How is Epic Gate Unbuffed at Endgame.

Unread post by Tekill »

So at 29th level I apparently have a spare feat.
I was thinking on taking Epic Gate. But, I am unfamiliar with how powerful the summons are and I would not really be able to throw any buffs on said summons. So, is an unbuffed Epic Gate Summons very useful for say level 30 ranged pvp, bosses zones etc?

For regular summons I feel they need buffs in order to survive. Is it the same with Epic Gate?

*edit- couple hours later * Yeah so I just searched the forum. I probably should have just done that before posting. So, 40 rds, creates a 2nd after the 1st dies- really not a spell to dump a lot of buffs on. Folk seem to like the spell. Probably a good 'oh poop' spell for my warlock...its this or another D6 of blast damage which wouldnt be as much fun.
I know next to nothing about Dusty Tombs and named summons but Epic Gate can be used with the whole named summons feature- is that true?

Regarding Epic Gate, the fact that the thing respawns once after dying is what makes it valuable IMHO.

You can buff up your summon just a tiny bit - send it in - and watch as it does some damage before getting dispelled and killed. Being dispelled means you won't be.

It can also be used in DM events to great effect if the DM is willing to comply.

It shouldn't spawn a second tme no, one time epic gate summons are quite enough.

Unbuffed, it fairs fairly well against mobs. It doesn't generally last long enough for most grind areas. I find it is most useful against a single boss, fully buffed. Against weaker bosses (alone) like Chaos and sometimes the Frost Giant King, it does fairly well as long as you are casting spells alongside it. Against stronger bosses, as long as you have a party, it gives you a decent contribution.

Mind you, I only have really tested it with Epic Skill (Spell!) Focus: Conjuration and Full Thaumaturge Levels. I imagine it would be a fair bit weaker without the investment. So take my fondness of it with a grain of salt, too.

Okay thanks for the feedback on this spell.
My take away here is that if I want this spell to be decent I am going to want to invest feats into it, and maybe have a couple buffs to throw on it.

Otherwise its okay.

I will try it in Jegs see how it goes.

Thanks. :happy-wavemulticolor: :orcs-whip:

You likely already know this, but the high CR enemies in JEGS are not really indicative of anything you'll likely face on the live server. Generally I consider anything able to handle JEGS CR 24 or 25 enemies as a pretty strong build and anything above that is just gravy.

Yeow!

Test #1: Inconclusive-
I cranked it up to CR 28-30, which summoned a pack of super orcs. I charged into the middle of the room with invisibility up. I Cast Epic Gate- and nothing happened except for becoming viable...and then being swarmed...

So Epic Gate is not casting in the Oct 2017 version of Jegs - is there a newer version I need to use or what am I missing here?

Summoning spells won't work on JEGS. Also CR 28-30 in JEGS has absolutely no equivalent in the server, for us it would be CR 40 (then people say the server is hard >_>). If you can beat CR 20-23 creatures in JEGS you're fine for the server.

Not if you want to solo BGTSCC Bosses. And THAT is endgame kinda stuff, yes?

Compare the AB of creatures in JEGS to bosses :)

Is Epic Spell: Dragon Knight a thing here? It is on JEGs and I was able to summon it- i.e. it worked for me, and it is better than the Epic Spell: Epic Gate.
