Background:
Magnus was born to the leader of a small offshoot of the Blue Bear tribe. This group fled rather than be dominated as the bear totem was replaced by a demon as his family was warned by a cleric and unlike others, listened to the outsider.
His family group remained dedicated to honouring the bear, knowing they had no chance of destroying the usurper but unwilling to cut the bonds. The last shaman among them, maybe broken by the loss of his beastlord, thought to "regrow" a symbol of their totem and have it sanctified by Uthgar. Their leader offered up his son as the vessel.
He was raised on the fringes of civilized lands as his family eked out an existence in solitude from their people knowing the other tribes, particularly the savage Black Raven and Red Tiger would kill them on site for being part of the cursed tribe. They kept to themselves in the deep forests, but, through necessity, mixed with those folk from the cities on the coast who had headed inland to find new land sought to cut out a new life from the forests. The type of people who their tribe had preyed on and warred with not so long ago. Some he even befriended and learned the common tongue and basic understanding of the civilised world outside his harsh existence.
As he reached maturity the shaman, and a strange wood-witch that had decided to help the old man in his work, began tattooed the young man in fine rune tattoos and dousing him in strange oils and muds. They said this would help call some of the shattered facets of their bear totems spirit, lost when it was destroyed by the demon, back into this realm in him. This continued over years until almost all of him was covered except for the centre of his chest. He listened and asked and took some of the knowledge the shaman applied with him.
Eventually, the Red Tiger tribe found them in their forest hide. And in a night of blood and flames all were killed save Magnus (as far as he knew). Magnus took off to the southwest and did not stop till a wagon he was guarding broke an axle in the mud outside Baldurs Gate.
Goals:
Now: Survive and grow strong
Future: Seek the knowledge to continue the work of the shaman and bring back some of his lost totem
Long future: destroy the demon who killed the blue bear (not in BG server area however)
