I recently played with Xeyn and he had the ability guarding the Lord or something similar.
I really liked it so I checked out the classes that have it.
My first question is, what's the duration of that ability/spell as it can "only" be used 3 times a day?
And then in the wiki it says man at arms get it at 6 according to the table while in the description it says they get it at 2...let me know what's right then I'll adjust it in the wiki
If I remember correctly, I got it at level 2 MAA. Never got extra when levelling up Thayan.
I only have 3 uses of it, even though both classes meant to give 3 each.
It tends to disappear for me if the person I am guarding gets a little bit too far away from me, the exact measure is tough to be precise on, but PM me and I can show you in the game.
In game, account is: Eawd

Which can be... a pain. A pain to the point of making it nearly useless to use. I have Guarding the Lord with my body guard levels on my alt, Heron. In practical use, unless the person you're guarding is within a very small radius of your person, it drops off. This is a fix from long ago when guarding the lord could literally transcend death itself, apparently- as my husband once had it, and recollects taking damage in the fugue because the one he was guarding was taking damage. In the current incarnation it's just literally too impractical given the nature of how everyone moves around in groups, and how you're guarded person is going to be out of range in no time. So to use it practically, I can only assume you wait until you've got a big nasty where you can bunch up together, and then you cast it?
That said, Guarding the Lord is a fabulous RP tool.

My in game account is Eawd if you want to see how short the distance is.
Great rp tool though!

Eh, I made changes months ago to shield other spell to make that ability better for the guys who have Guarding the lord feat (ie better distance). But their ability used another script even if it was pure copy paste... these posts made me check and next update the distance will be much more playable for Guarding the Lord ability.
I had this on another server. It was fun, but deadly (to one's self). I think they had tinkered with the range, so that it was within 50 feet, rather than 30. Not 100% sure, though.
Quick question about Guard The Lord: does Damage Reduction work for the damage transferred to the caster? e.g.: Target gets hit for 10 damage, the target takes only 3, and the caster takes 5. If the caster has DR 5/-, will he take the 5 points of damage? Or will it be reduced?
While we're on the topic, I have a related question:
The Protective Aura ability says it gives a Deflection bonus. (As per the Wiki). Does this particular bonus stack with other Deflection bonuses, which normally do not stack?
I thought I had seen a Kaerdrin modification of this to a +1 AC dodge or luck bonus, so it would benefit pretty much everyone.
If they do not stack, then this PrC strikes me as pretty much role play only, since the first protective magic items a character gets is a Deflection bonus, with an okay capstone ability at BG5.
