right to do so.]

Word spreads out of Berogost of a missing priest and a group of adventurers banned from the town for making the situation worse.

A sudden and loud THUNDERCLAP made many look up to the sky. And what they saw there was hard to describe. A great jet of black fumes and smoke reached up toward the roof of Faerûn, briefly shrouding the coast in darkness as it blocked out the moon.

Selûne's tears pierced the blanket of darkness and those of divine inclination would have felt a jolt of pain and misery. What's worse, under Selûne's faint light, those near burial sites and old battlefields would have witnessed the immediate rise of the dead; grasping desperately to any nearby weapons and marching toward civilised lands.

Mere minutes before all this, three robed individuals were seen entering that old mansion atop the cliffs at the Sea of Swords. Behind them an old but well braced door fell shut with a loud CLANG.

Just as the pyre of black smoke dissipated, a whispering started to grow on the wind. Unintelligible but foreboding. Many a hair stood up on many a neck as the wind grew into a loud wail of despair...

The pain and misery on the wind could almost be tasted - almost be touched. It was so rank and saturated that some fainted and gasped for air. Surely, something was very, very wrong.

Thunderstorms raged in Berogost, destroying some of there food and livestock. After the storm cleared the people set to work to repair and restore what has been lost. Word spreads of the missing priests body being recovered, and a burial set for him. The Ban was also lifted on a group that recently made a bad situation worse.

Cloakwood
An inhuman howl resonated through the Cloakwood yesterday, as a strange glassy black orb was seen flying over the woods and raising undeads everywhere and corrupting some treants. A group of adventurers managed to put the undead abominations down, but they found no traces pointing to the curious phenomenon's origins whatsoever.

The local wildlife, on the other hand, was reporterly terrified by the episode, to the point that Cloakwood's wildlife scattered all over the surrounding areas.

News from Gullykin
Image
The citizens of Gullykin now seek to promote their town to adventurers as a way-station for those seeking information of the lands around Gullykin; most notably Durlag's Tower and the Gullykin Crypts. Wine-production is at an all-time high, hin merchants from other places seek to peddle their wares to would-be dungeon-delvers, and town security is at its highest in decades.

Word quickly spread among the beleaguered citizens of Beregost of a truly horrifying discovery. During the night a large piece of human skin, apparently cut from the entire back of an adult male, was found hanging from a billboard like a limp curtain, nailed to it with a heavy iron spike. No one saw who was responsible for leaving the grisly thing, but once guards pulled it free to dispose of it they found, to everyone's horror, a message carved into the bloodied flesh with in jagged lines.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A MOMENT OF ABSOLUTE CLARITY WHERE THE CLOUDS PART AND EVERYTHING FALLS INTO PLACE I HAVE AND THAT WAS A MOMENT OF UTTER TERROR FOR ME THE EYE WATCHES FROM BEYOND THE VOID WE BAND OF FOOLS CALLED OUT TO ANOTHER WE HAD HOPED TO CALL MASTER BUT DARKNESS BEYOND OUR COMPREHENSION IS WHAT ANSWERED INSTEAD THE EMBRACE OF THE ABYSS THE GNASHING FANGS OF ITS INFINITE LEGIONS ARE A MERCY COMPARED TO WHAT WE HAVE BROUGHT UPON THIS WORLD HOPE FOR SALVATION WITHERED IN THE THROES OF MADNESS WE CAN DO NAUGHT BUT SCREAM AND DIE
Needless to say, the resident temple of Lathander noted a considerable increase in parishioners that morning.

Beregost

A half-elvem woman claiming allegiance to the Silver Shield received a rough treatment by the Captain of the local garrison after having refused to comply with the captain's orders to clear the way, opting to give him snide remarks instead and masking her face with a hood and a scarf.

The half-elven woman was given a few punches, then dragged to the stables, then literally thrown into a trug full of manure, before being kicked out of town, guards and townsfolk laughing at her.

Some people in Beregost are already starting to derisively refer to the woman's mercenary group as "the Stinky Shield" because of this incident.
