Tenser's Floating Disk

Unread post by SyntheticRose »

This would be really nice to have! A non-combat "summon" that functions similarly to a pack horse, perhaps, but with the appropriate weight limit per caster level?

well as nice as it is (really is) it has a 3 ft lift limit and then its dispelled...

so only if you are to stay on the main trade ways should you not have issues with it dropping all of your stuff from being dispelled because it went too high off the ground :P

I don't think it's an issue but it's more a question of, do the devs want to code it to work as a pack horse? It would be interesting flavour but there's always some work to be done to make it function.

not sure how easy it would be to handle what happens when the disc expires. How much strain would there be to have all the stuff in the disc container drop on the ground?

Presumably, the same thing that happens when a packhorse dies can happen when the disk expires. You can't put anything more on it until you re-summon it, but when you re-summon it, it will have everything on it that it had when it expired, just like what happens when you buy a replacement pack horse.

Perhaps a material component might be fair, in line with Dimension Door's 200gp? It's not the 5000gp a horse costs, but you'd need to recast every rest (and sometimes every dispel), whereas buying a horse is something you can do once and, provided you keep it safe, theoretically last for a very long time.
