For reasons known to only a few, the upper room of Sorcerous Sundries has been barred to the public on two recent occasions. Behind closed doors, the Weave has been tapped and utilized to very thorough effect, the sounds of incantation coming muffled through the door with an air of confidence and mostly calm professionalism. However, at the climax of the second occasion all magical effects in the immediate vicinity positively blinked out of existence after two powerful pulses of arcane spellwork were cast...

It might be noted in bubbling rumor that a quiet temple in the eastern district gives welcome entry to a battered elven woman shortly after she and her cautious escort touched their tread onto the cobbles within the Gate. Clergy within grant a cloistered room for recovery and desperately needed rest.

Some time later, the area nearby experiences a nuanced shift in atmosphere; eyes seen and unseen alike change their direction toward the temple and keep a silent, strict watch on the site.

The Flaming Fist compound is a hive of activity, taking deliveries of grain, weapons, and the supplies necessary for war. Yet, what is planned is kept strictly under wraps.

Ever so briefly, a few tendrils of curling smoke might have been noted seeping out from the upper windows of Sorcerous Sundries last evening. What seems to have been a minor conflagration was accompanied also by another instance of magical effects in the vicinity fizzling curiously out of existence, and the smell of charred wood and scorching alchemical compounds lingered subtly in the air for the better part of the night.

A massive winged beast is seen flying over Baldur's Gate. The dark black creature opened its maw letting out a shattering roar followed by a fireball that enveloped two houses in the East District. The buildings were quickly put out by a group of adventurers and Flaming Fist Officers. Residents in the buildings were rescued by a brave few who stood against the flames. Survivors were rushed to the Ilmater shrine where the priests and priestesses tended to their burns. The creature was quickly deterred from the skys by flashing spells streaming across the night sky from the Flaming Fist Battle Casters. By the time the ballista's fired the beast had taken flight away from the city. Observations of the creature described a dark black beast in the night. Few details could be made out in the night sky, while others swear it had hallow white eyes.

The Flaming Fist is mobile and on high alert through the city that night and the following days after.

An announcement from the Palace.

The new post of Admiral, defender of trade, Pirate pursuer, and warden of the Coastal approaches was announced as filled by one Admiral Yossan Yongfall, formerly of Amn, and a renowned Captain.

What makes this unexpected announcement unusual is currently he does not appear to have been allocated any ships or crews. Busy bards conclude the City has felt the need to satisfy traders that action against Pirates and the risk of Pirates to the City is being taken seriously.

One or two more bards the worse for free City ale added that it may be there is some possibility the Admiral may be in charge of an elite flying fleet. However the Admiral's credentials are more seaworthy than those pundits.

A late night a couple of days ago in the Harbor District of Baldurs Gate, a window was opened in a house near the waterside almost thirty barrels was then thrown out of the window this was quickly followed by a loud explosion from within the house. Several people was then seen dimensional door out of a window from said house. The House itself seemed to be in pristine condition, murmurs spread telling the story of how it was warded against fire, and had been used as a lap for creating explosives. Not much was done from the side of the Fist that night, it can only be assumed that the people that got out was working for the Fist and that their report took care of most of it. The next day the barrels of explosives would be gone and a patrol of City Guards was seen investigate the place.

Following the bloody messages written across Baldur's Gate the following previous evening. Flaming Fist presence can be seen at its full might. Battle Casters and bowmen can be seen at the height of every tower.

In the night following the strange writings, odd red orbs have been reported around the city. The float effortlessly and seem to cause no harm at all, but their presence is nevertheless unsettling.

Citizens of Baldur's Gate would notice the presence of floating red orbs disappear in the night. By morning all of the orbs vanish. The streets are littered with what appears to be rose pedals. Upon closer inspection these pedals are dead red butterflies. Despite the last few nights of terror, the city of Baldur's Gate begins a sense of normalcy.

Duke Belt announces an upcoming festival to celebrate the recent victory over the immediate threats to the city. This festival will celebrate Bauldarun war heros and the victories of the past and present.

Early in the noon, the City of Baldur's Gate was enjoying a warm and pleasant day- one full of mercantile progression, new bonds being forged and overall happiness. The Wide has seen a large crowd gathering over the exceptionally good deals being given to buyers by the merchants.

...That changed when suddenly a sound of explosion tore through the air near the Sorcerous Sundries and smoke begain to rise. People entered into panic and started to run towards the other end of the street. Then another explosion happened- right at the end of the other side of the street. It's said that when a large crowd of people gathered from both sides, a third, even larger explosion happened and killed majority of those that survived the previous ones.

The carnage is said to have been quickly investigated by local adventurers and the flames that started to rage around few buildings were put down, however two sizeable houses were completely burned down to ash. It's rumoured that around one hundred people have died in those explosions- few survivors having been carried out to nearest temples and taken care of by the priests.

A good number of families are currently in mourning, having lost husbands, wives, parents or other family members. Tongues are wagging around the taverns and Inns that it was the fiends from Dragonspear Castle and, specifically, tieflings that were aiding them in creating the carnage.

The fiendblooded denizens, since now, are commonly avoided more than before- even though most people in Baldur's Gate are otherwise quite welcoming to people even of such descendance. After all, gold knows no major difference depending on race.

After several months' labor in the Palace District, foremen, teams of construction workers, and artisans gather their tools and vacate the areas that are no longer construction sites, but gleaming, manicured, and overhauled memorials of recent wars. The land beneath one in particular shows no further signs of barrenness, but a riot of grass and flowering trees now adorning the spot.

Rumours spread across taverns of Baldur's Gate that, supposedly, people have begun to disappear from villages in the Fields of the Dead and the Winding Way grasslands. Nobody is sure how and why- most assume it to be work of either bandits or the devils from Dragonspear Castle.

While those disappearances aren't numerous enough to paralyze the life of those villages, it's nonetheless concerning. Especially to the families whose relatives, brothers, sisters or parents have gone missing.

A Red Wizard by the name of Azymandeus is seen attending the Flaming Fist. After a discussion with Captain Norton, he leaves.

Thereafter the Flaming Fist conduct a sweep of the streets around the Lewd Lyre, using a badly behaved sniffer hound. This is a new innovation, and one that meets with mixed success, and so manpower has to supplement it until the Fist sweep is joined by the Red Wizard, who polymorphs into a wolf under Fist supervision, to help search and train the hound.

If asked, the Fist say they are sweeping for "alchemist explosives" in advance of the Masquerade tonight.

Word From the Front Lines

Image

Word arrives from the front lines against the forces of Hellsteel Tower to the north. Several Flaming Fist soldiers are carried back injured in carts and brought to the barracks where they are treated.

Soldiers report the presence of massive trolls, devils, and scattered goblinoids, marching from a massive encampment of devils and their forces to the north-east of the line of forts.

The war efforts are tireless with several casualties and heavy assaults on each of the Flaming Fist Forts on the Winding Water, but word is the front line is holding.

General Scar's fort has come under the heaviest attack, but the additional soldiers provided by the Ebon Blade, Northern Watch, as well as the additional "vagrants" have fortified and allowed the Fist efforts to push forward against the line. Special mention to a tiefling convict known only as "The horned head crusher" who saved a Flaming Fist soldier from the maw of a devil. This soldier says he owes this tiefling his life.

Image

News of the threat has spread to the city itself and Duke Eltan has dispatched freshly formed companies of Flaming Fist, composed of City Watch volunteers and retired soldiers returning to the colours, as reinforcements. With them march the Flaming Fist's heavy cavalry contingent.

With a potential invasion, the Lords Alliance has sent word to several cities both neighboring and distant. The word has not fallen on deaf ears. In the coming days Baldur's Gate has welcomed in several soldiers under the Unicorn banner. These soldiers carry silver weapons and fine blue and white cloaks.

Those familiar with the eastern region would recognize these soldiers easily as Iriaebor soldiers.

((Please disregard the Necromancy trolls. Those were misplaced spawns. The area does not have any caster trolls))
