A parchment scroll is hand delivered to the Halls of Inner Light by way of courier sent from the Radiant Heart Chapterhouse. Telltale golden ribbon paired with the distinctive gold wax and the noble sigil impressed upon it announce the sender as Lord Eldarian Al'maire. Carefully penned in a masculine hand, the name of the recipient is lettered on the outside of the scroll that is passed from messenger to temple attendant and carried within.

Meanwhile, in the Fest Hall, a hooded woman swoons so hard she nearly faints, because this is the first time anyone's ever sent her a letter in her life.

E'amrae fresh from her reverie within the small orchard outside of the temple gathers herself and walks inside. The golden band she used to wear as a circlet has eroded from wear and travel to the point it has now come apart. She looks at it, there in her hand wistfully, silently mourning the passing of her old life. Her attire, like the circlet is worse for wear as well as various joints and stitching in her padded armor are simply coming apart. She looks up at the ceiling allowing her eyes to graze on its' soothing architecture. After a moment she finds a quiet center and is reminded of the caterpillar's fate.

Soon she finds herself down in the mess hall, slowly enjoying some cold Bread of Corn and leftover stew. Her fingers flip through the notebook she has been keeping, and it is beginning to show signs of erosion as well. On the table is a book that underscores the lore and cultures of the "mainland" realms. She looks up hoping to see Aniel and smiles momentarily at the memory of her antics last night.

It is here that she waits to catch a glimpse of Juno or Gemma, to set about her agenda for today. One of the first days of her new life.

As has become something of a daily regularity for Gemma, a ritual in fact, the hooded woman rises just before the dawn and scurries out to meet it for her morning prayers. As soon as it concludes, she hurries back into the Fest Hall kitchen to prepare food and sermons for whomever may be going hungry, whether literally or spiritually.

With the cooking out of the way, this time chicken and vegetable soup and fresh cornbread, the hooded woman leaves the Halls to walk the streets and roads, probably looking for people to accost with offers of healing and pep-talks.

Gem, with the indispensable assistance of two heroic disciples in the form of E'amrae and Jadoth, has created a rather large batch of spiced apple muffins, using apples from the orchard and no shortage of cinnamon. The entire Fest Hall now smells like fresh apple pie, and there are several dozen large muffins as a result, each studded with little apple bits.

E'amrae worked as diligently as she could, stepping in when she felt competent and knowing when to stand back and listen. She clearly had never worked inside of a kitchen before but eventually found a place in which she could assist with directions and even exchanged some lighthearted banter with Sister Gemma and Jadoth ((unless refuted)).

Afterwards she headed to the bathhouse and washed herself as well as could be, put a clean apron on and began the task of cleaning the kitchen. Starting with the dishes first, then wiping all surfaces and finally the floors which she scrubbed and mopped on her hands and knees. She took small breaks only long enough to stay hydrated and arrange her sweaty hair into a clip to keep it from her eyes.

After the kitchen was finished she moved into the festhall, making sure surfaces were free and clear, bread baskets were refilled and any refuse hidden underneath tables were put in proper receptacles. An old elven folk-song of Pursuing the Night's sky was on her lips as she worked. Her mind wandered to Aniel, and she was unable to smile in admiration of her rugged charms and individuality. Then she thought of Laeria, so strong and stoic, but holding a warmth and kindness that emboldened E'amrae. Also there was Tialysana, who had a settling presence about her, it was in her that E'amrae saw herself the most. Finally Sister Gemma, who is able to love so effortlessly its' infectious nature spread to all around her. How she felt so grounded when near sweet Gemma.

Stopping for a moment the dark headed moon elf looked around, as the busy Hall took on a new life once the sun arose. Acolytes and worshipers bustled about, immersed in their purposes and lives. There was a sense of real healing here, despite the differences of many. It was then she began to feel an ease to the separation which clung to her since she stepped aboard The Gluttonous Goblin. With it came a whispered song of contentedness. . .and hope.

Late into the previous evening, a large donation of fresh fish was made from a trusted source that wished to remain anonymous. Baffled at first, particularly by the bizarre creature with eight tentacles, Gem found space for the exceedingly-large catch in an icebox somewhere. Despite having seen its like before, Gem couldn't recall the name of the tentacled abomination, but it definitely reminded her too much of that one beholder she met who turned her into a statue in the middle of its treasure pile for a solid hour before her friends caught up with her... Octopus, that's right, tentacles are not eye-stalks.

After her morning rituals, Gem poured over cookbooks, looking for various recipes that would complement each other appropriately in order to use this donation to fabricate a fabulous fish feast. While musing over recipes, Gemma assisted acolytes in their chores so as to ensure that when she inevitably pulled them away to assist her, their tasks weren't left incomplete. With a small gathering of 'kitchen staff' assembled, quite possibly including her faithful cooking companion E'amrae, lil' Gemdoodle began fully fleshing out her formula for a fabulous fish feast.

She had trout, she had bass, she had grunt, she had grouper, she had crab, she had... relax, it's not a disgusting baby beholder. Recipes were discussed, materials were gathered, and the fate of the fish was decided. Some would be used to create soup, some would become part of a fish-fry, and others still would become a part of a jambalaya-type throw-together consisting of other assorted leftovers now being given new life as part of a big savory dish. Suffice to say the Fest Hall kitchen was bustling with activity. By mid-afternoon, fresh bread was baked, fruit and vegetable salads were prepared, and the three large aforementioned dishes were completed.

Gem's work wasn't yet finished however, as she still had to borrow the time and hands of a few acolytes to ensure that this large bounty of food was put to good use, as she hadn't made it for herself.

Naturally, a portion remained behind at the Halls for any hungry souls who came through its doors.

Another went to the Church of Ilmater as a donation, as they would surely do their part to assist in its dispersal to needy bellies, and hopefully enjoy some themselves.

Yet another large portion found its way to the Children of Mercy orphanage nearby, along with a large covered platter of spiced apple muffins that Gem had reserved for the children.

The final portion was directed to and through the docks district, where the population of poor and hungry has always been disproportionately larger. Naturally, Gem tries to twist the arms of her friends at the Muse to help with this task.

One particularly large fish, however, was spared this fate and left in the icebox, as a condition of the donation was that Gem keep it to prepare a meal for herself and a friend or two, and so there it remained for now. Still, the hooded woman sighs softly in contentment after all of that walking and delivering and 'just take the food already', before slipping away some place quiet for a nap.

Cosimo is indeed hijacked to take part in this distribution in the harbour district. He sticks close to Gem during the distribution, and is fully warded with non-visible wards.

A finely dressed Blond man in blue garb accompanies the woman on her humanitarian errand after she arrives to request his aid at the Minstrel's Muse.

He acts as her workhorse for the day, carrying heavy things, distributing meals, and doing anything else the laypriestess of the Morninglord asks of him. Without being asked, he also stands vigilant for any threats that may approach and rear their ugly heads toward her act of kindness. He seems a bit simple and almost aloof, but there's something about him that leaves no doubt he would be capable of defending himself and others in the presence of a threat.

After the Harbor's hungry are fed, he accompanies the laypriestess for the remainder of the day on her duties, even going to check up on the Orphanage again, where he sits and speaks some with children about things he's seen throughout the land. The man's very literal nature and simple manner of speaking seem to make it easier for him to understand and converse with children than adults.

When the errand is finished, he returns to his duties at the Muse.

By night E'amrae was pouring herself into training, by day she wrung herself out assisting with the affairs of The Halls. Always at Sister Gemma's side it seemed, the moon elf was an eager participant to whatever needed doing.

The mundane chores and tedious legwork were satisfying in their own right, but it was the face to face interaction with the needful citizens that brought the best out of her. Whenever a beggar or homeless person reached out, she was there (unless Sister Gemma beat her to it) kneeling with them, praying, even crying over lost loved ones. Lower class familes that were dealing with the sick she faithfully engaged and delivered ready to eat meals to their tables. To anyone else and under direction from her guide she distributed the provisions as allowed and often added a little extra of her own purse on the side.

She loved working in service to something benevolent and meaningful. Doing so with a sense of security as Nathan and Cosimo were always in line of sight. E'amrae had never felt so alive, giving her life to something greater than herself.

After the days events had concluded and the farewells shared amongst old and emerging friends, she would spend the very last drop of endurance she had to tending to The Festhall.

Her Reveries have never been sweeter.

Departing the heavy gates of the Order of the Radiant Heart's Chapterhouse, a messenger bends his way north along the short roads leading to the entrance of the Palace District of Baldur's Gate. He carries with him a letter flawlessly rolled and sealed with the signature golden wax and noble sigil of Lord Eldarian Al'maire. Gold edged ribbon binds the parchment securely in the grasp of its courier as he cuts a course toward the Halls of Inner Light to complete the task of delivery. Once he has passed the missive to one of the temple's own, he murmurs its intended viewer and turns to depart.

A most bedraggled and laboring urchin boy arrives at the door to the Halls of Inner Light with a parchment wadded and stained with the same lather that smudges the lad's brow. He presents the abused note to whomever will receive it and loudly instructs its intention for the High Lady Juno Serra. He waits for her receipt.

The High Lady is readily summoned from the Halls' sideyard, clad in a leather gambeson and sleeves of fine golden chain. Skin glowing with the faint sheen of sweat, she dabs a linen towel along her brow as she strides into the foyer, ready to receive the messenger and his crumpled missive.

A curious smile is leveled at the boy as she picks apart the crushed parchment and pulls it taut, eyes falling to scan the words written there. The smile broadens, and dimples, and allows the passage of a soft laugh. The letter is once again crumpled and tucked carefully away into a bracer as the lady kneels, looking the boy in the eye as her lips part into a radiant grin.

"That's a job well done. Would you care to have a refreshment with me? I am very thirsty."

After sending for some fresh water and a snack of fruit, nuts, and cheese, the boy would be invited to sit with the High Lady under the trees of the orchard before farewells are made.

Aniel had no idea what had come over her lately. The scrabby elf never had any appreciation for the fancy people at the Palace district, especially not when they dared to set foot in her quarter, a place for simple and humble people who just try to live from day to day. She had lived this life for a long enough time to come to her own conclusions about charity efforts by nobles, usually a cheap way to make them feel less sick about their selves and their decadent lifestyle.
She had heard about the open kitchen at the Hall of Inner Light before, but who, she thought, of those in real need would walk the walk of shame through the noble quarter, enter this fancy place and ask for a meal under the pitiful scrutiny of those who fared so much better than them? Dignity is a precious good, and often the last thing one couldn't sell for a loaf of bread.

It was E'amrae (or Emy, Emry, Eamy to list just a few of Aniel's shorts for her) who dragged her into these Halls after a party involving robbed dignity and way too much drinking in the aftermath. She hadn' had any idea why Eamy would want to work at the Hall in the first place, and now she had for sure no idea why she would apologize for something she hadn't done.
Arriving at the Halls, Aniel quickly discovered that it must be Gemma, the good, selfless soul in the kitchen of the Halls, and she was struck by this womans humble, idealistic, not self-serving efforts just to make things a little better and peaceful. She was no nob, no two-face, and when Gemma even trusted her so much after knowing Aniel for such a short time that she revealed her secrets, she decided that, nobs, or not, she wanted to give something back, just a gesture of appreciation and a big thank you to her new friends. Of course under tight conditions...
