medium and heavy armor get elemental resistance...
long ago, i considered suggesting iron armors get a 20% or even 50% malus against electricity, but i did not suggest it because it is not dnd rules.
then i read the update logs, and see a while back, medium and heavy armors get elemental resistance, because evasion and improved was "changed" to only be allowed in no or light armor.
i disagree with the change, but whatever... dudes in full plate doing survival rolls to dodge fireballs...
..but i *really* dont think iron armor should be getting resistance to electricty.
so i am simply proposing the elemental resistance for iron armors does not include electricity.

Re: medium and heavy armor get elemental resistance...
change was to try and avoid SOME of the issue of heavy/medium armors becoming useless. If all the Mithral Full Plates listed at auction for 200K and then NOT SELLING is any indication I would say it failed. Pretty much everyone just gives up the 1 AC so they can wear Mithral Chainmail and still have their evasion cheese.
If anything we need to re-examine what can be done to make Heavy/Medium armors more interesting/desirable... adding a penalty to them would be the opposite of that.

its not a penalty, its removing one of the resistances that were added.chad878262 wrote:change was to try and avoid SOME of the issue of heavy/medium armors becoming useless. and the mithral full plates do sell. i dont think that will ever be an issue.
talk about useless though, adamantine armors, more rare and more prized than mithral by heavy armor users, is basically useless because of all the dr feats or spells.
maybe increase/double the dr feat for heavy armor. i dunno.

Or allow the DR to stack?

DR stacking is apparently fairly difficult. We discussed giving some level of physical immunity, but there were concerns around possible stacking and becoming 'immune' to damage.

Re: medium and heavy armor get elemental resistance...
Not All Armors get the % elemental resistance. It is added as a feat to some classes on level 8 ( i think ) for classes such as Fighter and paladin. Bards for example dont get it.

But MBP is 5/5, so they don't need to invest as much Dex and still get the same AC. Or am I missing something?chad878262 wrote:Nope, mithral chain is 6/4 now...

You just said it

Mithral breastplate needs 20 modified dex to work optimally.
Mithral chainmail needs 18 dex to work optimally.

Why would they?NeOmega wrote:... iron armors get a 20% or even 50% malus against electricity ...
If the answer is "That's the trope" then I'll take my pocket protector and lab coat and go elsewhere. On the other hand, if you're aiming for a degree of pseudo-realism then: Metal armours should provide protection from electrical attacks, well, full suits certainly, just a breastplate... not so much.
An electrical current given the choice of passing through a piece of iron or your squishy, skin covered, bone filled, poorly conductive, body is very much going to favour the iron so relatively little will pass through you; combine this with the fact that you're generally going to be wearing a poorly conductive, gambeson or similar under your armour and the odds are you won't be touched at all.
Consideration for burns caused by resistive heating from multiple strikes is an exercise left to the interested reader.
And a cutesy video on the topic.

I am not sure I'd want to increase my chances of getting hit by wearing a full suit, honestly. It's interesting, but kind of silly to say being in a full suit would make you safer. Also, notice he calls it a "welded" suit of armor. Because if the armor is not connected, you are going to have jumps, that will fry everything near them. If you are wearing a breast plate and metal knee pads... ...you aint making any more babies.
