I was going for a ranger that could stand up in melee without sneaking.
Doesn't a strength-based ranger have AC trouble? Remember, in medium or heavy armor he can't use his weapon style feats. If Strength-ranger worked I'd have made a dual-scimitar ranger/weapon master so long ago, those crits would be amazing.

Just go Ranger 30 dude. Strength based. Make him a wood elf, stop Dex at 16 or 17. Pick ICE if you need more AC. Remember, there's nothing stopping you using a shield in times of need.

So you pick other classes and Feats to make up. But generally for a Str based TWFer, GTWF is enough, and you can get that via Tempest without the restrictions. Don't listen to AC81, his characters have AC18. :p

You just RP being a ranger and that's ok! Pump up those survival and geography skills, make sure everyone knows about your favorite ennemy, camp in the forest, eat rabbits on a stick, keep a 4-5 days beard on all the time, put a hood on when it rains, cast a spell once in a while, keep that animal companion close, and...

BAM!

Ranger build!

:D

Hm. Is a Fighter 15/Druid 15 the same thing as a Ranger 30?

Okay, I'll look at that, thanks

...Okay, I'm looking at this, Steve, and it's actually perfect. Maybe it isn't a ranger, but the comment about rangers being not-exactly-social is true. It looks like damage isn't too dependent on Sneak Attack either, so I'll probably just use this. Thank you so much (again), I love this.

Great.

I want to follow up on something, which is relevant to the build: it requires good gear...maybe even—as Thorsson argues correctly—Epic Gear...to be top-of-the-line.

But I would argue that is the case for ALL MELEE BUILDS, in general, on BGTSCC.

If one is without Epic Gear, or does not wish to twink, or does not wish to spend 4 years of gaming on BGTSCC to acquire a full set of Epic Gear, or doesn't have friends who rage quit the Server and donate all their epic gear to you, then...I advise you to play a Cleric. Or a bard.

My opinion though is shoot for the moon, but be happy to settle for what you have, at the time.

But dammit fearknight...you gotta stick with a toon for at least a week! lol. 8-)

Sorry! I'm indecisive, bad at NWN2, and have a short attention span.

Also...
It isn't letting me take Oversized Two-Weapon at 2nd level. Can you explain?

It should be, as per the Custom Feats list for BGTSCC, as it only requires TWF and STR 13.

But if not, then switch out Dodge feat for it, and take on lvl 4, and if you can't take on lvl 4, take Mobility and take on lvl 6

To me, it's pretty similar. ;)

Just like a (paladin) cleric 15 / fighter 15 of Torm, fighting with a 2handed sword! :D

And a barbarian is a Fighter 15/Ranger 15 with a 2hand axe?

For the build that Steve posted, I'd definitely go F14/R4 over F12/R6. Also, the AC calculations are based on 6 AC points from IMA and Shield wands. Currently this build will get dispelled by everyone ... I wouldn't count on those 6 points of AC hanging around for long. I would also try to finish strength on an odd number, same reason. Dispels will hurt and get expensive.
I personally think Steve's trying to stitch you up, he'll give you a heap of bad options and then tell you your only option left is monk ... ;)

BTW, have you tried a monk build, they go okay ...

I would never....

But AC is right on the +6 wand AC, so for that build, you could leave off the epic STR, take Armor Skin instead, and use ICE (the AB is high enough).
