Best Favored Enemies? (Overworld, good-aligned)

Unread post by Khazrak »

Playing a Cavalier. What're the best favored enemies for mid to endgame content? I have Undead already, and am considering taking Elf for possible clashes with Drow.

Giant & Outsider are possibilities (soooo many areas have giants, and there is [was?] an epic area of the 1st Layer of Baator, Avernus, available for adventuring, not to mention quite a few epic demon/devil bosses etc). Elf is a possibility if you plan on PvPing drow.

I would say Orc as well, not only for PvP but also a few mob areas and for events purpose. Plus, who likes an Orc, I mean a real Orc and not the huggy bear variety :snooty:

Wyverns are Dragons, and a lot of bosses are Dragons. Some say they are not worth it, but I do like slaying some dragons. Oh, and in DM events, you tend to go to dungeons where there are dragons, because well, dungeons and dragons.

So: Undead, Monstrous Humanoids OR Giant, Outsider, Dragon, Elf - pretty solid set? I only get 5 favored enemies.

Alternatively, could replace Elf with Orc to PvP orcs, but there's less orcs than Drow.

Orcs and Drow are the two favorite 'enemy' races to surface players, interpreting to "Elves" and "Half-Orcs" I do believe, as full orc isn't a playable race AFAIK.

Also keep in mind, half elves as 'half drow'. In PNP systems I've used, if you're a half elf, you're vulnerable to human FE AND elf FE, same with orc being vulnerable to orc AND half orc FE. The benefits of a half race also contribute to the penalties, but this doesn't seem to be the in game case for NWN2 engine.

I would deff suggest Giant as first and foremost since this includes trolls and ogres as well as giants (many of the higher end zones). Goblinoids includes goblins, cloakwood mines, goblins north of beregost as well as xvarts (level 6-20 essentially). After that, end game content, Dragons are completely viable as well as undead, or monstrous humanoids/orcs, but I can't make such a big recommendation because I'm not that far yet.

Is there a way to test how favored enemies(half race/full race) interact with half /full race damage. And if grey orc is orc or half orc?

Vordan's Hero Creator, it allows you to spawn a copy of your own character. So just roll various ranger characters of different races to try it out.

No need for VHC, when we have a copy (tailored specifically to BGTSCC) of Jegg's: https://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=49324

Could you tell me how I can get it to spawn a creature of a specific race? For me, the punching bag thing doesn't even work. In VHC you can just spawn a copy of your own character. Hence, you create a ranger with random favored enemies and have the two duke it out. You de-level, and level up, and switch one specific favored enemy every time. This way you can find out what favored enemies count grey-orcs as one.

You could even just make a 10 strength unarmed ranger to try it out, because then the Favored Enemey damage really stands out, especially with bane of enemies.
