DM Spartacus wrote:An additional 20 refugees have arrived more alarmingly from much nearer to home in the farmlands, claiming sightings in the night of flaming and burning Devils rampaging through their fields.
As Aaron Lyonaler busied himself checking over the food and goods supplies, casting detect poison and detect magic over the stockpiles, just to ensure no nerdowells managed to get up to any shenanigans, he took notice of the new arrivals.

The Knight would take some time to speak with the arrivals, especially questioning the ones from closer to home, asking them for more details on their stories of devils. If he could he would try to get the number of devils and the distance they were from the refugee camp. In this he would try to discern if a sudden call to arms is necessary to answer this threat or if a group could be formed of any that would answer the call, to go forth and deal with them.

DM Spartacus wrote:Where he finds food and willingness he is able to check the stock is good. He moves to the more local arrivals and find them a little evasive. But on closer questioning it appears they heard about a danger, and only one of the company saw something burning at night, and he is less certain what. They definitely heard about a traveller (not present) a few weeks back who saw what is described as devil on fire, out roaming the land. His overall assessment is there is no immediate local threat and these individuals, tip of the iceberg as they may be have run off a little early for sure.
The Knight would then go about informing those of the various organizations, that have members guarding the refugees who may have heard the rumors from some of the refugees of devils nearby, to inform them of what some of the spooked refugees told him, but no immediate danger seems present. Though, to keep their vigil up.

Elegantly clad figures move through the crowd of refugees handing out bread and some copper coins to each able bodied person they see encouraging them that work would soon to be had for any who wished. It would be hard work they would say but pay would be good and they would be allowed to start a township around the mine if they wished as well. Brandishing silver weaponry they assured the refugees they would be protected as well. A smallish man dressed in fine midnight purple clothing with bright red hair and ash colored skin could be seen directing the figures. A small hint of sulphur followed him as he went.

Henryk of Knights-errant, of the Holy Judgement, Sword of Justice for the Even Handed God, continues his near-daily training of those militia of Tymount and other townspeople and the children AND openly accepts the interested new refugees from the Hamlets.

The hustle and bustle of the refugee camp—still unspoken of in total number and to what social-political direction it forms—surrounds the actions of the knight of the sword, but it deters him not, for his focus is empowering those that seek to gain from a combination of melee training and spiritual growth...in the Truth of Tyr's dogma.

At the end of this particular day of training, he publicly speaks, to his group, and to those that may overhear in the passing by:

"It is true, that this day, I sit more calmly that days before...for I have been told by the Grand Knight Arkalis of the Radiant Heart, and seconded by his second in command, the knight-strategist Lyonaler, that the Flaming Fist and the Watch of Baldur's Gate do oversee order and Law within this camp...and thus, you men of the Tymount militia, and you others that seek to gain training in skill to find Way to vengeance for your loss, I pass on to you the moment in that you may relax and concentrate, concentrate upon your training, and worry not about any chaos or disturbance in this camp, for the greater forces that reside in Baldur's Gate must be doing their part in protecting thee. As it is said to me by the more connected and the wiser in relationship to the Gate city...."

As no others have stepped into a side path with Henryk to train and empower the people of Tymount and any others in skills such as swordplay and Faith training, he, Henryk, continues at the slow pace...undaunted.

IC: The training lessons continue, and Henryk's core of trainees are progressing day by day.

Solomon, Luckbringer of Tymora can be seen recently walking among the refugee camp. He asks the people how they are doing and what can be done to ease their stay. He offers blessings and small sermons to those that wish it. While talking with them he asks around about any artisans or craftsmen among the camp. He questions the people about any tailors, blacksmiths, apothecaries, stable masters and the like within the refugee population.

If pointed in any directions he says this to the craftsman, “Hello and good day to you.” He smiles wide. “Today is your lucky day. Have you ever heard of the realm of Greenest? It sits upon the Greenfields the most beautiful and fertile land you'll ever see. It is ran by the most benevolent, most kind, Queen Scatterheart. She offers work to those that wish it and promises room for you and your family. It is a new beginning, a fresh start. A place to settle and grow your craft as well as your family under the banner of her Grace, Queen Scatterheart. You'll be expected to do your part to solidify her realm through your craft, though I see that you are ready for such a challenge!”

Solomon would offer help in relocating any craftsman that wished to start anew in Queen Scatterheart's kingdom. He would mention that Rocky Creek Trade Company would offer gold to help ease the burden of the move. He would ask that any interested send word for him, or his associate Jackard Marks at the Greenest Inn. After which they could meet and talk about the craftsman's fit within the kingdom.

Every few days they return passing out a bit of bread and some coins to refugees. The same message to each they talk to. Always would be said though that stood out was that the bread and coin was courtesy The Golden Arrow company.

The camp has swollen to over five hundred people now, even with some of the Tymount refugees, those lucky enough to have friends and family to rely on, trickling away.

The camp remains somewhat threadbare, a tent city rather than something more permanent: the influx of new refugees having thrown preparations off. However, thanks to the efforts of strong arms and backs on the part of members of the Radiant Heart and Northern Watch, sanitation is good.

The Ilmatari are a constant sight in the camp, including daily visits by the elderly Father Marcus. He seems to be quietly arranging the flow of supplies, an old hand at crises such as these. Ilmatari donations seem to have covered the swelling of the camp in the short term, but the Adorned openly ask passers by for what aid they might give in alms to the refugees.

It does not take an expert to deduce that food and the coming winter are both problems facing the camp.

Jackard and Solomon, of the Rocky Creek Trade Company, were witnessed delivering another load of fish from the Chionthar to the victims in the refugee camp, a load of similar size to the last. The fish were brought up river from Ulgoth's Beard, purchased there and delivered without fee - a sign of the men's charity.

It is heard that they will continue what little they can do on a regular basis. Perhaps twice a month, if the bounty continues.

The Lieutenant of the Northern Watch continues her hard work, a duality unabated, at the behest of her masters. In times of rest, Borte-Suul lingers closer to the bivouac than is her norm. It would seem that she is acclimating to the place, though her countenance speaks anything but! Still, the elfin shoos people away from her; still, the lines of unease crease her face.

When opportunity allows, she is seen not vacating the premises to smoke. She approaches a veteran guardsman or paladin on-site to relay some concerns regarding the recruiters filtering in and out of the camp. She likewise finds the time to commune with an available disciple of Ilmater and Ser Arkalis to further disseminate the information, fully understanding its weight.

She returns to her duties in a burgeoned silence thereafter, her gaze transfixed by the furtive, the anomalous, and all else. There are no efforts made to disrupt the comings and goings of any outsider. This woman knows her place: she cannot legally enforce anything, so she instead commits herself to vigilance as a boon for the reigning authority here.

(((OOC: approved by DM Golem)))

IC: The Ilmatari listen carefully and patiently to Borte-Suul. They seem somewhat concerned by her words.
Once-strong and proud strangeling, now broken upon realization's back!

IC: Seeing a knight in action does draw a crowd of youth. Turnout is good from militia and have a go heroes at first, although the Tyrran slant and manner turns some off. The ones that remain, however, are committed to learning from the paladin, and progress is made in bettering their skills.

IC: The presence of paladins, watchmen and the militia - including the presence of Hynryk -
are keeping the camp surprisingly orderly. In fact, Hynryk's attempts to keep the peace are well received.

He does have to deal with a couple of the children following him, wanting to play "Squires" until their parents chase them away and apologise.

IC: The training continues, the group having ten active members who are benefitting from the intensive lessons Hynryk offers.

The lesson with the children goes down very well with the children (so much so, Sister Rachel comes by to help keep order among the throng), and with their parents. It does much to soften the paladin's image to the people of Tymount, and they seem a shade more receptive to his sermons after this.

IC: The training lessons continue, and Henryk's core of trainees are progressing day by day.

DM Golem wrote:...the camp remains somewhat threadbare, a tent city rather than something more permanent...It does not take an expert to deduce that food and the coming winter are both problems facing the camp.
The knight-errant in service to the New Church of Tyr in Baldur's Gate, Henryk, continues his focus of training for the milita of Tymount, of whom he now affectionately refers to as The Tymount Ten of Tyr's Justice—it is a mouthful, but like most statements that come from verbal interaction with the crusader in the name of the Just God.

Though great focus is placed in his "work," Henryk does not remain blind to the conditions that arrive in the Refugee Camp, now that the population has swelled to such a great amount it becomes a greater and greater difficulty to oversee with adequate care. As the weather changes toward the upcoming winter season, those that understand conditions of suffering imposed upon the poor and homeless, may well realize that a troubling time is yet to come...unless more is done to reverse this situation, to better establish conditions in the Farmlands, or, make move to return the Tymountians to their true home...a thought that may give Henryk in particular, added urgency in his training of The Tymount Ten, for should this latter action happen, the Tymountians will need a greater devoted defense, with a greater military mind and better skill in swordsmanship.

And, Henryk is well aware that the New Church of Tyr within Baldur's Gate operates with the most minimal of personal and faithful, both in prayer and in military force, thus he can little ask of it to spare much...taking upon himself a burden to provide as much as he can, beyond his own bare sustenance in these times. Henryk remains strict, focused, yet charitable, and...cheerful...as much as such staunch "militancy" of Faith in lawfulness and pride in faith, is interpreted by others.

And so at one point, in the last Tenday, in the small encampment within the Camp from which Henryk trains the Ten and at times entertains the children who dream of an empowered future of knightly actions and moral guidance in Faith, he offers a new calendar of sorts, to his trainees:

"You of the Tymount Ten rise in skill and soon shall make a choice in which to take Faith into your training, your position to state in which you allow the grace and divinity of the Gods to enter into your prowess...for if you do, you will be given a gift, and with that gift, you may give back in return by protecting your people, under all that is Lawful, under all that is Good.

So to this I will also offer you a gift, if it is the will of the Even Handed, and I am graced with success. It will be this, then: each Tenday, I will train your for two days back-to-back, then, I will keep to my course and wander the land for three days, and re-take from the Wilds and the chaotic beings that have contributed to the looting and terror that is known embedded up and down the Sword Coast. With this success, and from what I may acquire, besides what is to be granted in small percentage to the New Church first, the rest shall be given to you, The Tymount Ten of Tyr's Justice, so that you will become equipped and empowered for what will be your eventual return to your Home.

But until that time, you will train daily, and offer your newfound knowledge and higher morality to the balancing of peace and calm within this Refugee Camp, and keep your people's mood high, positive, and within Faith that all wrongs will be righted, as it is preached by the Church of the Just God."

And so Henryk of house Urde, knight-errant of the Swords of Holy Judgement, continued held fast to his promise as best he could, training and adventuring, to push for balance between those that have suffered from evil acts, and growth in goodness and faith through training and dedication.

((OOC: Approved by DM Golem))

IC: The Tymount Ten are taking shape. They are in effect receiving a concentrated course in swordsmanship and even the worst of them are significantly improved. Not all of them seem to be as keen on Tyrran faith, perhaps, but perhaps the seeds of justice are being planted.

The Tymount refugees are a community and generally not looking for permanent relocation that breaks up their community, and many have not given up the dream of returning home. However, the fact the mine is likely to be somewhat remote, and thus a similar life to that they knew, gets the company men a hearing. Five people seem interested in mining. Two of those have families, so it amounts to fifteen people in total. Of course, they need to hear more about specific proposals.

Of course, its clear that the reason many others reject it is the lack of desire to breakup the Tymount community. One of those interest suggests that taking something formal to the mayor and the people at large might help.

A couple of kids were following them around.

Image

Remmy returns with his men time and again. This time he starts talking to the five who seem interested in the mine work. He would encourage them to talk to others and start to help sway others to join them and the company.

Each time they come they would hand out more bread and coin to the refugees. Always trying to gather more to them for work in the Golden Arrow.

This time Remmy would keep an eye for the kids who followed them if he would see them he would have on him some sweet breads for them talking with them for a moment to see if they were orphans once he was satisfied only then finally moving on.
(((OOC: Approved by DM Golem)))

IC: The five are slowly swayed by gifts of food and coin. Eventually that five becomes seven; and the talk comes to when, and where, the work will be.

The kids, when asked if they were orphans, would spin a long story about having lost their parents to trolls! The girl would weep; the boy would console her. Its very tragic.

Rumor may pass through the Farmlands Camp, that after an attempt at a rousing speech to the Tymountians and the militia training under him, the knight-errant Henryk had left camp bearing north, along the Tradeway toward the lands called Thunder’s Ride...yet strangely, nay a day later, the knight-errant was seen again listlessly walking the Camp, as in a daze, or...simply looking for something he could not find, a Being he could not find?!?

It was an oddity to be sure, and some may conclude the rumor that one or another persons, perhaps it was one or few from the Tymount Ten, that confronted Henry’s in his malaise, and through direct interaction, sharing words on purpose, place and Faith, that the Crusader in Tyr’s Name, fully returned...to this Plane.

Whether this event would have future affect on his tutelaries or the refugees in relation to Henryk in general, into the Just Faith he proselytizes...would remain unknown....

(((OOC: Approved by DM Golem)))

IC: The Tymount Ten are rather concerned by the knight being in this state. If lessons resume, they are reassured, somewhat, but its clear they want to know what happened, and what Henryk can say about it.

As the scarcity of winter drew nearer, Zhentarim agents from Darkhold had arrived and erected several tents among the throng. Small teams of recruiting agents, answerable to the occasionally present Bueroza, advance the offer of an immediate escape for refugee men and women of fighting age: a 10 year contract with the Zhentilar proposes to station the applicants at Thargate Keep in the Moonsea - well out of harm's way, prospects are reminded, from the cruel events that ruined their livelihoods and threaten still their very souls.

((OOC: Approved by DM Golem))

IC: The intimidating presence of the Zhentarim agents is greeted warily by most of the refugees. The Ilmatari at least are polite but avoid them, while also warning the refugees about the nature of these recruiters.

The Tymount refugees seem unwilling to take up any such offers; the Zhentarim recruiting agents explaining to their master that Tymount's men of fighting age remain in the militia or have taken up work with House Darius.

However, the newer refugees seem more open to easy escape. Ten of those approach the recruiters....but in the end, after the speeches of paladins, Northern Watchmen and Ilmatari, only two end up signing any form of contact: a pair of young, rough looking brothers.
